If you washed your hair and let it dry naturally, how long would it take until fully dry?

I haven't washed my hair and let it dry naturally since I was a child. Always blow dry and straighten it. It's incredibly thick. Anyway, last weekend I got caught in the rain and my hair was soaked. I wasn't going anywhere so just left it ..over twelve hours later it was still damp! I have no idea how long it would take until fully dry... especially underneath, probably a whole day I'd imagine. It would probably end up with that horrible damp smell!

So how long would yours take?

30minutes
You’re clearly blessed with abundance of hair

I have never used a hair drier in my life. I have shoulder length hair. It takes i hour 20 mins to dry, but if I go to bed with it damp, it will still be damp in the morning

BryanAdamsLeftAnkle · 11/08/2021 21:06

About 10 mins. It's ridiculously fine and is a nightmare

ladymuck111 · 11/08/2021 21:06

I rarely blow dry my hair just straighten it but it takes at least 2 hours to be fully dried.

Same. It’s fucking horrible isn’t it Sad
MorriseysGladioli · 11/08/2021 21:07

Literally 2 or 3 minutes, sadly.

trevthecat · 11/08/2021 21:07

A couple of hours. If I slept on it or put it in a bun then it won't dry.

MrsSkylerWhite · 11/08/2021 21:08

About an hour and a quarter. It’s much fuller when it’s blow dried.

Comedycook · 11/08/2021 21:09

Honestly my hair if left to dry naturally is wider than my shoulders Grin. It takes ages to straighten...I take tiny strands at a time and it takes ages plus the heat is damaging. I'd rather have fine hair!

I too have an abundance of hair and it is not fun in the slightest! If I wash and put it up out the way in the morning, it is still damp at bed time. If I leave down, it takes up to 6 hours to be completely dry, and that's if I keep brushing at regular intervals to move it about! How I've always wished for thinner hair!! 🤣

PilatesPeach · 11/08/2021 21:10

6 hours at least - I have long straight hair. I do not blow dry it with a brush - if I am in a hurry I just wave the hairdryer at it for 10 mins or so but generally I keep it wrapped in a towel for an hour to absorb alot of the water then comb it through - if I run my fingers through it periodically it will dry more quickly

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 11/08/2021 21:10

About four hours maybe? Hair's just below shoulder length but pretty thick.

clary · 11/08/2021 21:10

I went swimming this morning (8am) and my hair's not fully dry yet, but it has been tied in a bunch most of the day.

Singinghollybob · 11/08/2021 21:12

Mine takes all day to dry naturally and it looks shit if I let it
It sits just below my shoulders and its always been thick and quite frizzy/wiry

Allthelights · 11/08/2021 21:12

Mine takes about two hours. My dd’s takes over four hours.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 11/08/2021 21:12

OP you can buy ultra absorbent hair towels. Maybe get it 3/4 dry naturally and then use a dryer on the gentlest setting. Or once the top layer is dry, tie that up so the bottom layers get exposed to air.

Komandoo · 11/08/2021 21:13

Most of the day. Mine is still a bit wet now from a shower at 7am. It is very fine but there is a lot of it.

Quornflakegirl · 11/08/2021 21:14

A couple of hours, I never blow dry it.

Pinetreesfall · 11/08/2021 21:14

Literally 2 days. My hairdresser has been doing hair for 25+ years and says it's the thickest hair she's ever seen. It's just below my shoulders but is like a mane. After I had my boys it decided it wanted to be really curly too just to add to the joys.

Oh thanks, I'll have a look online!

Ten minutes. Maybe half an hour in winter.

It’s so fine I would love to have proper hair 😆. It is handy when swimming though.

BelindaBumcrack · 11/08/2021 21:15

It takes about 30 minutes. But I look like Grayson Perry when it dries.

Don't get me wrong, he's a brilliant artist and all that but that's what I look like. And I don't like it.

I straighten it and then go to bed but the horrendous menopausal night sweats mean that I wake up with wet, frizzy hair again. I started HRT 6 weeks ago. It was all good but now the night sweats are back. I bloody hate getting old. It's shit!

Primrosefields · 11/08/2021 21:16

At times, I leave it overnight and it can still sometimes be damp for part of the next morning.
Even my hairdresser has said that my hair holds water. It is very thick but the strands themselves are fine so there is a lot of hair.
My parents are in their 70s and still have thick heads of hair. My children have also got my hair luckily, as my dh and his side seem to be thinner on the hair front.

Redcrayons · 11/08/2021 21:16

About an hour. I jump in the shower about 730 and it’s usually dry by the time I start work at 830. It’s very frizzy so doesn’t look great I’m WFH so nobody sees it.

I straighten of I’m going anywhere.

4 hours plus, I’d probably shave my head.
