Which 3 interventions to improve appearance?

Zooforhouse · 16/09/2021 22:04

If you could recommend only 3 things to improve appearance over time what would they be?

Mid 30’s, non sleeping child and feel old and haggard suddenly.

Creams, supplements, other?

Interested to know what has helped others!

Wow, so sad to see the number of answers saying Botox.

Exfoliate a couple of times a week
Night cream - doesn’t really matter which one
Healthy lifestyle

Really? How does sex improve your appearance?

Idyllic · 18/09/2021 21:20

Water - I drink 4 or 5 litres daily.
Sleep on a silk pillowcase
Fresh air every day - always use F50 though.

Other things -
Try to avoid processed foods
Good multivitamin / mineral supplement
Skincare routine with VitC serum in the morning, retinol at night.
Avoid stress where possible.

Botox
Microblading
A bit more botox

RiotAtTheRodeo · 18/09/2021 22:01

Teeth.

Get them straightened, get them whitened.

Claudia84 · 18/09/2021 22:04

Cheap list:
Spf
Tretinoin (okay well cheap..ish)
Water

Pricey list:
Botox
Microblading
Salon colour

Wintercoffee · 18/09/2021 22:07

A light weight face oil. I use Superdrug’s castor and sunflower oil, slather my hair, eyebrows, eyelashes in it for hair growth and find it really plumps up my skin without causing spots.

Good haircut

Vaseline rosy lips for healthy colour

Pinkspecs · 18/09/2021 22:29

Tinting eyebrows
Decent moisturiser
Body shop camomile cleanser

@Zooforhouse
Personally I wouldn’t go near Botox or any injectables.

I had a similar problem to you at a similar age but it was from chronic stress & insomnia. I looked like sh*t & put on weight too. Now some people have told me I look much better now & look ‘younger looking’ now. They were not saying that before! I went a long long time not getting a single compliment on my looks. It’s hard to know which thing worked but this is what I did:

  1. Took an expensive natural tonic I got in the health food store (ask the staff for the best one for you & your needs) for about 3 months. Money well spent.
  2. Hot cloth cleansing & facial oil every night for ages.
  3. Fresh air (it’s not just a myth).
  4. A dewy make-up foundation after a lovely drugstore anti wrinkle day moisturiser with SPF . This was actually a game changer. I smiled at myself in the mirror when I saw how much better I looked with this kind of make up on me.
  5. A haircut to make hair much shorter (if it’s past shoulder length now).
  6. A trip to the GP to sort out any health concerns that have been on the long finger & getting treatment for them.

Best of luck OP & remember ‘this too shall pass.’ X

You do not need Botox in your 30s!
You can’t inject away lack of decent sleep, nutrition and exercise.

Obviously try to get as much sleep as possible and getting fresh air and drinking enough as PPs have suggested.
My face looks better when my eyebrows are tidy (they don’t have to be perfect), mascara on (just cheap stuff or get them dyed) and a slight tan (I use moisturiser with tan in or you can get tinted foundation).

This is encouraging. Maybe it might work for a knackered 50 something too. (just about to get a CPap machine for the Apnea, working on other 2).

I'm in the same position as you, OP. Clearly more sleep will help but that isn't an option for me (or you by the sounds of it), so things I've tried:

  • Botox: didn't help me as it made my brows droop but looks great on others
  • Teeth whitening: instant 10 years off. Amazing but expensive.
  • Retinol: amazing results. I get prescription strength from Dermatica
  • Vit C Serum: skin is a LOT more glowy. I use Alumier but it was a gift and at £150 I'm not sure I'll be able to replace!!
  • HD brows: looked good but results only lasted a couple of weeks if that.
  • nails: looked lovely but I can't be doing with 2 week maintenance and I wanted to focus on my face

Just the one:
Smile more.

LightOfAThousandStars · 19/09/2021 12:36

Sleep
Drink more Water
Skincare (sorting out hormonal acne through the GP)

Gizmo98765 · 25/09/2021 17:40

Good haircut

Brow tidy

Good skincare regime especially moisturiser. I use Liz Earle now but used to use Clarins.

neverbeenbetter · 25/09/2021 18:09

Pinkspecs why tinting your eyebrows?

neverbeenbetter · 25/09/2021 18:11

Everyone says brows, why is that what does that do?

PermanentTemporary · 25/09/2021 18:21

Posture. Walking like a queen. A few yoga and core exercises a day would help with it.

Water
Regular basic moisturiser.

toolazytothinkofausername · 25/09/2021 18:30
  • Good mental health
  • Confidence- nothing is sexier
  • A good hair cut (and colour if needed, not for everyone as some people pull off white/grey very well).
