Hello,

I'm hoping you wonderful mumsnettets can help me. I have just been given a date for my sons First Holy Communion. It's in 3 weeks... Yikes. My favourite colour is green and it suits me so would love a dress in that colour.

I'm 5ft 4 and a size 12,big bust so need a V neck or of the shoulder. I love wrap dresses as they suit me. Jumpsuits so long as they are made well. Skater styles or anything to busy is a no.

Please help me find something.

It's not ignorant to speak from experience though? That's all people are doing and if your experience is different then that's cool, nobody is having a go at you! All churches are different and people are speaking about the (dozens or more) they've been in personally, not your one. Irish Catholic too here. I'm not sure why you're getting so defensive - you've said it's not an issue in the church you attend now and you've mentioned the 'big fat gypsy wedding' thing which is obviously different to more conservative Catholic Churches - people couldnt have known that from your first post. Chill out and enjoy the day!

MyfanwyMontez · 03/09/2021 21:53

OP

Try Pretty Kitty. They have lots of green dresses that might suit. Just type in Pretty Kitty green dress . I’m sorry, I can’t post links.

Ellarain · 03/09/2021 21:54

Not defensive at all. Big fat gypsy wedding is in all Irish Catholic Churches. No such thing as Conservative Catholic Churches lol. Everybody welcome. Hush now.

"Hush now"? I mean, I'm out because you're being strangely defensive and rude but just FYI speaking to other adults like that is really weird!

There absolutely are conservative Irish Catholic Churches because I grew up in them 😂

As I said, I would wear whatever I wanted because I don't believe in dictating to women what they 'should' wear, I was just sharing my experience as did another poster.

Enjoy the day regardless.

Ellarain · 03/09/2021 22:00

Just to clarify, there is no dress code in an Irish Catholic Church. Anybody who thinks there is is not Irish and doesn't attend Church. I'm actually laughing at those who said you can't show any shoulder. What century are you living in??? I'm an active member of my Church and we welcome everyone. End of. Some people just love an argument even though they have no idea, education or experience.

Nobody and I repeat nobody has ever been turned away from the Catholic Church in Ireland for how they dress. It's people like you who give this religion a bad name. Ireland is one of the most Liberal, countries in the world.

There is no dress code at all. But respectful is expected.
Some priests are a little more fuddy duddy than others. But they are not able to exercise their opinions on clothing.

So OP unless you dress like a complete whore with tits and arse hanging out, you’ll be just fine at the Catholic Church. Grin
I think the recommendations here are lovely.

Ellarain · 03/09/2021 22:08

@PickleSarnie,oh I love it, stunning.

I didn't say you'd be turned away, I said what my experience was as did a couple of other posters and even said I haven't been to church for 15 years. Calm down, enjoy the day and don't get so angry with strangers who are just sharing their experience that's different to yours even if they're from the same background! It's a celebration, you seem to be spoiling for a row which is strange. Enjoy it there are some lovely suggestions on this thread. Maybe focus on them instead of being combative with people Smile
youvegottenminuteslynn · 03/09/2021 22:13

Oh and don't worry I don't give the religion a bad name as I'm not religious, I just grew up in an Irish Catholic family and churches. You're free of the likes of me now!

Ellarain · 03/09/2021 22:15
