Bought on a whim for a present for my dm birthday. Its shirred at the bottom part which you can't see in the pics. Its a brighter purple too.
She likes "different" stuff and hates dressing "old" she'll be 69 in 2 weeks.

I’m a couple of years younger than your mum and I might wear it on a beach holiday over a swimsuit. It wouldn’t cover my bra straps and I’m too old for showing bra straps to be a thing!
It’s a really kind thought though to buy your mum a dress, I dread to think what sort of dress my 3 adult sons would choose for me, my 3 year old observant granddaughter would choose much better!

DietrichandDiMaggio · 05/08/2021 20:24

Can you link to it online; I think it's easier to see the style on a model. I prefer it to the Bravissimo one, which is very dull.

DoubleTweenQueen · 05/08/2021 20:35

Hmm - depends on what she looks like! Her colouring, build etc.
Would look nice with a similar (purple) colour cashmere-ish cardi?

Slip dresses not easy to pull off, unless she still has a great figure :)

Craftycorvid · 05/08/2021 20:47

Hm, I’m not a fan. Love a bit of animal print but I don’t think that style and colour works with that pattern. Weirdly, the print actually makes the dress look slightly ‘old ladyish’ in spite of the style. Depends on her tastes though. If I wore that, I’d probably tone it down with a khaki coloured jacket or something.

Still horrible! If something looks awful on a model then sure as hell it’s going to look twenty times as bad on a “real” person.

DottyHarmer · 06/08/2021 08:31

Also, is your mum in the UK? There is no way she’ll be able to wear it without a thermal vest, cardi and an anorak!

catfunk · 06/08/2021 08:36

Yeah I think so (because of the lilac) but if she would like it then go for it

Ikeameatballs · 06/08/2021 08:42

I don’t like it.

It’s the colour rather than anything else. I really don’t like lilac.

The style is very on trend and the spaghetti straps wouldn’t put me off as I’d just wear a black bra and let the straps show or strapless bra or black tight fitted t-shirt underneath.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/08/2021 09:09

It’s awful, sorry.

As an aside, people criticising clothes by saying that they are ‘old ladyish’ can fuck off.

It's even worse on the model than on the hanger.
Bagelsandbrie · 06/08/2021 13:23

I actually like it. I think I must have dreadful style because I genuinely dislike most of the things other people seem to recommend on here Blush everything always seems too tailored / stuffy / sort of thing I would wear if I worked in a smart office type stuff. I like fun, bright stuff. I guess the fact we’re all different is what makes the world go round!

SmallPrawnEnergy · 06/08/2021 13:40

I think it would look nice with a fitted tee underneath, a belt and chunky sandals / boots. May not be your mums style though. The dresses others have posted are bloody hideous. S&B boards / MN fashion is absolutely not for me though, too rigid and boring. That bravissimo dress had me howling, it’s “different” because it’s purple GrinGrin

MrsCremuel · 06/08/2021 13:41

I like it but imagine it in someone in their 20s with chunky DM sandals or something?

fuckingsickofcovid · 06/08/2021 13:45

I think it's nice, but I wouldn't wear what most people like on here, they're just not my taste, so maybe I have a bad taste in clothes 😅😅

Yep my thoughts exactly.
KimikosNightmare · 06/08/2021 15:13

The Bravissimo dress was boring but so is this monstrosity. It looks exactly like the sort of cheap, nylon tat you see on outdoor market stalls.

Oddbutnotodd · 06/08/2021 16:46

Just no. Don’t like any of them. The Bravissimo is a bit too workwear and the Quiz one is a bit young I think. I’m over 60 myself and I wouldn’t wear any of them.

CallMeNutribullet · 06/08/2021 16:54

I think it would look green on a waif ish 22 year old with a white tshirt under and a pair of DMs... but generally it's awful

Jerseygirl12 · 06/08/2021 17:01

I think it’s ok and would be handy to wear on holiday.

MintyGreenDream · 06/08/2021 17:16

Dm messaged me and said don't get me anything to wear for my birthday please I've got far too many clothes Confused

So I've told her I've got her something she may or may not like and I'm taking it back if she doesn't like it.
I've booked a meal out too.

I think it's the sort of thing older women of a certain type would wear it it's a bit Bet Lynch for me. I bet she wasn't actually old, was she, but I was young?.

borntobequiet · 06/08/2021 17:40

Not quite purple but inspired accessorising

Is this dress awful?
nodogz · 06/08/2021 17:42

I'm 42 and would wear that. With a T-shirt underneath and a biker jacket. It's a bit of a specific look which is marmitey. Boots in winter, chunky sandals in summer. My mum would wear it too.

As long as it's not too expensive isn't it worth taking the chance? It's nice to be gifted something different.

Birkie248 · 06/08/2021 17:46

@Galassia

It’s the sort of thing that ‘fag ash Lil’ would wear on a Grab a Granny night or the Christmas ‘Do’ at her local Bingo hall.
Oh my ... this is brutal!

What’s old ladyish about purple @BiscuitLover09876 ?!
