If you don't like jeans...

...and I mean any of them, whether mom, girlfriend, skinny, wide, etc - what do you wear?

I never found jeans comfy, no matter the cut or style. I suit leggings very much but they do get a bit boring, even if I have good quality ones (hiking, yoga, etc).

Would love to hear from others who don't wear jeans, everyone seems obsessed with them!

I love jeans but I think it's dresses people wear if they don't like jeans, or more latterly, jumpsuits.

Terriah · 15/08/2021 16:34

Chinos are good, or jersey type trousers. You can also get "treggings" which are basically posh leggings in trouser material, made to look like trousers.

Henrytheehoover · 15/08/2021 16:42

I tend to wear dresses rather than jeans TBH. Or when I was younger just plain black trousers.

MedusasBadHairDay · 15/08/2021 16:43

Skirts or dresses, occasionally dungarees.

cherrypiepie · 15/08/2021 16:54

Jeans hate me. I'd love a pair of jeans I felt comfortable and confident in. But alas it's not to be.

In summer I wear Midi skirts mainly dresses and culottes. In winter it's mini skirts and dresses and tights. My winter wardrobe is much smaller than my summer one though.

ConfusedParticle · 15/08/2021 16:59

Ah, the mini skirt in winter.
I suit mini's, decent legs, slim mid forties, but I feel so girly and a bit teenybopper in them. I can absolutely look good in them but feel weird.

and if I wore one in winter on a wet day, I can't see a raincoat looking great with wooly tights.

aaaghghggh..

Do you like cords or chinos OP? Or classic wool cigarette trousers?

TooWicked · 15/08/2021 17:10

Boden trousers, particularly the Richmonds, I have them in various colours and both lengths.

nordica · 15/08/2021 17:12

I wear skinny jeans sometimes but mostly various dresses and skirts, dungarees, Lucy & Yak Alexa trousers, some slim leg trousers in various fabrics (M&S is surprisingly good for smart casual trousers that feel as comfy as joggers) and leggings for casual wear and exercise.

cherrypiepie · 15/08/2021 17:13

It depends on the skirt and fabric I think. I have a mini denim black pinafore I love in winter with a longed sleeved t shirt and lace up walking style boots and Barbour parka coat with thermal tights.

Also have an a-line leopard print skirt in a woolish thicker fabric and another a heavier almost tapestry fabric and neither move much. Wear it with biker boots and a double breasted wool coat.

I should add I'm not slim and don't have good legs! I am early 40s.

Edmontine · 15/08/2021 17:14

I love really intentionally cut skirts - not the droopy acres of material type, the sort that can practically stand up by themselves.

Plus the odd difficult dress; one from a few years ago in red tweed with a boned corset (can’t get into it post lockdown) and this year’s ultra-voluminous effort which I’m planning to wear under a sweater through autumn.

Quite like really sharply tailored trousers too. Jeans are my least favourite elective clothing.

ConfusedParticle · 15/08/2021 17:24

Thanks folks! it's great to hear how other people are putting things together.

When the rain or wind hits I generally just pull the sweaty Betty leggings on and a windproof hiking jacket. This is fine, but not forever.....I sometimes want to look a bit more chic in winter.

Love the idea of wide leg trousers (Toast, etc) but feel they make me look wide....Blush I also love wool and linen and whatnot but I wont succumb to using a brolly in the rain!

I think jeans are uncomfy and not terribly flattering, but I can see why people love them - they literally go with anything, for almost any occasion, bar black tie, etc.

I think leggings look weird when you aren't exercising.. I have friends who wear leggings in place oh jeans and it just looks odd .. there are jeans that flatter , especially if you look good in leggings !

Might depend on climate, ive been living in the fells for years and honestly it is the easiest way to get myself to Tesco Grin

Moving a little further south soon, but will still be techincally 'north' and fairly blustery and wet. I tend to wear leggings with stuff that walkers or runners wear, it doesn't look odd but I am tired of it.

......but would PREFER to dress like these....

Although I would have no idea how to adapt these for gales, rain or harsh winters. If anyone has any ideas/solutions they would be much appreciated!

I haven't worn jeans since I was first pregnancy 6 years ago. My body just rejects them now!

I wear a lot more dresses but for trousers I wear soft cotton tapered trousers a lot, sometimes harem pants (not jazzy designs just plain) and leggings made of non-legging material like cord etc.

Tealwarrior · 15/08/2021 18:12

I’d love a good pair of cigarette trousers. Can you recommend any pls.
gunnersgold · 15/08/2021 18:18

@ConfusedParticle , your current outfit is very outdoorsy. I mean people who wear leggings instead of jeans in a whole outfit .. just looks weird..
anyways have you tried leather look leggings and biker boots and a nice puffer coat if you get cold ? It long coat like the other pic ?

Annasgirl · 15/08/2021 18:19

Hi OP, I have the same dilemma. I lived in posh leggings last year but wanted a change. I also wear midi dresses with denim jackets but this is not a look you can wear in the rain!! I have just bought some jogger trousers from M and S and Zara to wear for Autumn. I will try to link them. I wear them with trainers and a jacket now but plan to wear them with waterproof hiking boots in wet weather.

I know what you mean, leggings don't look so great as a regular jeans replacement.
Im not really a leather type of person, but your suggestion brought to mind Saga from The Bridge Grin

I don't think I suit any trousers really. Only leggings or skirts. This is my dilemma. I could easily wear skirts beneath my long wool coat (like in the images above) but it wouldn't fare well in a downpour. Perhaps I need to get familiar with umbrellas...

I love that colour. See, I am trying to visualise them in rain with hiking boots, but im not all that great at putting things together. I do have some sweaty Betty 'Gary' joggers which I love, but only for summer as theyre really thin.

Since being pregnant I can't stand jeans, I live in dresses

Sewaccidentprone · 15/08/2021 19:09

Different styles fit different people.

I am short waisted, so high rise jeans generally come as far up as the bottom of my bra! I also have v small hips compared to my waist, so anything with a fixed waistband doesn’t work either, as if I get the waist to fit the hips are huge. Presume you like leggings as they’re v stretchy and give with you?

Think you probably need to identify your shape first ie hourglass, apple etc, plus your ‘rise’ - the length between the bottom of the crotch and your waistband. I would find a shop that sells loads of different fits and identify which one you are. Then go for the style.

Llamasally · 15/08/2021 19:16

Can’t vouch for them personally as not yet taken the plunge but it sounds like the Acai Activewear trouser varieties might be worth a try?
