Is this dress awful?

Bought on a whim for a present for my dm birthday.Its shirred at the bottom part which you can't see in the pics.Its a brighter purple too.
She likes "different" stuff and hates dressing "old" she'll be 69 in 2 weeks.

Yes it’s awful but my MIL who has rather “different” tastes would love it so horses for courses

Very pretty. If it’s her style, she’ll love it. I’d love to wear something like that but my boobs are too big ( and South Facing ).

I'm in 2 minds tbh.It genuinely looks better in real life though

I really don't like it. It looks a bit like a nightdress to me, with those thin straps.
So awkward to wear unless you have tiny boobs as your bra straps will show.
She might like it though 🤷

It's more Boho in real.life iykwim it's below knee length and a bit billowy.

Does she normally wear dresses or tops with spaghetti straps? Lots of older women prefer something they can wear a bra under, and maybe a bit more covered up. But if you think she'd wear it, then fine, it's a nice colour.

Yeah it’s awful. I am not against loud prints at all but it looks a bit tacky somehow. Maybe it’s just a bad picture.

It's not a nice dress. My similarly aged mum would not wear it.

I think it's awful. And although I'm about 15 years younger than your DM I wouldn't wear something that strappy. It does your arms/bingo wings no favour at all. I hate sleeveless dresses.

She does wear spaghetti straps sometimes.tbh I was thinking of her wearing it abroad or with something over her shoulders.

Sorry, but I thought this too. It looks like nylon, and she'd get static everywhere she walks.

If its her style, then fine, but for me, I hate spaghetti straps as can't wear a bra, detest animal print and hate purple even more.

If you tell us what she is into, colours etc we might have recommendations.

It's quite something!

But if you have reason to think she'd actually like it then asking here becomes a bit meaningless. How about giving it to her with big caveat of: "I really couldn't make up my mind about this, but decided I'd let you make the final call, and if it's a no we'll choose you something else together. Please don't be polite, I'm genuinely happy to return it and go on a shopping spree!".

And make sure it's not her only present so she has something else to enjoy in case it's a flop.
