Knee length skirt with knee length boots

Is this a dated look? I believe is what suits me best. I am short and curvy, and midi/maxi skirts don't look right on me. I am 50 and won't wear a mini skirt. Anyone seen plain black knee length skirts? Admittedly, what's knee length for me is probably short for most women...

Manc I don't think there's anything grumpy about that look!

@NeverDropYourMoonCup I got some new thick soles put on a pair of boots. I think I paid about £16. If you have a nice cobbler near you it’s worth asking.

I’m another one who struggles to wear ankle boots with a knee length skirt. I’m 5’5” with a long body and short legs. It’s not flattering on me as my shins aren’t long enough. I tend to wear flat brogue shoes these days (well I did back in the days when I left the house in smart clothes)

I do think long boots work a skirt that has a hem which covers the top of the boot.

I also have these boots (hopefully photo has attached) for cold days when shoes won’t cut it. They are 3/4 length and do work with a knee length skirt.

Brilliant, thanks @Squiz81 - I'll try at the weekend!

@FreekStar2

www.anthropologie.com I love this look on the Anthropologie home page!
Crikey - that’s a look I remember from the grungy nineties! Grin Not one I’d go for personally, I prefer a slightly more tailored look.

Ankle boots and any short, knee length or midi skirt look terrible on me. My legs look like overstuffed sausages. I suspect this is true for quite a few people.

FreekStar2 · 20/08/2021 07:30

@MaMelon no, it's not something I'd wear myself but I like it! The 90s are everywhere....

MaMelon · 20/08/2021 10:15

I think there comes a time where if you can remember people younger than you wearing something the first it’s probably not a good idea to wear it when it comes back around!

Floisme · 20/08/2021 10:22

Ma if I did that I'd have to take to my bed for the rest of my life.

MaMelon · 20/08/2021 10:35

Not at all! I’ve not explained my thinking very well - for me it’s probably about choosing the pieces more carefully so I don’t look like I’m copying what a teenager would have worn in that decade iykwim. I’m quite conservative though.

I agree that 3/4 boots work better than ankle boots. I have Victorian lace up boots that work with lots of dresses and are somehow more flattering than an ankle boot would be. I really think ankle boots with skirts only work on women with stick thin very long legs.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/08/2021 14:21

It depends so much in the skirt, the boots and the legs. I'm short and tubby but my legs are still quite decent. The right pair of black heeled ankle boots can make them still look rather good. And even flat ones look okay, depending on the skirt/dress and with opaque tights.
