The denim workwear dress arrived along with the Mila dress. I had already tried the Mila on in a shop so knew what I was getting. I will keep the Mila: the size 12 that arrived seemed a bit more generous in the bust than the one that i tried on in store. I love the pattern on the fabric and it will look good dressed up or down.

I like the workwear denim dress: the 10 is plenty big enough and i did think about sizing down again (to the 8) but because of the cut on the waist and hem line - slightly curved in - it doesn't swamp but rather feels more relaxed. I may get it shortened a little as it is long. I need to try it on with the Solovairs to see where the hem line falls in relation to the top of the boots.

My heathery wool sweater in Cornflower has arrived and I am keeping it - a glorious blue colour , and the size S is fine for me ( I’m size 8 in most Toast clothes ). It is not as short as the photographs suggest.

ScottishMouse · 18/09/2021 18:07

I tried that in the brown colour @Gonegrey31. I loved the shape and fit, but I couldn’t get over the itchiness of the wool. I saw the blue in store yesterday, and was tempted to try again, as I think that is an even nicer colour, but I know I would never wear it if I had to always layer (I’m pretty warm blooded, or maybe it’s menopause!). I am going to wait for the Wool Cashmere sweater in Forest instead. It looks like a gorgeous shade of green, and I have this style from a previous season in orange and love it.

ScottishMouse · 18/09/2021 18:07

Would love to see photos of all the new purchases folks.

And, I'm back from Shepton Mallet... The welcoming drink thing was basically some paper cups, a bottle of fevertree tonic and a few apples, near the door of the full price bit. Wasn't offered to me, but then I didn't show signs of wanting to browse there - although it does look lovely. The "archive shop" is still a bit thin on stock, but the nice lady who was on the till said she was chasing that up with head office, and she hoped there'd be more soon (there are almost no jumpers or long sleeve t-s at the moment). There are still two rails for each size - smallest being 8/10 - which have some of last year's stock at sale prices - there just isn't an awful lot on each rail. However, there's also an extra coat rail, an extra velvet rail, an extra pyjamas rail, quite a lot of random footwear, and a samples and odds and sods rail. Which is where the real bargains are! I've now got a pair of sample skinny jeans (in size 18 - whoever makes samples in that size?) and an oversized wool blazer - £100 for both. There are also scarves, occasional bags and so on - I have my eye on a kate spade leather backpack which is reduced, but still pricey. It sounds as if they're hanging on to see what happens with the rest of the shopping complex, and getting by sales from their regulars (like me). So, probably not worth making a special visit, but if you're in the vicinity definitely worth popping by.

faustina · 18/09/2021 21:09

I'd also love to see pics - and thank you @Snailhaterz2 - a very helpful report - I like the sound of the random samples and odds and sods rail!

I've found an eBay shop which sells samples and sale things from the
Kin range at very reasonable prices, and if you watch something they send you an offer for even more reasonable prices! Happy to send a link to anyone who's a regular on this thread if they want to message me.

Evening Toasties,
I'm eyeing up the denim wrap skirt. Has anyone bought one/tried it on?
If so- what did you think of it and what is fit like?
Any opinions would be gratefully received.

I tried on both 10 and 12 in the toast shop. The 12 was very big 14/16 and so I sized down to a 10. I have a smallish waist but bum/ hips and always wear a RL 12 - it fits like a glove.
Theteapotsbrokenspout · 18/09/2021 21:53

@Stoic123. My denim wrap skirt arrived today, I would say it’s more or less true to size. I’m a 12 and the 12 on me is slightly too big but not enough to size down, also I’ve just realised I can move the buttons over a cm or 2 to make it fit perfectly.
It’s a lovely weight of denim, I think it’s a good purchase.

Saurus72 · 18/09/2021 21:55

@Stoic123 Hi, yes I have the denim wrap skirt, I bought it a few weeks ago but haven’t worn it yet as I’m seeing it as an Autumn piece. I’m a real life size 14 hourglass, buy most of my Toast dresses in size 12 and don’t usually buy Toast skirts because I find them too tight on the waist or otherwise too voluminous. The denim wrap skirt is a really good fit for me in size 14, it is roomy on the hips (and I have hips 🙄) but I think it fits well and is flattering. Not sure if you have any other denim from Toast but if so, you’ll already know what amazing quality it is. I’m still wfh, and expect to be doing so most of the time for the foreseeable so I’m anticipating wearing it for that during AW with a jumper (and the Falke merino tights I’m planning to buy…). Hope that helps!

