Knee length skirt with knee length boots

PeaceLoveAndCandy · 18/08/2021 11:41

Is this a dated look? I believe is what suits me best. I am short and curvy, and midi/maxi skirts don't look right on me. I am 50 and won't wear a mini skirt. Anyone seen plain black knee length skirts? Admittedly, what's knee length for me is probably short for most women...

lindyloo57 - that’s good to know, thanks - I’ll take a look Smile I’m a bit shorter than you at 5 foot 1.5, but hopefully they’ll be better than many of the others that go over my knee or up beyond the crease at the back, making it virtually impossible to walk!

seven201 · 19/08/2021 16:23

I think knee high boots are the dated part. It took me a long time to get used to my legs in ankle boots after always wearing knee high ones previously. I'm short and apple shaped and it's taken me a while to adjust to below the knee skirts, but I do really like them now.

GeorgeMichaelBluth · 19/08/2021 16:33

Im in my 30s and same shape (bit fatter) and have just bought some boots for this style too Smile

robotcollision · 19/08/2021 16:38

@InTheNameOfAllThatIsHonest

Ankle boots with skirts make your legs look stumpy (unless you're tall and thin). You may look fashionable, but you'll also look stumpy. I think knee-high boots are the most flattering length.
This.
Salanda · 19/08/2021 16:55

@robotcollision I think ankle boots have to hit at the right spot to not look stumpy. I’m tall (5 ft 10) and slim and I struggle with some styles that just cut off at the wrong point (too low). If they come slightly higher up, and especially if they have a heel - even a small one - they look much better.

Back to @PeaceLoveAndCandy i think if you love knee length skirts and knee length boots but want to look up to date just find the right styles - eg the chunkier styles seem to be popular this year. Then you can wear your favourite look but still feel you’re following fashion a bit. I’m always in jeans and jumper in autumn as it suits me and my lifestyle, but just change the shape of the jeans to feel like I’m keeping up to date.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 19/08/2021 16:58

Not frumpy, but you need some properly chunky books like these: www.asos.com/us/prd/12397275?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

I think it would look frumpy with riding boots or something more dainty.

Exactly. But those of us who are under 5'5, with footballers' calves just can;t wear them with skirts. It all gets a bit Trunchbull. I'd far rather look like a 1970s throwback and wear long boots .

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/08/2021 17:22

Depends on the ankle boots. I have some that are great with skirts, even on my little old legs.

QueenBee52 · 19/08/2021 17:28

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie

Oh ffs. Wear what you like OP, if you like it and it suits you.

This shit on here about things being 'old lady-ish' and dowdy makes my blood boil.

Very slightly over the knee or just on the knee with a small gap between the top of the boots will be fine. Honestly it will. It's a look that lots of people wear in Autumn/Winter whatever the fucking fashion police on here think.

A skirt and boots won't make you look 50. Being 50 is what makes you look 50.

this ...

with bloody bells on .. 🎉

Salanda · 19/08/2021 17:52

@robotcollision ha, yes about the Trunchbull look! (That’s me when I try to do a messy bun Grin)

It’s completely possible to balance following fashion and wearing what suits you. To me it’s adapting looks you love and suit you to tweak them a bit to reflect what’s in - changes in shapes or colours to update things a bit, adding accessories or whatever. It also means you can buy better quality clothes and just add small bits each season to enjoy and feel like you’re up to date.

DonaPatrizia · 19/08/2021 18:03

Can look brilliant but only if you have good knees.

Jayne35 · 19/08/2021 18:28

My 65 year old Mum wears a short skirt and knee high boots (has fab legs though) with tights occasionally. Wear what ever you feel comfortable in OP.

These would look absolutely dreadful on my short legs and pear shape - I don’t care if they are ‘on trend’, it would not be a good look for me at all Grin
MancMum2000 · 19/08/2021 19:16

Ah no I was thinking something like this for autumn, is it frumpy or ok with a hemline slightly below the knee?

Knee length skirt with knee length boots

Queen Bee - Thanks for the bloody bells!

MancMum - that looks lovely.

Nobody has good knees. Knees are weird, whoever they belong to.
BangingOn · 19/08/2021 20:33

@MancMum2000 I love that look.

BeeOnADandelion · 19/08/2021 20:35

@MrsPear

Right ok I’m wading in - waves a white flag - what would the fashion police wear with this skirt here
I have something similar. I'll be wearing it with thick black tights or leggings if it's really cold and block heeled black suede ankle boots with green and red embroidery on the side. Paired with a Victorian style high neck frilly shirt and a blazer. I'm not the fashion police though, I wear lots of unfashionable things. So not sure if that helps you or not!

I have those kind of boots - that’s the sort of look I go for. Love it.
NeverDropYourMoonCup · 19/08/2021 20:46

I'm going to risk it - I've got a pair of knee boots that I want to wear this year, but they have a crappy, slippy and flat sole. If I took them to a cobbler/timpson would they tell me I'm an idiot if I asked whether they could put a chunky vibram sole on them, and if they could, how much would that be likely to cost?

They were stupidly expensive and I just haven't worn them because in cold or wet weather, I want to stay on my feet and I want more of a cushioned feel anyhow.

I won't be buying new ones because I need fat bastard width boots and these were the only ones that ever stretched around the fat and muscle.

FreekStar2 · 19/08/2021 21:01

I think knee high boots are a classic style that will re-emerge in force in the foreseeable future. I'm surprised at the dowdy comments because traditionally long boots are thought of as sexy- I certainly have experience of men loving them! In fact, ankle boots are a lot less flattering to the leg than tall boots because they hide the ankle at the slimmest part and make legs look heavier- especially those that are wider and not close fitting. I'm pretty sure ankle boots and skirts in a look that's on the way out, unless you are wearing chunky lace-styles like doc martens.

MancMum2000 · 19/08/2021 21:02

Phew thank you @MaMelon @BangingOn @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I have a black leather (well, pleather) pleated skirt that I’m hoping will work

Echobelly · 19/08/2021 21:03

If something suits, I don't care if it's dated!

DirtyDancing · 19/08/2021 21:09

Knee length boots are making a come back. In all colours, even white Hmm You'd want to go 70s vibe with them though, so not with a pencil Skirt, something more flowy and bit longer so don't see any gap. Heal wise it's two style narrow heal, pointy toe. Or more square heal with almond shaped toe. Go for browns, whites or red for really up to date look

This site has some good pictures / ideas.
