If you washed your hair and let it dry naturally, how long would it take until fully dry?

I haven't washed my hair and let it dry naturally since I was a child. Always blow dry and straighten it. It's incredibly thick. Anyway, last weekend I got caught in the rain and my hair was soaked. I wasn't going anywhere so just left it ..over twelve hours later it was still damp! I have no idea how long it would take until fully dry... especially underneath, probably a whole day I'd imagine. It would probably end up with that horrible damp smell!

So how long would yours take?

15 mins to dry naturally. 30 seconds to dry with a hair dryer. The only good thing about having very fine straight hair!

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 11/08/2021 21:37

A couple of hours if left loose, depanding on the weather.
On work days it's still a bit damp when I tie it up and after a 12 hour shift it'll still be a bit damp when I let it down.

Largethighsbadeyes · 11/08/2021 21:37

About 4 hours

merryhouse · 11/08/2021 21:39

An hour or so? It's quite short now but even when it was it's maximum length (about shoulder blades Sad) it would be dry in two hours.

My hair is not great. If it weren't this colour I'd never have got away with it.

merryhouse · 11/08/2021 21:39

GAH!

You didn't see that. It's not there.

notacooldad · 11/08/2021 21:42

Funny enough I washed mine at a out 7.30 this evening. It was dry properly about an hour ago.

PurBal · 11/08/2021 21:42

Same as you OP. It actually got to the stage where I had to cut it and layer it because it didn’t have time to fully dry underneath. I got a fungal infection on my scalp and had to have two rounds of antibiotics to clear it.

Lbnc2021 · 11/08/2021 21:43

I washed mine yesterday and left it to dry and it’s still damp

Loubiemoo · 11/08/2021 21:44

All day. It’s thick and shoulder length, but really holds water. My hairdresser books an extra 15 minutes for me because it takes so long to dry.
I use a Dyson dryer at home and it’s so quick.

BoxHedge · 11/08/2021 21:45

Yes, it was this one. So far so good, I would highly recommend as it’s made my hair just feel ‘normal’ and smooth after a quick 5-10 min blow dry.

It took 2.5-3 hours, it’s supposed to last 3 months, I am just a few weeks on and haven’t washed my hair very frequently in that time. Hope it lasts.

Most of the day here too. I went to the gym today and sweated too much, so I’ve had to wash it tonight. It’s now too late to use a hair dryer, so I’m going to look absolutely fucking awful tomorrow. Excellent.

LouNatics · 11/08/2021 21:53

Mine takes 3-4 hours if left loose. 2-3 days if I bunch it together when it’s wet eg in a plait.

I’ve never used a hairdryer though. I’ve had one used on me at the hairdresser. I’ve got so much hair I don’t know where I’d even start using a hairdryer

Wallywobbles · 11/08/2021 21:55

12 hours. Never if it's tied up

Caffeinemonster · 11/08/2021 21:59

I got out of the shower about 4 hours ago and it’s still a little damp. It’s currently just above shoulder length…

doitwithlove · 11/08/2021 22:00

1.5 to 2 hours for it to be fully dry.

Always end up with two people at the hairdressers drying my hair. Never see that with anyone else!

BusySittingDown · 11/08/2021 22:07

See mine's really fine, although I have a lot of it. It holds water so it takes hours to dry. I haven't timed how long but this morning I washed it and left it to dry naturally for a while. 3 hours later it was still soaking wet and I blow dried it.

It probably takes about 6 hours to dry fully - unless I was sitting in warm sunshine.

It never feels as clean when it has dried naturally though!

RuthW · 11/08/2021 22:07

About 5 hours for me.

CorianderBee · 11/08/2021 22:15

About an hour maybe a bit longer. As every hairdresser tells me I have thin hair but a lot of it 🙄

DarkDarkNight · 11/08/2021 22:15

Well over 12 hours. I regularly wash it after work and it’s still wet the next day even if I get as much water out as I can from the length and wrap it in a towel for a while. Hairdressers often mention how long it takes to dry.

I would love it to dry naturally in a couple of hours. I don’t have thick hair, just loads of fine hair.

CorianderBee · 11/08/2021 22:16

If it's tied in a bun then it will take all night. But that's for obvious reasons

ExtremelyDisorganised · 11/08/2021 22:17

A couple of hours loose or all day tied back. That's after 5 mins in a tight microfibre turban.

I virtually never blowdry it, it dries into nice waves on its own and takes ages to blowdry so I don't bother. If I straighten it it goes wavy again in a couple of hours, if I use straighteners to curl it they drop out in a couple of hours too, less is definitely more for my hair.

doudouchouchou · 11/08/2021 22:21

I have very thick and quick growing hair.

I shower in the morning and it's still damp when I get home at the end of the school day (teacher). If it's tied up, it won't dry!

It's not fun. Am
Seriously contemplating shaving my head

Scarby9 · 11/08/2021 22:23

Under an hour. I wash it and drive to work. Commute is an hour and my hair is dry by the time I arrive.
