If fascinators are out for weddings what is in?

I have a fancy wedding to go to next month, and have my outfit all organised apart from headgear.

I keep reading on here that fascinators are over, so what should I wear?

I love hats but they trash my curls.

What about an embellished headband?

Any advice much appreciated 🙂

Either a hat or don’t bother
Go big or don’t go at all

towers14 · 15/08/2021 11:29

@GraceMelbury
No hats either, I was quite surprised.

StCharlotte · 15/08/2021 19:52

towers14 Was it a church wedding?

MidlifeMinou · 15/08/2021 19:55

I love weddings and I love hats. I show my appreciation by wearing the biggest hat I can find - Four Weddings and a Funeral style! :-) … fascinates are far too subtle for me …

Mantlemoose · 15/08/2021 20:08

Your dress is really lovely and if you're aiming for quietly classy, just have your hair and make up done well if you don't want to wear a hat. A fas/hatinator really will cheapen it/any outfit

Wexone · 15/08/2021 21:12

here in Ireland it's quiet common to wear a hat or boatinators as someone called them to a wedding. every women would be wearing one. there are lots of milieners and you can easily rent one for 20 or 30e. very few will wear a fascinator. I personally hate them. I would go for the headband option or find a local person who will hire you one to match your outfit and shape of your face

It was a civil service in a restored Monastery.

Recently wore one of these to a friends wedding;

Although, they sent me the Damson colour when I’d actually ordered grape, but it still went with my outfit so I didn’t do anything about it in the end.

I saw a lot of people going to a very posh wedding yesterday, the majority of the women were wearing fascinators.

JudithGrant · 16/08/2021 18:05

I'd wear a jewelled comb, something like this.

Me too - loads of hats and fascinators on Saturday. I think partly down to the end of lockdown though - we were all so thrilled to be attending an 'event', and went to town on outfits etc. Made for a fantastic wedding.

A more discreet (not too many feathers and what not) fascinator is fine if that's what you prefer Smile but you could also opt for a great hair do or a wonderful hair accessory. Think of it like going to a fancy party.

That’s great!! Have a wonderful time :)

There is an ebay shop that sells hatinators in every colour.

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143097876577?var=442056246708

They are jolly pretty

fruitbrewhaha · 18/08/2021 10:52

The blonde lady modelling them is the maker I believe. If you see a particular flower on a different hat etc I think you can ask her to make one up for you bespoke.

BaronessBomburst · 18/08/2021 10:58

I love it!

ExConstance · 18/08/2021 11:04

I don't go to many weddings but when I do get an invitation I have a look on ebay for a worn-once designer hat, I've had some amazing ones for hardly any money. We are an unfashionable provincial family and you certainly need to wear a hat if we have invited you!

fruitbrewhaha · 18/08/2021 11:07

Oh I didn't see you had already bought one OP! Whoops

choli · 18/08/2021 11:14

Perhaps it’s more regional now?
I usually associate fascinators with "try too hard" irish wedding guests.

keffie12 · 22/08/2021 20:22

They are now called "Hascinators" so part hat/part fascinator. Yup mix of the two 🙄

OnionsAreToxic · 23/08/2021 08:41

I bloody love fascinators! Hope they're never 'over'

Scarby9 · 23/08/2021 08:54

I was at a wedding on Saturday in the north of England. Church wedding with reception at a country house.
80 people.
3 fascinators (all shades of pink councidentally) - the bridegroom's mum, sister and aunt's partner.
Everone else was bare-headed.
Also, only one bridesmaid and one guest had high heels. The others wore completely flat or up to no more than an inch heels.

StCharlotte · 23/08/2021 08:59

@HundredMilesAnHour

I was invited to a US wedding and was bereft when I was told hats aren't a thing for weddings

You should have worn a hat anyway. I went to a US wedding and wore a (huge) hat. I was the only hat wearer - and the only non-US female guest - but everyone LOVED it. It meant that everyone wanted to talk to me and by the end of the reception, I can safely say that every person there had tried on my hat and had their photos taken wearing it. Years later, the bride still talks about my hat. Grin
