Recommend me a new foundation please!

I've been using Lily Lolo mineral foundation for years, and in general, I love it. However, as my skin ages, I've started to think that a mineral foundation is not my best choice. My skin is getting drier and the foundation tends to sit in fine line and make my skin appear even more dry, especially round the eyes.

So, I think it's time for a bit of a refresh and to look for a liquid foundation, which scares me slightly as I've never used one! I really need recommendations of good brands to try. I'm planning a trip into town (large high street, couple of dept stores) so I can try samples.

I'm looking for something with a medium coverage. I have freckles and also patches of hyperpigmentation so I want something that will cover the hyperpigmentation (though I do use concealer too) without getting rid of all my freckles.

Il Makiage is fabulous

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor
That’s a pity , there are lots of recommendations for it on mumsnet , and personally it makes
Me look ‘ healthy’ even when feeling dire

Lndnmummy · 10/08/2021 22:14

I think I’ve tried most foundations going. Clinique even getter glow all the way for me. It’s magic

OrangeBlossom28 · 10/08/2021 22:35

I really like NARS radiant longwear and Illamasqua skin base.

DoubleShotEspresso · 10/08/2021 22:40

Laura Geller powder foundation is second to none and buildable but luminous. I've never found anything close.
Also a new fan of Il Makiage liquid foundation, just effortlessly blends, looks like skin and last all day.

Go onto QVC U.K. and see what they have.

I think it’s Doll 10 that’s on special (called today’s special value or TSV) until midnight tonight.

Under £40 for a foundation, brush, lipstick, blush.

They have lots of different brands though. And the beauty is 60days to try it and send it back (whatever is left of it) if you don’t like it. All you lose is the postage both directions.

Nillynally · 10/08/2021 22:42

Mac face and body, it's thin but buildable. It gives a lovely dewy finish

WeeYellaDug · 10/08/2021 22:46

I use YSL Touché Eclat foundation and love it.

Littleguggi · 10/08/2021 22:46

I went from mac to double wear and now use Pat Mcgrath and I am obsessed!

Lots of recommendations for foundations which can only be bought online. How do you ensure it's the right colour? I only bought foundation. online once and had a bad experience so that has put me off

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 10/08/2021 23:33

These recommendations are based on medium coverage with bit too glowy or matte

Smash box hydrating foundation is fantastic as a middle if the road no nonsense
Nars sheer glow but it isn’t glowy
Too faced born this way
Maybelline dream cover
Slightly pricey but Armani luminous silk
L’Oréal true match

There's a couple of sites that recommend based on other foundations you own Findation is one of them

For me, I know I will be the palest cool toned shade and I google for swatches (Reddit is helpful for this)
I buy nearly all my foundations online

Trinny London - Fabulous make up; highly recommended

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 11/08/2021 11:08

Thanks all, loads of great suggestions! I'm definitely not able to buy online, so the plan is to hit up Boots and see if a No 7 one does the trick.

Another vote for Hydraluminous.

stilllovegeorge · 11/08/2021 17:45

I really like Mii skincare. My local salon stocks it. Think you can contact them to find a stockist.

nocciola · 11/08/2021 17:50

I'm freckly too, with a bit of hyper pigmentation and love Laura Mercier skin perfector-tinted moisturiser spf30 also the only brand I have found to be a good match for super pale skin. Natural looking, can still see my freckles and you can build it up to cover where you need it.

Golddiggatwins · 11/08/2021 18:19

I use Laura Mercier tinted mosituriser! Get lots of compliments!! Xoxo

Ohms11 · 11/08/2021 19:55

I am another no 7 fan. I like the factor 50 protect and perfect foundation, but also get on well with hy superlight foundation.

NanaRant · 11/08/2021 20:10

Switched to Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk after YEARS of Estee Lauder Double Wear and Light Double Wear (life-long acne sufferer)
. Is the best foundation I have ever used. Worth every penny. You can buy little samples on e-bay - so you are not forking out until you have decided on your shade.

I don't understand the double wear hype. I thought it was rubbish. I like kiko milano foundation and I like some nyx. The expensive foundations I have found are no better.

smith5715 · 11/08/2021 20:23

The ordinary foundation, really cheap. I got it just to try as it wasn't expensive and it's my favourite by far!

WellTidy · 11/08/2021 20:38

If you have dry skin, Estée Lauder double wear may not suit you. I say this as a lifelong Estée Lauder user and a huge fan, but it is awful on my dry skin. Really cakey and dries my skin a lot.

Laura mercier tinted moisturiser is not medium coverage, it is light.

I have dry skin, freckles and I’m 46. I live Clinique even better, ysl touche eclat foundation and I am going to try boots hyperluminous next.

I would like to try the Armani one recommended (something silk?) but I always forget when I’m in one of the big department stores that sell it.

Damsel · 12/08/2021 06:54

The By Terry hyaluronic foundation is lovely, especially mixed with a couple of drops of their Brightening CC serum. For a splash out, their Eclat Opulent foundation is superb but very expensive. Space NK stock the brand.

Also Armani Luminous Silk is a lovely foundation & great range of shades.

Good luck with your research!
