If you washed your hair and let it dry naturally, how long would it take until fully dry?

I haven't washed my hair and let it dry naturally since I was a child. Always blow dry and straighten it. It's incredibly thick. Anyway, last weekend I got caught in the rain and my hair was soaked. I wasn't going anywhere so just left it ..over twelve hours later it was still damp! I have no idea how long it would take until fully dry... especially underneath, probably a whole day I'd imagine. It would probably end up with that horrible damp smell!

So how long would yours take?

Mine would take all day and still not be fully dry in its natural state, but I get a Brazilian blow dry every 3 months and that hugely reduces the drying time.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 11/08/2021 21:16

12 hours, takes forever even when it's 30 degrees outside.

Elouera · 11/08/2021 21:17

I very rarely blow dry mine! I have wavy, thick hair down to my bra strap. Hairdressers always comment about how long it takes when I have a blowdry. If I wash at say 6pm. I'll sleep on a towel and it will still be damp in the morning and take maybe 4 more hours to dry- sometimes more! If I wash it in the morning, it will be still be damp in the evening underneath.

I wouldn't know, I've never tried. But it is just over shoulder length and really thick so I'm guessing several hours as a minimum.

MistyFrequencies · 11/08/2021 21:18

I washed mine on Monday and it's only properly dry now. I have a ridiculous amount of hair though. Like every 3 months the hairdresser thins it and there's a pile on the floor and it's still stupidly thick.

LavendulaAngustifolia · 11/08/2021 21:18

5 minutes. The hairdresser usually has to rewet it halfway through the cut because its dried to quickly.

lokomojo · 11/08/2021 21:19

2 days

Wow. Are you a wookey? Grin

(No, don’t be silly, of course I’m not envious)

Clymene · 11/08/2021 21:20

All day. I washed it at 10am, tied it up at about 2pm and it's still damp now

N0RKS · 11/08/2021 21:21

Days!
Another one cursed with thick, frizzly annoying hair.
It only looks glossy and lovely JUST after I have dyed it and straightened it.
Otherwise : cartoon electric shock

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 11/08/2021 21:21

About 5 or 6 hours. I have fine hair but lots of it. Its like washing sheets. I can't do it with a jug or handheld shower head, I have to actually lie down in the bath and submerge it to get the shampoo out. Even then it takes 2 rinses.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 11/08/2021 21:22

If not tied up in anyway prob 6-8hrs, thick hair but sounds more manageable than yours OP

Empressofthemundane · 11/08/2021 21:22

Past shoulder length and curly. About 4 hours.

Kijaji · 11/08/2021 21:23

I'm like you OP, I have shoulder length really thick hair that curls when wet, I have to set a day aside to wash my hair and make sure it's washed before lunchtime otherwise it would still be wet before I got to bed, if I blow dried my hair it would turn into a massive ball of frizz, it drives me mad!

TrampolineForMrKite · 11/08/2021 21:24

About an hour, but it’s short at the moment. When it’s been longer it’s taken bloody hours but it’s thick.

Bryonyshcmyony · 11/08/2021 21:25

If I tie it up it takes hours and hours probably all day to dry

CakeandGo · 11/08/2021 21:27

Completely dry? Maybe 5 or 6 hours. But it’s a thick, long horses tail that explodes into a frizz bomb if let to dry naturally.
I did it once after swimming on a very hot day and it took a around 4 hours.

gurglebelly · 11/08/2021 21:28

Thin rubbish hair here - it would take about 20 minutes

IceLace100 · 11/08/2021 21:30

Depends on the weather but similar to yours on a day like today - 12 hours or more.

I have thick, long hair too.

A friend of mine can practically just towel dry her hair and it's dry immediately!

I think some hair is just more absorbent.

EspressoDoubleShot · 11/08/2021 21:32

Actually thinking about it 30-60min max for my hair to dry
I’m properly jealous of all you enormous haired women

Megan2018 · 11/08/2021 21:32

I have really thick long hair. I almost never blow dry it, it dries completely in about 8hrs in the sunshine, 12hrs indoors. But it looks dry in about 4-5hrs (just wet underneath).

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/08/2021 21:34

My hair - short and straight - about 20-30 minutes.

DD - waistlong curls - more than 12 hours.

TillyTopper · 11/08/2021 21:35

My hair is short and very fine, it takes about 15 mins to dry. I don't have a hair dryer, I just towel dry, comb, and go!

BoxHedge · 11/08/2021 21:35

The variation is interesting! Mine would still be damp in the evening and feel like a Brillo pad.

However I did a keratin treatment recently and I notice that my hair starts to feel dry very quickly. I think each hair strand has become more sealed and waterproof.

That sounds interesting. Did you do the treatment yourself?
