Dungarees: yes or no?

ShanghaiDiva · 12/09/2021 18:28

Alyson Walsh in the Saturday Telegraph is extolling the virtues of dungarees. So wise mumsnetters should I take the plunge?
Yes or don’t be ridiculous you will look like a toddler...
I am slightly younger than Alison and also have grey hair, if that makes a difference.

I have some with a

ineedsun · 12/09/2021 19:08

I’m 48, average height. Mid to high end BMI.

I have a couple of pairs, very comfy and always get compliments.

Mermaidpool · 12/09/2021 19:09

I'm mid 30s and have several pairs, so comfy I love mine

givinglessfucksdaily · 12/09/2021 19:31

Here are mine ! And I don't care what anyone thinks of them 55 getting fatter and I'll keep wearing them while I feel like it 😝

Dungarees: yes or no?

You look great!

You're not fat @givinglessfucksdaily. You look great. Where are the dungarees from?

givinglessfucksdaily · 12/09/2021 19:36

Thank you , they are from Amazon , I'm told look awful from behind , think saggy baggy
Had them over a year but will try and find a link !

CaddieDawg · 12/09/2021 19:38

I'm early 30s and have two sets so far. Very comfy and useful for chasing toddler around all day without worrying about showing too much cleavage when she grabs at my top or trousers sliding down etc. at baby classes or the park. Toddler unfortunately hates dungarees and just spends all day taking them back off again because the clasps are fun.

notacooldad · 12/09/2021 19:44

Wear what you want.
Personally I'd never be seen in them, they're not my taste.

YukoandHiro · 12/09/2021 19:45

Yea love my pair

othgraph · 12/09/2021 19:51

I changed my mind on them last year after getting a wyse pair. The toilet situation and looking like an overgrown toddler always put me off them but the toilet situation is fine as I can undo zip/buttons on one side and take it off without undoing the strap buckles. I have a couple of wyse ones now, madewell, sideline, pilcro and fat face. It's just so easy to style with a blouse or thin jumper and I'm at an age where I don't really care if people think I look ridiculous. If covid has taught me anything is that life is too short to give a shit what other people think. Just wear what makes you happy.

HungryHippo11 · 12/09/2021 19:53

I had seen a few friends wearing Lucy and Yak dungarees and thought they looked comfy and practical. Tried them on myself and they looked awful - really big and baggy, wide at the ankles and too high at the bust. Maybe if I got some proper fitted ones they would be OK but it put me off - they weren't cheap!

KirstenBlest · 12/09/2021 20:08

@HungryHippo11, the L&Y ones have different styles. I ordered a few pairs but kept one style. The others in the same size swamped me. The ones I kept are Lunas.

AWomanontheverge · 12/09/2021 20:11

I just googled Alyson Walsh, hadn't heard of her. She looks fantastic, love her style.

I love dungarees. Don't wear them myself as I carry my weight around my middle and have big boobs.

I would definitely give them a go OP.

@givinglessfucksdaily you look lovely

AlphabetAerobics · 12/09/2021 20:13

I’m nearly 50 and look like a fat toddler. Also made a delivery person hyperventilate with laughter when I got the strap stuck in the door handle and was left swinging like the aforementioned fat toddler.

Do not GAF.

TheHuntingoftheSnark · 12/09/2021 20:14

I like wearing them when working from home as they are cosy and comfortable. I like run and fly ones best.

givinglessfucksdaily · 12/09/2021 20:18

@AWomanontheverge you so could ! Now the fitting rooms are open go and grab some and try them on
Ladies .. as poster below said .. the last 18 months has taught us many things
Eat the cake ! Love how you wish to be loved and wear what you want !

Itmustbeaproblemwithyourdoodad · 12/09/2021 20:20

It’s a yes from me. I am mid thirties, medium height, fairly slim and I live in dungarees. Mainly lucy and yaks. I do get told quite a lot that I look like a cbeebies presenter. I take it as a compliment (whether it’s meant as one or not).

nordica · 12/09/2021 20:24

Late 30s, on the short side and size 12 and own several pairs. I don't care what anyone thinks, I love them.

TomorrowSomething · 12/09/2021 20:38

I'm on the lookout for a nice pair. Have tried a few Lucy and Yak pairs but I don't like the tie straps. I love their mini pinafore dresses too and would love to find similar with fixed straps or metal clasps.

I've heard that Fat Face is good?

KirstenBlest · 12/09/2021 20:42

The Fat Face Lewes ones are nice.

My denim ones are from Gap and H&M.

Bipbopbee · 12/09/2021 20:56

Yes! I have several dungarees and pinafore dresses from Lucy and Yaks in cord and denim. They are so comfy and easy to wear.
Don’t care what anyone else thinks to be honest. I’ve had lovely compliments on them so I guess some people must like them!
It’s not all looking like a toddler/CBeebies presenter.
And even if they do, is it really hurting anyone? Hmm
Run and Fly also do some nice dungarees and pinafore dresses in stretch twill and cord.

Lovemusic33 · 12/09/2021 21:01

I have roughly 10 pairs, run and fly cord dungarees being my favourite. I think some people suit them and some don’t.

stealingbeauty · 12/09/2021 21:11

I like dungarees on other people but they don’t suit me (unless I just haven’t found the right ones for me).
I prefer boilersuits though.

MrsMaizel · 12/09/2021 21:11

Wear what you like but they are like Popsy dresses - you either love them or hate them 😂 ....waiting to be crucified .....
