I've been using Lily Lolo mineral foundation for years, and in general, I love it. However, as my skin ages, I've started to think that a mineral foundation is not my best choice. My skin is getting drier and the foundation tends to sit in fine line and make my skin appear even more dry, especially round the eyes.

So, I think it's time for a bit of a refresh and to look for a liquid foundation, which scares me slightly as I've never used one! I really need recommendations of good brands to try. I'm planning a trip into town (large high street, couple of dept stores) so I can try samples.

I'm looking for something with a medium coverage. I have freckles and also patches of hyperpigmentation so I want something that will cover the hyperpigmentation (though I do use concealer too) without getting rid of all my freckles.

You can never go wrong with Mac studio fix foundation.
Nars sheer glow or radiant long wear foundations are both lovely (although I have very oily skin so didn't last for me, but may be really good for you given you have drier skin)
I'd also highly recommend Lancôme Teint Idole - good for all skin types.

If you can grab samples from dept. stores I'd definitely try those if you can!

Clinique Even Better, it apparently helps clear up dark patches. I've not noticed this effect yet but I don't wear it daily. My skin is normal to dry. Freckles too. I've also got the Even Better Glow. I use Estee Lauder double wear concealer too, the one with the serum at one end to help with the lines under my eyes, where I'm particularly dehydrated.

Kittyswhiskers · 10/08/2021 15:18

I like number 7 beautifully matte. I also rate most of their other foundations.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 10/08/2021 15:19

Watching with interest as I found exactly the same with previously loved Bare Minerals.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 10/08/2021 15:22

I went from Lily Lolo to EL Double Wear. I don't find it heavy or drying and covers beautifully , I apply it with a buffing brush.

iwannascream · 10/08/2021 15:50

I have been a minerals fan for years but since my roseaca got worse and I hit bloody menopause, it just wasn't working for me. I gave Wunder2 www.wunder2.co.uk/collections/face/products/go-beyond-foundation a try as its a mineral foundations but in a compact if you know what I mean. OMG its amazing it gives coverage without feeling cakey and stays on all day, at the grand old age of 52 i'm having compliments on my lovely skin Smile

ComeonJulia · 10/08/2021 15:51

Estee Lauder double wear. Hands down the best IMO. I wouldn’t go near Mac, far too cakey for me. I’m 30 and I love makeup and I’ve never found a Mac foundation or shade that compliments me.

HetHetHet · 10/08/2021 16:04

I was using Lily Lolo powder foundation until recently (China Doll) having got fed up of MAC Studiofix oxidising.

I tried Nars and quite liked the Sheer Glow and the tinted moisturiser was ok too, though still not quite right.

Instead, I'm now using a very cheap liquid foundation, my first ever liquid and I love it - Sleek Lifeproof (LP01). It's buildable, very naturally coloured on me and dries quickly so doesn't need powder on top unless you want it. I would totally recommend it though I never would have even bothered trying it if I hadn't received a tester.

marmaladehound · 10/08/2021 16:05

NARS sheer glow or radiant. I made the switch as I was getting older and it's fab! Have slightly dry skin and is very moisturising and has a very natural quality to it which i like

BradleyCooperwillbemine · 10/08/2021 16:49

I used to use Lily Lolo and still touch up with it now, but like you find it a bit drying. I use and love CYO Lifeproof foundation which has been great, but is now discontinued - damn it. I would recommend No. 7 Hydraluminous - perfect in every way, except I am allergic to the SPF. If you aren't, then I would give it a try. I liked NARS Sheer Glow, but found it neither sheer nor glowy and takes a bit of work to blend.

DirtyDancing · 10/08/2021 16:59

Channel Vitalumiere all the way for me. Silky, moisturising and good coverage. Perfect with a spray of Mac Prep Prime + Fix over the top

cookiemonster5 · 10/08/2021 17:01

It cosmetics cc+. It's not a cc cream despite its name. It's medium to full coverage. Amazing natural finish plus it's waterproof so a winner all around. Im going to replacing most of my seasons colours with this foundation.

ThorIsAGod · 10/08/2021 17:12

I like no 7. Pre covid they did a skin match thing and tried different foundations on me which was brilliant.

I use their factor 50 one which I really rate

bobandhisburgers · 10/08/2021 17:15

I ditto No.7 Beautifully Matte. I've used it for years and it has great coverage for blemishes without hiding my freckles. Also builds well to cover big red spots. They do a non matte version too but the colours are ever so slightly different to the matte. I have dry skin but have found the matte still works well for me. It's only £16 a bottle too I think.

NotMyCat · 10/08/2021 17:29

No 7 hydraluminous is nice

Katefoster · 10/08/2021 18:57

I switched from Estée Lauder double wear to Nars long wear and I absolutely love it

Potatoy · 10/08/2021 19:56

No 7 hydroluminous. Which isn't overly luminous.

alloutofcareunits · 10/08/2021 20:03

No7 hydra luminous, beautiful finish and doesn't settle in my lines. EL double wear was like wearing a dry matte mask on me

Potatoy · 10/08/2021 20:05

@alloutofcareunits same here, my skin felt really dry after

alloutofcareunits · 10/08/2021 20:11

@Potatoy it made any wrinkles look ten times worse yet my friend loves it. I'm sure they do samples the OP might be able to try

MissMatty2hats · 10/08/2021 20:16

After wearing ELDW for years I suddenly felt it looked too heavy, settling in fine lines and feeling a bit mask like. I tried No7 hydra luminous after recommendations on here and I’m completely converted. It blends so easily and looks so natural. At the same time I stopped putting any makeup under my eyes, no eyeliner, no bottom lash mascara, nothing. I’ve had several customers ask if I’ve “had something done”. I’m never going back, it’s taken years off me! Even my teenage dd told me my skin looked really fresh.

Superfoodie123 · 10/08/2021 20:18

Il makiage is incredible. Would recommend

MercedesBenz · 10/08/2021 20:34

Hydraluminous no7 boots
Lovely finish , med coverage £15
Is a really nice foundation

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 10/08/2021 20:55

Hydroluminous was dire on me, aged me 20 years!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 10/08/2021 20:56

I switched from Estée Lauder double wear to Nars long wear and I absolutely love it think I'm going to try and get a sample to try.
