Which rain jacket is the best for me

Beachhutsandsand · 20/08/2021 08:45

Currently looking for a cool and funky raincoat for a school run etc.
I am looking on these ones but not sure which one looks the one.
Budget £35 max.
I’m 49 but young in the heart and head.
I don’t want a jacket for 80 years old lady as some jackets can make you look like that.
I’m intrigued by the pink one for now..but feel free to tell me which looks good.

Oh yes the pink 1 is nice. Can I ask where you found them I'm desperate for. A new jacket but don't want to .spend a lot

therearenogoodusernamesleft · 20/08/2021 08:47

I would look for a khaki option or navy - pastels are a little bit old lady, sorry Thanks

Mrsjayy · 20/08/2021 08:50

See I would see khaki as "old lady" my 20 something DD wears pastel. Not that I think it matters a rain jacket is a rain jacket.

Beachhutsandsand · 20/08/2021 08:59

@Mrsjayy the green one actually nice as the hood is spotty and I think khaki is cool, but it’s not a proper waterproof coat, it’s more like utility jacket.

The pink one is from Sainsbury’s.
I kept staring on it waiting for people reviews on its website for weeks.
Most people who bought it 65 years plus lol.
But the coat does look nice, I like the blocks.

I would keep looking. My nan wears one very similar and I don't think it's flattering

Beachhutsandsand · 20/08/2021 09:03

@therearenogoodusernamesleft
I had navy Joules one for a day and returned it as it made me feel old.
I like colour full clothing.
The green khaki is lovely, has spotty hood when looked closer, it’s more like utility jacket, not really raincoat as not waterproof, but it caught my eye. I saw it yesterday in my local Sainsbury’s.

I'm sorry but none of those are cool and funky but look old.
I realise that's not helpful as I have no other suggestions but the cut of those just aren't right IMO

Beachhutsandsand · 20/08/2021 09:06

@ShuddaBeenMe yep, all older ladies wearing these coats.
I was yesterday in the town, and all were wearing - even some really bright colours like orange one or bright aqua colour.

I'm 42, not high fashion but consider myself to have a foot in the fashion door when needs be. The pink one very much reminds me of a shell suit jacket, which may be trendy if you're young but if you're old enough to remember them the first time then I think you're in dangerous territory.
I'm not a lover of any but the best one is the last one (no4).

BusterGonad · 20/08/2021 09:19

What I mean is, when I go out etc I can look quite nice and get compliments so I'm not totally out of touch! 😂 I'm by no means a fashionista and would never claim to be! 🤣

LawnFever · 20/08/2021 09:22

I don’t think any rain coat is going to be particularly stylish and funky! I like the pink one best out of these ones.

Oo thank you,. We need functional clothes sometimes who cares if a 65 year old bought it if it keep you dry and you like it...

grannycake · 20/08/2021 09:31

Can a 65 year old woman not buy fashioable clothes? Why do we always have the assumption on mumsnet that old means frumpy. Ageism again

Beachhutsandsand · 20/08/2021 09:38

@grannycake
Of course they can and I’m all for them.
My mum is 70 and she wears jeans jackets etc. I don’t think she would wear any of these ones above tbh as she would think they are still too old for her. But then she has not long walk to school so she does not need one anyway.

Only I know from my area where I live lots of elderly residents including my DHs Nan (94 years old) wears jackets very similar to these.

Squiz81 · 20/08/2021 09:43

I don’t particularly like any of them. Have you looked in H&M they usually have raincoats within that budget.

Beachhutsandsand · 20/08/2021 09:46

@BusterGonad
You are right about the shell jacket.
I never had any when I was young, but I could not put a finger on whet it remind me - that stripes shape.
Now I know.
This put me of really now of it.
Also it reminds me a bit of a skiing jacket, I remember from when I was kid, my friends had one like that.

I’d look at the Rains brand

mewkins · 20/08/2021 10:12

Asos or h and m should have more fashionable ones. I would steer clear of pastels or weird green and go for black or animal print or bright red or yellow.

goose1964 · 20/08/2021 10:21

I like this, it's a gorgeous colour www.gooutdoors.co.uk/16136228/regatta-womens-calderdale-iv-waterproof-jacket-16136228

ShrikeAttack · 20/08/2021 10:47

How about this one from Trespass? I'd stay away from 'jazzy' colourways, simple with a bit of interest is what you're after. Link here

stripedbananas · 20/08/2021 11:16

They all look very uncool to me. I'm not liking the colours or cut at all. Where are you even managing to find these.

beguilingeyes · 20/08/2021 11:24

Seasalt. Fantastic raincoats.

countrygirl99 · 20/08/2021 11:26

Anything for £35 is unlikely to keep more then a light shower out.

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 20/08/2021 11:28

If you have a long walk to school then none of those jackets are going to keep you dry in the pouring rain, unless you will be wearing waterproof trousers as well. You need a full length waterproof coat, at least knee length, maybe look for a waterproof parka.
