Can’t see a thread so I thought I’d start one. Yes, it’s unbelievably early, but I noticed Glossybox have already revealed their Advent Calendar contents for this year. Saw this reveal on YouTube this morning:

Have to say it doesn’t wow me, but there’s plenty of time and many more Advent Calendars to come, I’m sure! Grin

A question for you all! What’s the best thing you’ve ever got from a beauty calendar?

For me I think the Peony Couture perfume from Liberty two years ago was gorgeous, way beyond my budget for trying new things, and felt really luxurious.

The two other things I’ve bought full size were the Christophe Robin deep conditioning hair masque, which was amazing on my hair, and the Rodial Bee Venom cleanser.

TheDuchessOfMN · 06/09/2021 10:32

Wow @StiffyByng that question might just be worthy of its own thread Smile

I can’t think of any one product, bad memory!

gratedbeetroot · 06/09/2021 10:36

Lumene was sold on FeelUnique and AllBeauty last year (there was a GWP with feelunique, and a code with allbeauty, making it a good deal). I opened it in January. I enjoyed trying the products but wasn’t wowed by anything. I also had Elemis and enjoyed trying more of their range, but again, I’ll be sticking to my trusty favourites (although the papaya mask is a product that I’ve bought for years). I can’t even remember which multi brand calendar I bought last year! It had a large ESPA moisturiser in it though (wasn’t hydrating enough for me).

I will need to have a think about the best item I’ve had from an advent calendar!

supadupapupascupa · 06/09/2021 10:45

My favs have been Estee Lauder serum (and I now use her day and night cream and exfoliate) Votary super seed oil and Serum. Aerin Amber Musk (again Estee Lauder and I've just bought the full size). Diptique candle. Reordered the By Terry lip balm too mainly because the jar is so pretty on my dressing table. Aromatherapy Associates, I ordered the chest of minis and have bought some full size. Oh and the precleanse Dermalogica!

AprilLady · 06/09/2021 11:27

@StiffyByng, I’m also a fan of Peony Couture (got it in a Liberty GWP I think).

Hard to pick a favourite advent calendar item: but three that spring to mind are the Diptyque philosykos perfume from a Space NK calendar, the Olverum bath oil (first encountered in an F&M calendar) and a Lucia Magnani moisturiser, again from F&M. I’ve repurchased the LM cream a couple of times - but only as a 15ml sample on eBay, as it’s far too expensive at RRP.

RazorstormUnicorn · 06/09/2021 11:28

Thanks everyone I will be patient for Lumene and hope it pops up soon!

My favourite product in a calendar was the Jo Malone candle in last year's Space NK. It smelt amazing and was a real treat as I'd never spend that kind of money on a candle. Except ... I loved it so much I might buy myself one this year! Grin

LizzieMacQueen · 06/09/2021 12:30

I had that peony scent too - loved it - repurchased at some ridiculous price, like £180!! Think i was a bit drunk when I did that!

They know what they are doing - getting us hooked on the expensive stuff - crack for us (me anyway) middle aged MNetters.

My mug from the Nespresso advent last yearGrin

Just got the big Rituals one. Got a 10% discount for some reason as well.

wheresmyshoe · 06/09/2021 13:30

My favourites are: Cult51 neck and décolleté cream, chantecaille mousturiser ilapothacary hand cream and Lucia Paganini moisturiser from last year's F&M. It will be a hard act to follow!

My surprise favourite from M&S 2019 was Percy & Reed wonder balm, hated it at first then read instructions and it is brilliant on my hair.

wheresmyshoe · 06/09/2021 13:47

Paganini? magnani!!!

