Which rain jacket is the best for me

Currently looking for a cool and funky raincoat for a school run etc.
I am looking on these ones but not sure which one looks the one.
Budget £35 max.
I’m 49 but young in the heart and head.
I don’t want a jacket for 80 years old lady as some jackets can make you look like that.
I’m intrigued by the pink one for now..but feel free to tell me which looks good.

@countrygirl99 I have joules and Barbour but I find them too heavy for weather like this. The Barbour is ok for Autumn and early Spring
but i can’t wear it now- too warm.
I want a lighter jacket so I can just throw it on, over T-shirt etc..
I looked on Seasalt but not keen as similar to Joules I already have.
I also checked the Lighthouse coats.

Joules isn't serious rainwear, it's a fashion brand You need to look at proper outdoor wear brands. Try somewhere like Cotswold Outdoor/craghoppers if you want to keep dry in anything other than light rain. If that isn't important no problem but really cheap rainwear won't keep you dry.

Just thinking, I bought a sea salt raincoat in 2012 when we had so much rain I was fed up of wet knickers!
They are proper waterproof and cover your bum, I get loads of compliments still with it (although not sure it's cutting edge!)

I also have a shorter rain coat which I got from go outdoors. Its a more slim cutting jacket.

Both of these were pricey but have lasted years and actually work

Salanda · 21/08/2021 08:35

Have a look at Rains - they’re properly waterproof, range of different lengths and colours and they’re stylish. Most of their range are thin raincoats, so ideal for when it’s not cold outside.

Keep am eye on tk maxx website and in-store. I got a lovely lightweight Didrikson midlength jacket last year for £50. Really good quality.

Catlover77 · 21/08/2021 08:49

The one in your second post. All in your first post are frumpy

Beachhutsandsand · 21/08/2021 08:53

@RampantIvy I had Lighthouse Victoria jacket, I bought it about two or 3 months ago as it looked gorgeous online but not so much in real life sadly so I returned. It had a lovely rainbow striped lining inside but was extremely flimsy, also I did not like the fishtail.

@Catlover77 I think I decided on the one you mentioned.
It does look really good in real life, the photo does not any justice.
I got it on hold in my local Sainsbury’s as sold out online now.
I was originally thinking about the pink one as I like the grey and pink combo but as someone mentioned above it looks like shell suit jacket!

Only you know what colours suit you.
Uniqlo blocktech jackets are nicely styled, I'd say they are ok for showers as they don't claim fully waterproof but it's pretty water repellent fabric.

Beachhutsandsand · 21/08/2021 09:25

I also found these jackets.

And this. I love the colour but I don’t think it’s that beautiful brigh blue in the real life as I managed to find it on other website..

They are all pretty frump tbh . The only way to look cool in the Rain is to not bother and use an umbrella! As above try Rains website . I have a superdry Waterproof jacket which is my best attempt at looking ok in the rain .

RampantIvy · 21/08/2021 22:29

No to umbrellas for me. I want to have both hands free.

Germolenequeen · 21/08/2021 22:55

I'd stay away from pastels not only are they frumpy but they are dirt magnets 😅

Have you checked Regatta?

JaceLancs · 21/08/2021 23:24

I was just considering one very similar to this in tkmaxx - it’s same make but more of a pistachio green than peppermint
Are pastels a real no no?
I also looked at a bright yellow Ralph Lauren one but it was £40 more and not guaranteed waterproof

Sickoffamilydrama · 21/08/2021 23:33

I have a rains jacket and it's been brilliant in the weather we've been having, I have a longer length one Which means my legs stay dry.

Ikeameatballs · 21/08/2021 23:41

At best I like the bright blue one with the stripy hood lining.

I bought a Rab jacket 5 or 6 years ago, it cost about £100, which I know is over your budget, but it must now be working out at about 20p/wear.

Howshouldibehave · 21/08/2021 23:41

My mum and aunt would wear those and they are nearly 80, which would put me off. I’d tend to go for black, myself

TheScottishPlay · 21/08/2021 23:50

Try Lighthouse. I have a reasonable looking spotty one from them (I'm in your age bracket). Great waterproof capabilities and they have a sale on.

NotMeNoNo · 22/08/2021 08:16

Trespass, Regatta and Mountain Warehouse are all good for affordable waterproofs that are actually waterproof, but have plenty of everyday styles. I like that parka style in bright colours. How about one of these?

Ok that was your original suggestion! Duh.
