How old do you think I look?

I live abroad and have aged a bit over the last two/three years. Always looked really young for my age when I lived in the U.K., but have started to notice how I'm ageing a lot more around my eyes and 11 lines. DP thinks I have dysmorphia and it's all in my mind. I feel like I'm ready for a bit of Botox, as I've been feeling a lot less confident about my appearance. To settle the argument, please tell me how old you think I am. Both pics are without filter and one with just mascara, a bit of concealer to hide the dark shadows and eyebrow pencil. The bathroom one is before I had a shower, with just eyebrow pencil.

Agree with others that you look around your age. You might want to consider a fringe as you have quite a high forehead or possibly receeding hairline? Not sure if you've noticed that with age or whether it's your usual face shape. Usually receeding affects men but I've cut fringes on women with high foreheads with good results for making them feel they look younger. Your skin is very good.

First pic anything from 35 to 45 Second pic 45 to 50.

Definite no to Botox though.

IridescentPurple · 04/09/2021 03:56

I never understand people who do this though - you must have the skin of a rhinoceros!

Nor me. I'm 65 but friends say I don't look a day over 50. I believe them. No need to put it to the Mumsnet test

My neighbour is the same age as me, and she gets Botox. It has rendered her expressionless. Happy or sad, bored or enthused, her face never moves. She just looks slightly odd

I believe you can buy Tretinoin (Rein-A) Cream over the counter in Spain. It is the only topical cream medically-proven to be antiaging. I have been using it for years. Am 49 and (very obviously pissing myself laughing in this photo) untouched by injectables. I live in a hot part of Australia, too. Have been a sunscreen zealot since my teens as well. (Sun dodger as much as possible, tbh.) If you do decide to try Tretinoin, you need to ease it gently into your skincare routine to avoid irritation. I only use it on my face - can’t on my neck and chest. Going to try a retinol there. You must always use sunscreen with it.

I once spoke to a young woman who was doing a beauty type course . There are some creams ( read the small print ) which claim to aim to reduce the appliance of wrinkles. But it is the appearance . Apart from Botox ( which I cannot see you need ) she said the only real things you can do are 1) stay out of the sun or put high factor suncream on ) 2) drink less alcohol - very drying ) and 3) drink as much water as you can

I think if you are 42 you look great for your age. It is only my opinion I think looking great for your age is perfect.

I give you Joanna Lumley - she doesn't look 21 or 31 but she looks absolutely fabulous for her age ( do you see what I did there ) Grin

You look your age. Nothing wrong with that, most people do. If you have Botox it may hide some fine lines and wrinkles but you would still look your age - looking 43 when you are 43 or looking 58 when you are 58 is really nothing to worry about. I really don't get the obsession with wanting to be told you look 25 when you are in your 40's.

Benjispruce5 · 04/09/2021 21:40

Young. No lines. In 30s.

I haven't read all the comments, just looked to see how old you actually are! My guess was 35. You look great, really good skin. Yes, you will notice changes as you get older because it happens to everyone and it can be difficult to come to terms with ageing, but you are ageing beautifully! I can't see where botox would be useful because you really don't have any lines.

Late 30s. But I'm guessing you're actually early 40s. You look great tbh.

dontgobaconmyheart · 07/09/2021 12:49

You look your age I think, and there isn't anything wrong with that. I'd have guessed mid forties. The age you look doesn't necessarily correlate to how attractive a given person is or isn't and we couldn't and should expect or aspire to look like we are approaching our 30's well into our 40/50/60's- not least because it isn't possible, not really.

I think it's likely to be more helpful to read up on the pervasive nature of misogyny and expectations on women to exist to look 'good' , for whom, and why that is. Womens value is so much more than whether they're able to hold on to a youthful appearance that realistically should only be a small window of ones life.

You look lovely OP and have lovely skin, I can't see anything that would warrant a preoccupation with your looks as an issue to be fixed.
