If fascinators are out for weddings what is in?

I have a fancy wedding to go to next month, and have my outfit all organised apart from headgear.

I keep reading on here that fascinators are over, so what should I wear?

I love hats but they trash my curls.

What about an embellished headband?

Any advice much appreciated 🙂

@Scarby9

I was at a wedding on Saturday in the north of England. Church wedding with reception at a country house. 80 people. 3 fascinators (all shades of pink councidentally) - the bridegroom's mum, sister and aunt's partner. Everone else was bare-headed. Also, only one bridesmaid and one guest had high heels. The others wore completely flat or up to no more than an inch heels.
Ooh I could do a regional survey as I have one wedding down south and one a few days later up north...

I was at a wedding in Newcastle this weekend and there were quite a lot of fascinators. I wore the hatinator that I wore for my son's wedding 2 weeks ago.
Sometimes you just need an accessory to finish off an outfit to make it feel like a special occasion. We've had precious little opportunity for an excuse to dress up in the last 18 months.

I was at a wedding on Saturday and apart from the bride and groom's mums, there was I think one woman wearing a hat, no fascinators in sight (approx 100 guests, church wedding in the South).

First wedding today. South East. Young bride (25). Fairly posh. Will report back...

I was torn between thinking exactly that, but also feeling slightly uncomfortable and out of practice at being all dressed up.

I thought everyone wearing headgear looked lovely though.

Weddings are special days and do warrant something extra. I just felt my sparkly hair clips were as far as I felt comfortable on this occasion.

We missed the next wedding due to covid, but I'll see if I can borrow or hire something appropriately special next time.

Interestingly, two out of the three fascinator wearers at the wedding I mentioned above live on Tyneside.

See that you do.

Outfit news from weddings is so interesting.

I could definitely understand people dressing up more in these current times even though that's not my own instinct.

StCharlotte · 26/08/2021 09:43

Right. Approx 80 guests. Fairly young crowd. Non Church wedding.

Three "hatinators" - two very large for mothers of bride and groom, one more modest (that was me, I'm just an aunt Grin).

One actual gorgeous hat worn with the most beautiful dress. Young woman.

Four fascinators.

Several sparkly clips Smile

Surprisingly no hairbands.

Some really gorgeous dresses and it was just so lovely to see people having a good time.

As an aside, hats are very good for social distancing!

I am attending a wedding in the autumn, wearing a red fitted bardot style dress and this - which I shall now refer to as a Hatinator!

So a good sprinkling of something other than just bare heads then?

I'm surprised about the lack of hair bands too.

Apparently literally every woman I know has an array of headgear I can borrow so I just have to decide which dress I'm wearing, and I too can join the hatinator crew. Grin

That is very cute.

Ooh ooh! Bonus wedding to report on! (at hotel I'm staying at for a wedding)

Bride and groom about 30
Maybe 40 guests
Non-church
North East but not as far up as Newcastle
One hat - in early photos, suggesting MOTB
Lots of fascinators but rather small
Two embellished hairbands - get in!

Love the MOTB detective style deduction.

Thank you for the report. I have one more wedding to go to this year, that we know of. I need to know the "new rules".

Loving the concept of a " bonus wedding." 😁

shallIswim · 30/08/2021 17:38

Cotswold wedding at the weekend. Around 70 guests. One fascinator, one hat - mothers of bride and groom. Plus a random hat on one other. But she seemed rather embarrassed about it
Overall I was quite surprised at the casualness of the guests' garb.

I expected better of the Cotswolds. Have they no standards?
shallIswim · 30/08/2021 18:54

@StCharlotte ahhhh but is that where the guests hailed from....? I won't give that away!

It made me want to stake out the local church on stuff at and get my own. Grin

Right. Final wedding. Apologies in advance for any typos, I'm tired and emotional...

Location: Northern England country house hotel.

Bride and groom mid 50s.

Second wedding for bride.

Approx 50 guests.

Four fascinators.

A couple of sparkly clips.

One hat(inator) - me. Many compliments Smile

Even bridal party had no headwear.

In conclusion: it appears fascinators are out. Boo.
