If you washed your hair and let it dry naturally, how long would it take until fully dry?

I haven't washed my hair and let it dry naturally since I was a child. Always blow dry and straighten it. It's incredibly thick. Anyway, last weekend I got caught in the rain and my hair was soaked. I wasn't going anywhere so just left it ..over twelve hours later it was still damp! I have no idea how long it would take until fully dry... especially underneath, probably a whole day I'd imagine. It would probably end up with that horrible damp smell!

So how long would yours take?

Several hours (I've never timed it.
I also have thick hair.

GalaxyGirl24 · 11/08/2021 22:41

Usually air dry unless I have to be somewhere early on (curly hair)...

In winter 10/12 hrs, in summer like 6 hrs

MonsterJammin · 11/08/2021 22:41

Easily 6 hours. Hair is the shortest it's ever been (just on/above shoulders) but still takes ages to blow dry too. I tend to leave it for at least an hour or so before blow drying so it's not completely soaking when I start. I don't leave it to fully dry naturally though as it would be a massive, wavy/frizzy mess and is much harder to straighten too.

LimitIsUp · 11/08/2021 22:49

2 hours

sanityisamyth · 11/08/2021 22:52

I don't own a hair dryer so I just leave mine to dry overnight. It's usually dry by the morning at least, especially if I don't tie it up!

CirqueDeMorgue · 11/08/2021 22:53

Couple of hours but same as pp, if I go to bed with damp hair, it'll still be damp in the morning. I never blow dry it these days, I just can't be bothered. It gets plaited so it goes wavy.

User7458 · 11/08/2021 22:57

About an hour, it's short ,thick and curly and I towel dry it a bit then leave it.

Kanaloa · 11/08/2021 22:58

Mine is basically dry and fluffy the minute I step out of the shower. Awful. I envy those with long thick hair!

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 11/08/2021 23:00

If I left my hair to dry naturally it would still be wet the following morning!

ODFOx · 11/08/2021 23:02

I am very thin/ menopausalky bals and my hair dries in 5 minutes without conditioner, 9 with conditioner. Quicker if I put the blower on in the car. Always looking oks crap but effort doesn't improve it so I've gone for the easy life. I envy you!

Marguerite2000 · 11/08/2021 23:07

It depends how long I can leave it down for, but at least a few hours. In hot weather it never really dries properly. Blow drying drying doesn't help because it makes me sweat through my scalp.

CornishPastyDownUnder · 11/08/2021 23:10

i have shorter v thick hair&also dont use a hairdryer as its naturally wavy-i like to scrunch it &i live in a warm climate year round..mine is washed nightly&dries by 9ish..so about4hrs..when we spent some time in southernOz i used a hairdryer-tried my usual approach&ended up feeling really cold&hair still damp+pillow the next morning🤣

MintyGreenDream · 11/08/2021 23:18

About 4 hours

MrsPumpkinSeed · 11/08/2021 23:21

About 10 mins. It's long but really fine.

Maria1982 · 11/08/2021 23:23

I am also ‘blessed’ haha with thick hair. Like you, if I left it to dry naturally in winter indoors in would take… 24 hours?
I looove hot summer days when it can at least mostly dry naturally !

Thekormachameleon · 11/08/2021 23:33

I washed my hair at 10am Saturday morning and had to rush straight out without drying it. When I returned home just after midnight it was still wet. I blasted it with a dryer for 5 mins and went to bed - still not properly dry the next morning

FenceSplinters · 11/08/2021 23:36

20 minutes, half hour at most. I have crappy thin hair.

snuffykins · 11/08/2021 23:37

About 2 days.

If I tie it in a bun when wet it takes 5/6 days for it to be fully dry. When I was younger, before hair straighteners were common, i'd regularly end up with my hair smelling because it never really fully dried in parts.

It takes me about 1.5 hours to blow-dry and straighten it. Over the last year and a half I started trying to learn how to manage the curls so I don't have to straighted it all the time.

nordica · 11/08/2021 23:43

A couple of hours usually but depends on the weather too, much quicker on a hot summer day compared to damp winter times.

NotMyCat · 12/08/2021 00:02

Hours and hours. Possibly days Grin
I have very fine curly hair but low porosity and it just holds water. Went for a walk in summer with wet hair (in a ponytail), it was 29c. Hair still soaked after an hour

NotMyCat · 12/08/2021 00:02

Oh and I diffuse for an hour and it still won't be dry Hmm

MiddlesexGirl · 12/08/2021 00:06

If tied up can be 24 hours.
Loose - around 6 hours or so.

PoppyDotx · 12/08/2021 00:07

Forever, it's so thick even drying it with a hairdryer takes 45 minutes

MiddlesexGirl · 12/08/2021 00:07

I don't bother with a hairdryer because it takes too long.

BraveBananaBadge · 12/08/2021 00:15

Never realised 'thick hair' and 'having a lot of hair' are two different things before now!