ScottishMouse · 18/09/2021 22:04

@Stoic123, just to give a different opinion on the wrap skirt… I have no hips to speak of, but also no waist. And I found the wrap skirt didn’t work for me. The waist was too tight to close on the size 8 (I’m an 8 in Toast elasticated waist bottoms), but there was too much fabric on the hips of the size 10. I thought about moving the button on the 8, but it would not have worked because the seam that goes around the hips would no longer have lined up as it is at an angle.
But, all that said, it is really beautiful, the denim is perfect, and it would be such a useful piece. I hope it works for you.

Stoic123 · 18/09/2021 22:06

Thank you for all the info!

I have a denim dress from Toast and it's fab. Think the skirt might be really useful.

Stoic123 · 18/09/2021 22:09

@ScottishMouse- I'm hourglass so hoping works out like @Saurus72

Might take a trip out to a shop to try on.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 18/09/2021 22:11

@ScottishMouse I hadn’t looked at the seam for moving the button - do you think I will have a problem if I’m making it slightly tighter?

ScottishMouse · 18/09/2021 22:24

@Theteapotsbrokenspout, I honestly can’t remember exactly what it was like. I was wanting to make it looser, and probably by about an inch, so you might be fine going the other way. It could also just be that I am super fussy about such things!

ScottishMouse · 18/09/2021 22:24

@Stoic123, in that case it will probably be fabulous on you!

ScottishMouse · 18/09/2021 22:31

I’ve not been having much luck at all lately with my Toast orders. I have sent back everything I have ordered recently for one reason or another. I am trying to only keep things that are really perfect or better than other items in my wardrobe of a similar type. So if the colour isn’t right, or the length is a bit off, or if I think I won’t wear it enough, back it goes. It is good for my bank balance but I’d really like a perfect purchase. I’m holding out for the Forest coloured Wool Cashmere sweater and also the eye wateringly expensive Indigo Wool Cotton jacket that appeared in the recent catalogue (which it says is coming in October). I’d like a new pair of trousers that are warmer than the linen cotton Alix I’ve been in all summer. Has anyone seen or bought the Gabi cords in concrete? Just wondering if it’s a ridiculously impractical colour and they will end up in the washing machine more than on my body.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 18/09/2021 22:33

Thank you @ScottishMouse I’ll have a good look before I start moving the buttons, I could wear it as it is but I’d just prefer it slightly tighter.

TempleofZoom · 19/09/2021 10:30

Nice pic of the needlecord dress on Insta.
Im going to try it on so will report back.

MrsCat1 · 19/09/2021 12:32

I've been considering that needle cord dress as well @TempleofZoom so will be interested to see what you think. I have a similar model from a couple of years ago that I love - very cosy and wearable.

I haven't had much Toast luck either recently after I sent back the Harlequin dress that looks lovely on @Saurus72 However I did order and actually keep the olive green dart trousers which are great (although slightly shorter than I would like - I'm tallish). They are relatively high waisted and very comfy. I was actually in a Toast shop when they were unpacking the latest stuff and I saw the new deep blue lace sweater which looked gorgeous - someone on this thread has ordered it so I think they will be pleased.

Gonegrey31 · 19/09/2021 14:15

Snailhaterz2 thank you so much for the feedback on the Shepton Mallet store! I have often thought of making a detour to visit it when visiting family in Somerset. Will definitely have to go one of these days.

ScottishMouse · 19/09/2021 15:02

All this chat about the denim workwear dress had me scrolling back through the thread looking for your photo @faustina. I would love a new Toast denim dress, had one years ago but it is much too small now. I was put off the workwear one when it came online because of the neckline. I hate anything that might show cleavage at all.
Those of you that have it, did you size down (once? twice?)? And how low is the neck? Thanks!

ScottishMouse · 19/09/2021 15:03

Oh and how tall are you @faustina? Online reviews suggest it might be too long on me (5 foot 2).

AuldFox · 19/09/2021 15:36

@Snailhaterz2 thanks very much for your report! I think I’ll have to wait until they become a proper archive store, as the stock right now seems very limited (they don’t seem to have size 6 or any jumpers, both of which I need). I can’t see the store surviving at all, unless it becomes more of a destination for committed Toasties.

If you notice an uptick in stock levels when you next visit, please let us know!

faustina · 19/09/2021 15:59

@ScottishMouse - I'm 5'4 and I think the length is perfect for me. I returned a Kin denim dress which I loved in every way except it was too short - you might want to have a look at it if you're after something a bit shorter? It's really nice. I think I posted some pics of it on this thread:

kin dress

as for cleavage on the Toast dress, it stops just short of showing any on me
