Shopping in the trendy shops with my dd yesterday was like stepping back to 1997!

Low rise bootlegs, belt chains, kickers jumpers, combat trousers, mesh tops, triangle tops(can't think of the name)

Wow, felt like I was a teenager again and in a time warp. Looks like 90s fashion is well and truly back!!

And bucket hats!!

I've certainly had several timewarp moments walking around town recently. Even saw an older teen boy with "curtains" yesterday and felt a massive pang for my late childhood/early teenagehood

My DS is currently rocking curtains. They’re very ‘in’ he says. I just keep singing Mysterious Girl at him Grin.

He also treasures his bucket hat.

MirandaWest · 24/08/2021 09:56

I’m finding it quite weird - think it’s the first time clothes I used to wear as a teenager have come back into fashion.

Dogoodfeelgood · 24/08/2021 09:59

I noticed this in London too! I was thinking it’s almost into 00’s? Very Christina Aguilera vibes. I kind of love it as it’s a nice change from the perfect Instagram youth to see them looking grungy and making the outrageous style mistakes of our youth. But it makes me feel so old in my silk blouses 😂

Floisme · 24/08/2021 09:59

Welcome to my world.

If I remember correctly, most 90s fashions were nicked from the 70s.

Canigooutyet · 24/08/2021 10:03

A lot of the 90's look came from the 60's and 70's.

Looks like I'm going to get my hair redone. Had the curtains for a few years now. Got it done as had loads of themed parties and so it was easier.

Wonder when cowboy boots will come back. Have some old ones that are really comfy and will be annoyed if they make a come back.

evtheria · 24/08/2021 10:03

This has been trendy for a while now but: big, baggy t-shirts with cycle shorts and sporty running shoes plus sport socks. Exactly what I wore in Year 6 and now commonly seen in Manchester’s trendy Ancoats...
I love it!

evtheria · 24/08/2021 10:05

PS: I love triangle tops, especially the chainmail ones Blush Just makes me think of Aaliyah.

Badabingbadabum · 24/08/2021 10:06

I read kickers jumpers as knicker jumpers and thought, "I can't remember those"!

I should have kept my Pod shoes and various Nike coats! No one would want the floor length baggy jeans though that soaked up rain water and whatever else was on the pavements.

Amrythings · 24/08/2021 10:47

DSD bought a pair of Bay Trading polyester bootcut trousers that I owned in 1999 on eBay. She's also taken to dressing like Kate Moss at a mid 90s glam party as her everyday.

I wish my father were still alive, he got enough milage out of us wearing this stuff, he'd be having a field day (he got years of entertainment out of her furry fleece phase).

malificent7 · 24/08/2021 10:49

Recently i bought a bucket hat, tie dye dress and shorts from the high street...pretty much what i wore in the 90s! Im 43! Blush.

MedusasBadHairDay · 24/08/2021 10:50

Took DD clothes shopping and she bought an outfit identical to one I wore in the 90s, it's a bit weird.

Cam2020 · 24/08/2021 10:53

Love this! I've noticed this for a few years, starting with bomber jackets and flowery dresses!

RacheyCat · 24/08/2021 13:21

I love it just as much now as I did as a teenager! It really makes me catch my breath, you know? It's so, so similar. The clothes look just like replicas. It's disorientating and somehow moving.

I just wish I needed all those slip dresses.

SirenSays · 24/08/2021 13:54

I hate almost everything about 90s fashion and feel like by the time I don't find it so hideous, it will be going out of fashion! Bucket hats are the worst of the worst. Oh when will this trend go away 😭

Floisme · 24/08/2021 13:57

I don't love it - I was bored with it the last time around.

Fashion really pisses me off sometimes. They've got the whole of history and pretty much every culture on the planet at their fingertips and what do they do? Rehash a look from 25 years ago which was already rehashed to begin with.

Lazy fuckers.

poppym12 · 24/08/2021 14:12

My bucket hat phase never went away as they're the only hats that have ever fitted me (ridiculously large head). I couldn't give a monkey's if they're 'in' or not.

Bbq1 · 24/08/2021 14:18

Funnily enough I noticed a girl last week wearing a t shirt under a slip dress and she had her hair in messy bins at the back of her head and I thought "How 90's". I didn't realise that it was actually a thing though.

Bbq1 · 24/08/2021 14:18

Buns

JustWhatIAlwaysWanted · 24/08/2021 14:22

Were those tops called handkerchief tops?

ConfusedParticle · 24/08/2021 14:23

this has been going on for years, although I noticed it more in nordic countries initially, seemed to take a bit of a while to hit the pedestrian high street here.

I'm perpetually intrigued lately at how MN seems really hyper focused on school aged trends Grin

ComTruise · 24/08/2021 14:28

If you wore it the first time round, don't wear it the second Wink

Yeah another so-called rule that only someone who thought they'd be dead by 50 could come up with Grin
