BIG (perfume) day for me!
My first ever set of fragrance samples has arrived in the post! Surely a perfumista milestone?
I've only ever sniffed scents instore before, that was my main way of discovering new things. Anything niche, I just blind bought if I thought I'd like it, it usually(!) worked out OK.
Today, I tried: MM By the Fireplace and Floral Street Chypre Sublime.
MM By the Fireplace: I was very eager to try this as I'd heard such good things on here about it. They were all true! It took a few minutes to get going, which had me slightly worried, and then this beautifully smooth, rich woody/smoky fragrance wafted towards me. Slightly spicy, almost imperceptible vanilla, but I can tell its there, creating this gently warming aura, making the fragrance cosy and linking the notes together. I must say, I think this is a very well blended scent, there are no rough corners and no single note stands out, they all mingle to create this single snuggly accord. This does, indeed, make a great comfort scent, and I have fallen in love. It's a bit like having the basenotes (which sometimes can be the best part) of a perfume as a whole entire scent, and it's works.
Definitely a new love, and FB worthy, although I think the price is a bit £££. Oh well!
Floral Street Chypre Sublime: I had quite high hopes for this, as chypres are one of my favourite fragrance families, after Ambers and Orientals. To me, this is not a chypre at all, but a floral. All I get is a (albeit very nice) jammy, green rose. From beginning to end. No nuance or progression. Not what I was expecting and a bit underwhelming. Where is the patchouli, incense, or labdanum? Or the softening touch of benzoin? Maybe fragrantica has the wrong notes. This would make a very good rose fragrance, though, but I don't think it's for me.
