If you don't like jeans...

...and I mean any of them, whether mom, girlfriend, skinny, wide, etc - what do you wear?

I never found jeans comfy, no matter the cut or style. I suit leggings very much but they do get a bit boring, even if I have good quality ones (hiking, yoga, etc).

Would love to hear from others who don't wear jeans, everyone seems obsessed with them!

@Sewaccidentprone

Different styles fit different people.

I am short waisted, so high rise jeans generally come as far up as the bottom of my bra! I also have v small hips compared to my waist, so anything with a fixed waistband doesn’t work either, as if I get the waist to fit the hips are huge. Presume you like leggings as they’re v stretchy and give with you?

Think you probably need to identify your shape first ie hourglass, apple etc, plus your ‘rise’ - the length between the bottom of the crotch and your waistband. I would find a shop that sells loads of different fits and identify which one you are. Then go for the style.

Thanks, this is helpful.

I am 5'4 and slim. Have a short torso and longer legs. High rise anything is out. Never feels comfortable. I have smallish boobs and a thinner, bonier upper half. Im not quite a pear. You are right about the leggings, I have IBS and they don't irritate my gut.

Ive never got along with trousers, but did used to wear jeans a lot. Standard straight jeans made me look floppy and skinnies felt too restricting. I just don't suit any style of jeans, but more importantly, I don't really want to wear them either, so it's fine.

@Llamasally

Can’t vouch for them personally as not yet taken the plunge but it sounds like the Acai Activewear trouser varieties might be worth a try?
Thank you will check these out!

I was about to say Gary joggers but you’re ahead of me - they do fleece lined ones for winter! I live in them

5zeds · 15/08/2021 19:25

To me leggings aren’t great unless for exercise, small children, or pyjamas. There are literally hundreds of fabrics that aren’t denim. Why not start with identifying what you like in a fabric and then move forward from there? Heavy/light, textured/shiny/mat, stretchy/rigid….

ConfusedParticle · 15/08/2021 19:30

for reference, this is me in skinny jeans, gives an idea of my build. Try as I might I couldnt get on with them. Please excuse the shitty gilet Blush

So something with Lycra, mid rise and a bit of give on the waist?

Have you tried jeggings? Or treggings?

ConfusedParticle · 15/08/2021 20:39

what is a tregging? Ive heard of them but not sure what they mean!

You look great in your jeans !!

Jerseygirl12 · 15/08/2021 20:50

I don’t wear jeans. I wear Hush joggers with a denim jacket, knee length and midi length dresses in the summer and knee length dresses with leather jacket and opaque tights in the autum/winter. I also wear linen joggers in the summer.

gunnersgold · 15/08/2021 20:55

I like get atyle@ConfusedParticle ✅✅

gunnersgold · 15/08/2021 20:55

I like her style even !

ConfusedParticle · 15/08/2021 21:03

Ah thank you, I kind of hate that look, I think I was trying to be casual and 'normal' but it doesn't work for me at all.

Skirts, dresses, cotton capri pants in summer. I haven't owned a pair of jeans for years, they just don't seem to suit on my body for some reason...

CommanderBurnham · 15/08/2021 21:11

I think you look lovely as you are.

CommanderBurnham · 15/08/2021 21:13

Try Jeggings. They're comfier than skinny jeans but look the same. Although skinnies are apparently going out of fashion. You have the legs for them though.

ConfusedParticle · 15/08/2021 21:49

That's lovely to say, thank you! This style really isn't me though. Im much more of a wool coat and dress person, but can never make it work in bad weather:(

According to MN, skinnies are out, haha! Not that im particularly influenced by trends. I loathed skinny jeans for over a decade, but in my honest opinion they are the most flattering style of jean, whatever your body type (I really don't like wide or mon jeans!). I appreciate they are uncomfortable, and that I am in a minority, but hey ho.

going to google leggings. aren't they just another type of legging though?

OP posts:
Pinotforever · 15/08/2021 21:52

I so very rarely wear them. They don't seem to flatter me one bit Sad Dresses and skirts with black tights are my standard day to day wear

nc8765 · 15/08/2021 21:53

I didn't wear jeans for years. I wore dresses and skirts. Thick tights with boots in winter.

Jerseygirl12 · 15/08/2021 21:53

Jeggings are way more comfortable than jeans.

StarlightLady · 16/08/2021 02:46

It would be over the top to say l don’t like jeans, but l rarely wear them from spring until autumn.

I love my dresses, sleeveless, short sleeved, long sleeved. Winter weight and sun dresses.

And you never have to question which top half goes with which bottom half.

Newmum29 · 16/08/2021 02:50

I almost never wear jeans. I wear dresses or skirts 9 times out of 10. If I do want to cover my legs I’ll wear cropped trousers but I agree with you they’re not comfy.

BeeOnADandelion · 16/08/2021 08:52

That dress you pictures OP, it needs a coat similar shape. Nipped in waist and fuller in the bottom half. Tights, fleece lined leggings as close to your skin colour as possible, chunky boots. Vest and jumper (with a % wool for winter, plain cotton for spring/autumn) under the dress. PVC jacket on top for spring/autumn (totally waterproof and zero breathability so keeps all the heat in), wool coat for winter (size up if it's really icey where you live and then you can wear your PVC jacket underneath too). You'll be totally warm like that.

For trousers, look for a % wool for warmth. In winter layer with your leggings underneath. Vest and t-shirt under jumpers (or cardigan /jacket/blazer on top if you think you might need to shed a layer during the day), scarf and long wool coat. Pure wool is meant to be more waterproof than other fabrics, though I haven't tested that theory because I can't afford pure wool. Works for sheep though!

If you haven't already, try wide leg trousers with fitted top half, gives a totally different look to wide legs with a baggy top half. If you don't like wide legs try bootcut so you get the slightly wider look at the ankle but still fitted at the thighs. Those trousers you pictured look good too.

goose1964 · 16/08/2021 12:29

I agree about jeans not being comfortable. In winter I wear straight legged yoga pants or harem trousers ( not the baggy sort) or a skirt or dress with leggings and ankle boots.
