If fascinators are out for weddings what is in?

I have a fancy wedding to go to next month, and have my outfit all organised apart from headgear.

I keep reading on here that fascinators are over, so what should I wear?

I love hats but they trash my curls.

What about an embellished headband?

Any advice much appreciated 🙂

Hello. Have fascinators ever been good Grin Hats are much more chic but headbands are very fashionable right now. Good enough for the Duchess of Cambridge who looks stunning in them . Smile

cherrypiepie · 11/08/2021 09:52

I read about "hatbands" for wedding guests the other day. I think they are like oversized embellished headbands. Maybe another google term to help your searching!

sunshinesupermum · 11/08/2021 09:57

have fascinators finally had their day? Hurray!!!!!

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 11/08/2021 10:45

I wore this beaded headband to a wedding last week. I've got a couple of cheaper ones that hurt my head after a while, but this one didn't. No one else was wearing one though, so I'm not sure they will become as ubiquitous as fascinators were.

Amima · 11/08/2021 10:48

MN is not the real world. I still see tons of people wearing fascinators at weddings.

makingmyway10 · 11/08/2021 10:49

@Amima does not mean they are good though Grin

Snoopsnoggysnog · 11/08/2021 10:52

Is it a church wedding OP?

I noticed from the pictures of Ant McP’s wedding last week that none of the guests wore any kind of headgear Shock is it all just not done anymore?

I haven’t been to a church wedding for a while. I’m going to a wedding this weekend but it’s outdoors and quite a casual vibe so not going to be wearing a hat.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 11/08/2021 10:52

@BlairWaldorfLovesShopping love that!

Flyinggeese1 · 11/08/2021 11:01

Amima agree! The last wedding I went to (my brother in law’s) had a very young crowd as the bride was 23 and had lots of her friends there. So many of the guests wore fascinators and looked fantastic.

It was a very fancy wedding with well dressed guests and fascinators are definitely not over!

bellabride · 11/08/2021 11:20

Oh, I was Mother of the Groom just over a week ago, and wore a fascinator, as did many of the other guests, of all ages.
It was on a headband, so that I could easily do it myself.

bellabride · 11/08/2021 11:21

And during my search for the perfect headwear, I discovered that something that's between a hat and a fascinator is called a hatinator.
Future DIL was amused by that one.

ExpressDelivery · 11/08/2021 11:23

In my world the only people who wear hats of any sort to weddings are the mothers of the B&G. Very unusual to see "ordinary" guests wearing hats, even at quite posh dos.

gogohm · 11/08/2021 11:42

Never worn a hat or variation to a wedding, hate hats

Elouera · 11/08/2021 11:50

I never knew fascinators were out! I normally wear one, unless its a very casual wedding.

I've only seen a full hat on mother of the groom/bride too.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 11/08/2021 12:17

I don’t think hats are the done thing at weddings near me anymore - they haven’t been for a few years. My MiL bought one for our wedding but didn’t wear it, as nobody else was planning a hat. Even the very posh weddings I’ve been to haven’t had any headgear.

Perhaps it’s more regional now? Or maybe people just don’t like wearing fascinators and the like - I work with a lot of wedding venues and can’t remember seeing many in photos from recent events; either.

Me too! Maybe it depends on location? I picture the 23 year old's posh wedding mentioned above as being somewhere like Liverpool or Essex, where they seem to get much more dressed up for nights out and events, like the races.
miltonj · 11/08/2021 12:25

My wedding was only a couple of months ago and I loved seeing people in fascinators. It was only members of my family though, not regular guests.

Flyinggeese1 · 11/08/2021 12:34

Blair you have a point! Cheshire. ‘Footballer country’. Perhaps more of a tendency to get dressed up.

towers14 · 11/08/2021 12:38

I'm going to wedding tomorrow and I'll be wearing my new fascinator. Hadn't realised they were out🤷‍♀️ who gives a shit?

Stanlie · 11/08/2021 12:47

Nothing. Just hair

ajandjjmum · 11/08/2021 12:58

My hat for a wedding on Saturday arrived today, and I'm thrilled with it. As DD is with hers - although she's never worn a hat to a wedding before. We're just all SO excited to have this to look forward to, and have enjoyed planning our outfits so much more than normal.

Flyinggeese1 · 11/08/2021 13:16

I bet! I’d love to be attending a wedding and would definitely wear a head dressing of some kind. Probably a headband fascinator
If I’m honest.

HoppSuisse · 11/08/2021 16:56

I really like it, but I would consider that a fascinator (and I like them) so am probably not the best person to judge!

Durbeyfield · 11/08/2021 17:59

I’ve seen many people wearing hats at weddings whether Mother of Bride or Groom or guests. Pretty much always look fantastic. Jewelled headbands are a nice alternative.
