Shopping in the trendy shops with my dd yesterday was like stepping back to 1997!

Low rise bootlegs, belt chains, kickers jumpers, combat trousers, mesh tops, triangle tops(can't think of the name)

Wow, felt like I was a teenager again and in a time warp. Looks like 90s fashion is well and truly back!!

If you wore it the first time round, don't wear it the second wink

Why not if it still fits Grin

SquirryTheSquirrel · 24/08/2021 16:29

Does this mean we have seen the back of beards? No one 'trendy' had a beard in those days.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 24/08/2021 16:29

Sounds wonderful! Though stay clear of those neon or electric blue satin shirts.

Will sideburns be back?
TotheletterofthelawTHELETTER · 24/08/2021 16:32

My 11yr old DD is desperate to have a bucket hat!
She also has a checky outfit like Cher from Clueless but when I said that I got an eye roll and a “what’s Clueless?” Confused

JuneOsborne · 24/08/2021 16:33

Ha, my dsis said to me the other day, 'that's the second time I've seen someone dressed straight out of the 90s. The first time I thought it was fancy dress, but now, I'm not so sure.'

Made me chuckle. I said, don't you remember mom telling us that flares aren't new? That she wore them in the 70s.

My sister said (were in our 40s) that we're not old enough to see a fashion come back in. I said, yep, that's what mom said to us too!

Then she said, I wish I'd have kept all my old clothes, could have got them out and rocked them and been bang on trend. Yep, I said. That's what mom said too.

I wish I could tell my mom! She'd have loved it.

goose1964 · 24/08/2021 16:34

I was shopping the other day and I noticed a lot of 70s style stuff, I nearly bought a pale blue and white swirly skirt but it was about an inch too short

paxman · 24/08/2021 16:37

If it means the end of shapeless, huge bland dresses then it’s good news.

user1471530109 · 24/08/2021 16:39

We've just got back from shopping (11yr old dd) and there were loads of mini kilts. She was Hmm when I said it was nearly identical to what I wore early 90s. She didn't buy one after that Grin. She also loved a tank top until I said I had had one of those too!

Floisme · 24/08/2021 17:25

When I first got into second hand clothes in the 70s - and was of course convinced no-one had ever come up with the idea before - I used to show my mum my latest 1940s purchases, and she'd say plaintively, 'I used to have a dress just like that.'

How I laughed. But the laugh was on me.

sashh · 24/08/2021 17:31

Bollocks to that, I still wear my DMs and I loved the girly dress and boots look.

I'm almost 55, I don't care.

newnortherner111 · 24/08/2021 18:53

Was the musical soundtrack in the shops Oasis and Blur?

SquirryTheSquirrel · 24/08/2021 19:04

I would congratulate myself on keeping many of mine ... except I can't fit into them. I had a 26 inch waist in those days ...

My SIL was a primary school teacher, and when they had a 60's day she wore some of her old clobber. The kids thought she was bang up to date!
ItsSunnyOutside · 24/08/2021 19:41

The 90s/early noughties trend has been seeping in for a few years now but it is in full force now!
It's very nostaglic isn't it! I remember being in high school and all the popular lads had the curtain hairstyle, which I am seeing on young lads again now.

The only thing I haven't seen much of, is pedal pushers. Did anyone else used to wear these? I used to wear mine with a little cropped boob tube!

TheCuttySharp · 24/08/2021 19:41

My daughter is 12 and just had a shaggy mullet cut and is requesting flares Shock

JMAngel1 · 24/08/2021 20:58

Is it wrong that I quite like it?
Problem is I can picture myself wearing handkerchief tops and low rise bootcut flare jeans but in my head I’m still 22 (not sure my 49 year old face would go with it Grin)
I do love a bias cut slip dress through.

Bubbles2456 · 24/08/2021 21:10

@Dogoodfeelgood

I noticed this in London too! I was thinking it’s almost into 00’s? Very Christina Aguilera vibes. I kind of love it as it’s a nice change from the perfect Instagram youth to see them looking grungy and making the outrageous style mistakes of our youth. But it makes me feel so old in my silk blouses 😂
Yes I agree definitely takes it into the early 2000s too. Some 90s, some 00s

Yep, I did a double take driving through Hammersmith the other day - I shouted to DD - look this girl looks like she’s from the 90’s! Hmm
She had a crop top and those shell tracksuit bottoms. And a tiny bag! Shock

DD hadn’t a foggiest what I was on about!

NapoleonOzmolysis · 24/08/2021 21:19

My friend recently sent me a picture of her teenage DD's new haircut and new glasses. I was able to send back a photo of my friend in 1993 with the same haircut and glasses Grin

Griefmonster · 24/08/2021 21:25

I almost bought myself a fila tracksuit a while back because we could afford one when I was young in the mid/late 80s.

It's so wierd isn't it. This is the first city I've been since pre covid which is why I was so taken back. It hasn't hit where I live yet!

Does anyone know where I can get some patchwork jeans/flares for my dd birthday? She's 11, 5ft and size 8?
