I wore my jerkin with the denim wrap skirt and a long sleeved tee on Monday, it worked really well for me. I shall probably wear it with the crinkled check dress this weekend. I haven’t tried it over a long shirt yet.

ilovecherries · 22/10/2021 18:35

I kept mine, Laska. (Blue small) although I would have had the medium had it been available. I didn’t wear it straight away as I was hanging onto it in case a medium came back in and I wanted to send it back. In the last three weeks or so since I started to wear it, I’ve worn it 6 times.

Laska2Meryls · 22/10/2021 20:00

I really needed the L ( feel like a bit of a heffalump 😞) but I have wide shoulders...

Laska2Meryls · 22/10/2021 20:02

And norks ( too big 😞)

StarShapedWindow · 23/10/2021 12:20

Laska please don’t feel like a heffalump - I often need a L or an S and am what anyone in real life would consider M- they’re sizing is odd.

I have enjoyed reading through this thread so much, I love seeing the clothes on actual people rather than the very stylised images on the website. Do any of you enjoy Brora clothing? I have a just bought a beautiful skirt that’s perfect for autumn and winter.

The infamous jerkin. Worn today with very old Alix trousers and a Uniqlo merino jumper. And a totally tasteless brooch which I love but will probably get me kicked out of S&B, never mind this thread Grin

Oh, that’s a lovely skirt, star. I have some Brora knitwear but have never tried anything else from there.

Channelling Lady Hale ( which is a good thing)
ilovecherries · 23/10/2021 16:54

I couldn’t do a Lady Hale spider though - I feel a bit anxious even looking at it. I have a box of costume brooches, some from my MIL and some that mum gave me when we were clearing stuff out. I’ve never worn brooches before but I’m going to try and incorporate them now and then. (Says the person who though a bunch of mushrooms was a huge glittery brooch!)

iguanadonna · 24/10/2021 14:03

That Brora clothing looks great, especially the knitwear. Does the quality justify the price?

On that, I popped into a Noa Noa shop this week because I keep getting adverts for their clothes on fb and wanted to try some. Was quite surprised by how poor the quality felt. They're pretty expensive - not as much as Toast but getting into that bracket. But the fabrics were not in the same league.

Made me feel a bit better about paying for Toast jumpers.

ScottishMouse · 24/10/2021 14:18

Noa Noa used to be great back in the day. I haven’t seen their stuff in years, but it sounds like it is going the same way as so many brands, using cheaper and cheaper fabrics. It is so annoying. Even h&m, where I used to get great 100% cotton joggers for my ds have now started making them with polyester added and they look terrible after one wash. He doesn’t care, but it just makes me annoyed. There are so many places I used to shop that I just won’t anymore.

Sooverthemill · 25/10/2021 10:39

@ilovecherries

What do we think about double corduroy? I’m finding myself weirdly drawn to the full on cord trouser and jacket look. Then my mum just reminded me that we shared a purple iteration of this get up in 1973. The hem on the trousers were constantly up and down depending on which one was wearing it.
Funnily enough @ilovecherries I have just bought a corduroy 'suit'! It's from Grace and Mila and it's lovely. I don't know if will actually wear both pieces together but I really love it and had so many compliments on the jacket ( shirt?) which I've worn a few times . I need to get the trousers taken up sadly. I do not need anyone to point out to me that I will look nothing like the model ( except in my head)

French link here but I got trousers from TAE boutique and the jacket from Attic boutique ( couldn't get right sizes in one go)

Oh and about 15 years ago I had a fabulous sage green needle cord suit from jigsaw which I wore to work and absolutely loved.

faustina · 25/10/2021 14:04

@Sooverthemill - I like the colour of that cord very much - also very reasonably priced!

@ilovecherries - forgot to mention, I saw the Toast jacket in John Lewis on Saturday and had a proper look at it for you - not shiny in the slightest!

Countmeout · 25/10/2021 17:41

Sorry just checking in. Won’t have time to read much. Still no internet or sky or even a blooming ordinary plug in the wall telephone . Feel I’m living in 1960.
Pulled out this lilac shirt from past season worn with Gabis from past as well.
Hope not to lose you when the thread ends. Pity you can’t download mumsnet just to read

Saurus72 · 25/10/2021 18:08

@Countmeout Ah, that’s what that shirt looks like when it fits properly, it’s lovely! I bought it in the January sales from JL and it’s just not a good fit, overall too big. Planning to swap in Toast Circle. Are you finding no interweb at all positive (eg reading books) or is it all a massive PITA?

faustina · 25/10/2021 18:22

@Countmeout - couldn't you download the app for your phone and read it on there?

StarShapedWindow · 25/10/2021 18:50

I love the idea of using brooches - my Great Aunty (who was very chic and an understudy for Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra) used to wear them on her winter hats and they always looked so sparkly in the winter.

The quality of Brora is fantastic. I used to love Noa Noa but the quality has got worse over the last 10 years. It used to be worth the money because it was a style of its own and the quality was good - I’ve got ribbed vests from there that are at least 10 and still look like new.

This shop is fab IMO

StarShapedWindow · 25/10/2021 19:18

Also I bought this in M&S - I think the colours are gorgeous and it’s very soft - not as lovely as cashmere but I think the colours make up for it!

Not the ‘red mix’ but the ‘green mix’.

StarShapedWindow · 25/10/2021 19:37

This is similar to the Toast jerkin - blues not reds but price is fab.

Just got an order in the post of some lovely things. I’m keeping the Lofty Alpaca Cable Cardigan and the Washed Wool Sweater in honey. They are both so great. The washed wool sweater is quite light for winter but is nice and boxy so will fit layers underneath. The shape is fab - high neck, batwing type sleeves but it tapers in towards the bottom unlike some of the other current styles. The cardigan is so soft and cosy, it is quite short and doesn’t meet at the front, almost like an oversized bolero, but the sleeves are chunky and loose-ish. I’m not much of a cardigan wearer, so unsure what to style underneath it, but I am definitely keeping.
I also tried the new Indigo Wool Cotton Jacket, but it was too swingy a shape for me. The fabric is beautiful but it would have had to be completely perfect at that price.
I also popped a couple of lovely Christmas baubles in my bag. First Christmas purchase!

ScottishMouse · 26/10/2021 14:34

I also see there is another Instagram styling video coming at 5pm today.

Mariclaire82 · 26/10/2021 19:47

Exciting! Is the video up on the site? I couldn’t find it out, but struggled to track the autumn one down last time too!

faustina · 26/10/2021 19:49

I think the link is under 'events' at the top of the page