AprilLady · 06/09/2021 13:47

@LizzieMacQueen, that makes me feel a bit less guilty: I had resisted until last week’s combination of 10% off plus GWP proved too much temptation and I have also now purchased a full bottle. Due to be delivered later today Smile

@Housewife2010

I don't like it when Advents have incredibly expensive single products in them. Last year Liberty had a lip line filler worth about £145. This vastly increased the value of the calendar but for me it is not an exciting type of product and if I did love it I would be unable to afford to replace it. I love luxury products and would consider repurchasing an £80 serum if it was absolutely fantastic, but I would be very unlikely to spend more on a single product other than perfume.
House can I ask how you know the individual value of a product in a calendar? You're right it can hugely inflate overall value.
tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 06/09/2021 14:04

@Luvacuppatea

Having a brain block right now and don’t know if I can / or how to edit my above message, but the bag of skincare stuff I mentioned above has found a new home 😊
Ahhh that's so lovely if you! Smile
Window1 · 06/09/2021 14:43

Any idea when either Holland and Barrett or M & S calendars will be released?

Coniferhedge · 06/09/2021 14:46

I'm going to bide my time for the Lumene calendar. If I recall correctly, it didn't sell out in record time like a lot of other calendars do, so I can afford to wait. Now I've said that you can guarantee it will sell out in no time!

I know I'm very sad, but I'm rather taken by this calendar by Paul & Joe. I've never even heard of the brand before, but I love cats and I love anything kitsch/retro/vintage style, so this is right up my street!

@ajandjjmum that's rubbish you received a damaged box and Liberty didn't care - wishing you perfect packaging this year!

@Horehound I purchased CB & Space NK during my mat leave last year - felt a bit guilty but it's a bit of a strange time and I found it so lovely to have them to remind me to look after me (cheesy as that sounds!!)

@Luvacuppatea how lovely of you - you've made someone's day (week, year Grin)

ashmts · 06/09/2021 15:04

I've only been getting these calendars for the last three years and last year was my first 'luxury' one with Space NK. Probably the best (if slightly boring) thing for me was the REN Ready Steady Glow tonic, it's something I'd never used before but it transformed my skin. My favourite things were the Jo Loves candle, Olverum bath oil, and Diptyque perfume though. They felt like real treats.

My favourite thing from the ASOS calendars was the Coco and Eve Like a Virgin hair mask. I've repurchased many times and still use it three years later.

Eaumyword · 06/09/2021 15:08

I ordered the Rituals advent today as I loved it last year. No 10% off for me sadly, but I think it's phenomenal value at £59.90 so it's all good.

Giftwithpurchase · 06/09/2021 15:08

@StiffyByng indeed a great question - mostly I have repurchased from free gifts rather than advents - although as pp have mentioned the Diptyque perfume and Jo Loves candle from 2020 Space NK are gorgeous. I have also repurchased Jo Loves white rose and lemon leaves candle which I received as a mini and was introduced to the Therapie brand at CB which I adore. Will have a think about skincare - don't think I've RP a great deal 🤔

Love the sound of the peony perfume 🤤

@Coniferhedge Paul & Joe is adorable .. plus they tend to use refillable packaging

I had Paul & Joe in 2019. It is indeed incredibly cute. So much that I haven't used the lipsticks as I didn't want to smudge their little cat facesBear

MidnightMeltdown · 06/09/2021 15:27

@AprilLady

I was wondering what people managed to spend £175 on to get the GWP - now I know! 😂

I loved the Dear Polly perfume from last year, but as someone who rarely wears perfume, I can't imagine spending £80, let alone £180. I clearly need a more glamorous life 😂

I now really want to smell the peony....

absolutelyknackeredcow · 06/09/2021 15:59

Have just ordered the Rituals one - I get their emails so not sure it's on general release yet but boy, it's beautiful

Eaumyword · 06/09/2021 17:03

It is beautiful isn't it! I went for the cheaper one like last year because I think it's thumpingly good value, the products are lovely (including tiny candles!) and yes, the packaging is fantastic. Last year it arrived in a huge red box with a bow and I was so thrilled!
Not bothering with the Body Shop one this year which is similarly priced, as I felt that was stuffed with naughty fillers like childlike hair bobbles, grips and those bath lily things.

absolutelyknackeredcow · 06/09/2021 17:31

My pre teens are huge rituals fans so we are going to share! Can't wait for it to arrive .. they are going to go insane

Coniferhedge · 06/09/2021 18:23

Rituals does look lovely. The type of calendar you could bring out every year just as a decoration!
