If you washed your hair and let it dry naturally, how long would it take until fully dry?

I haven't washed my hair and let it dry naturally since I was a child. Always blow dry and straighten it. It's incredibly thick. Anyway, last weekend I got caught in the rain and my hair was soaked. I wasn't going anywhere so just left it ..over twelve hours later it was still damp! I have no idea how long it would take until fully dry... especially underneath, probably a whole day I'd imagine. It would probably end up with that horrible damp smell!

So how long would yours take?

About 10-12 hours (if not in the sunshine). Probably about 3-4 in the sun?

Youcunnyfunt · 12/08/2021 00:29

@BraveBananaBadge

Never realised 'thick hair' and 'having a lot of hair' are two different things before now!
Yep! I think it's "coarse" hair though isn't it - that's the proper term? Though I might be wrong!

I have wavy, coarse hair and lots of it...

Reloxa · 12/08/2021 09:23

About 45 mins - very fine and shoulder length.

Galassia · 12/08/2021 09:32

Mine would take forever to dry as it’s long and thick and as I’ve got older (50s) it seems to get thicker every year!

I don’t like Dyson the brand but bought the hair dryer and it has made a huge difference in reducing drying time.

Nietzschethehiker · 12/08/2021 09:57

Oh god hours. Longer if I make the mistake of washing it before bed and putting it into a pony tail. I did that when it was really hot to freshen up before bed. Washed it about 10pm. Put into a ponytail. Still very damp the next morning in the bottom half. It happened to be a really busy day so just brushed and put back into the pony tail and got to about 3pm....Still bloody mildly damp.

I have very thick hair, that has a love hate relationship with curling tongs, an ongoing vendetta against hair bands and pings hair grips out at a force that most weapons manufacturers would kill for. I'm not even naturally curly or particularly long so no idea where the need to expand into the world around it comes from.

HeronLanyon · 12/08/2021 09:59

Around 2 hours. If I put it up when wet it will still be damp at the end of the day when let down.

RobotandPenguin · 12/08/2021 10:04

5-6 hours. Below shoulder length thick and curly. Looks great when left to do it's thing (with the right products) but takes so long. Try to do it at least twice per week though to minimise hairdryers, straightners, tongs and all the other damaging heated stuff it takes to make it look acceptable any other day.

knackeredcat · 12/08/2021 10:06

The roots never seem to dry, but around 2-3 hours for the rest. Finer end of medium textured wavy hair past my waist (needs a good trim soon), getting wavier with age. I bought one of those blow dry brushes to save time on straightening but I'm struggling with it Blush

JaceLancs · 12/08/2021 10:08

I have fine hair but an awful lot of it
It’s also wavy/curly
I always let it air dry, in summer 4-6 hours - in winter much longer
Can only wash in a morning and my staff are used to seeing me with half dry hair until later in the day
I’ve found curl products that work for me and any kind of hairdryer just turns it into a frizz
Thankfully as I’ve got older I don’t need to wash it as often

MissCruellaDeVil · 12/08/2021 10:16

Gosh absolutely hours, when we went on the log flume with DC it was still wet when we got home 6 hours later!

SirenSays · 12/08/2021 10:41

In England? Even in summer it still takes forever! If I plait it or put it up I think it would go mouldy before it would dry. If I go to bed with wet hair, I will wake up with wet hair.

SuperSketchy · 12/08/2021 10:45

I am told I have fine hair "but a lot of it". Mine dries within an hour or two max. I do blow dry it though normally, as it looks crap otherwise.

Silvernutmeg70 · 12/08/2021 10:53

About 4 hours - my hair is incredibly thick and wavy.

whatswithtodaytoday · 12/08/2021 10:53

I wish I had lovely thick hair that didn't dry. I wash, brush and air dry every day - it takes maybe 20 minutes.

StColumbofNavron · 12/08/2021 10:56

Yep, around 6-8 hours here and I can’t even remember where my hairdryer is so I always leave it, usually overnight which takes longer and can result in a massive bush the next morning or some nice curls. It’s always a surprise.

goose1964 · 12/08/2021 11:29

I have thick wavy hair but it only takes about an hour to dry, I squeeze the excess water out, then wear a towel turban for about 10 minutes and when I take the turban off it's only damp. Can't remember when I last used a hair dryer.

poppym12 · 12/08/2021 11:32

Before peri/menopause,about 12 hours. Now, about 15 minutesSad

DialSquare · 12/08/2021 11:37

@BryanAdamsLeftAnkle

About 10 mins. It's ridiculously fine and is a nightmare
Same here. I've got "9 hairs on a nit" as my mum used to say!
Oldraver · 12/08/2021 12:45

I was mine a couple of hours ago and it's almost dry. It is much thinner now than it used to be. I do have it in a towel for a bit then give it a bit of a towel dry

When I had long hair and put it in a bun for work it would still be wet when I came home and let it down

DS has long hair and washes it in the evening, it takes ages to dry. He does it at night now as he was fed up of spending ages drying it in the morning

ChloeAndRadcliffe · 12/08/2021 14:32

About three hours if I don't put any product in it, but then it looks crap. With product, more like six hours and then it might still be damp underneath.

Plump82 · 12/08/2021 14:36

I washed my haid this morning at 6:30am and its still not dry. I try not to blow dry it if im not going anywhere but I couldn't let it air dry if i was going into the office as it would still be soaking.

OldTinHat · 12/08/2021 14:45

Mine is the same OP. I do leave it to 'air' dry if I'm not going out but it's always still very wet underneath 15hrs later. And that's even after towel scrunching it.

dementedma · 12/08/2021 14:54

About 20 minutes

stripedbananas · 13/08/2021 02:09

20 minutes

TeeBee · 13/08/2021 03:46

Around 6 hours. If I tie is up, it'll still be wet at bedtime.
