madam - I especially liked the Shalimar Vs Opium face-off and the Sylvia Plath references.

Fear I lack stamina and adequate cultural reference points Grin

Yes, totally agree, great blog @madamceladon. Was reading your post on shalimar vs opium last night, two of my favourite fragrances! Also loving all the cultural references. Smile

Oops! Just realised I cross posted with MrsR. That'll teach me to read the thread properly and not post when I'm a hurry.Blush

Thanks both so much for the feedback, I'm so glad you liked it! I've not really circulated it much yet beyond Facebook so it's really nice to have some outside eyeballs on it instead of only writing for myself. Please do sign up for the email alerts if you'd like.

I really enjoyed researching and writing the shalimar v opium one, as the myths around both and the ad campaigns are so OTT and ridiculous.
Blogging definitely is a bit of a commitment, I only manage a post every couple of months if I'm honest but hoping to speed it up and fit more in.

SOTD Monotheme Vetiver Bourbon, for a day at the hospital. Bit chilly here this evening, may have to choose something a bit cosier for later.

Inspired by Madam, SOTE is Shalimar. I love the complexity, richness and sheer comfort of this, like a veil of spicy-vanilla softness, but can understand it's not for everyone. I've never tried any Paloma Picasso scents, but often think I would like them, especially as they seem to have complexity, which is something I adore in fragrances. No one-note 'light' perfumes for me. Maybe I should give her a go. Gosh, haven't seen The Witches in years.

SOTD Chanel 19. Courage for being back at work after six weeks off.

Report
FragrantlyScent · 18/08/2021 00:54

The last time I smelled Chanel No19 was years ago, but I remember how grown up, elegant and put-together it made me feel. I distinctly remember the green opening, but can't quite recall the heart or base notes. I seem to have the idea it was slightly powdery? May be wrong, though.

Hope your first day back at work went well, Judy. Smile

SOTN is Prada - L'Eau Ambre. i picked this up dirt cheap in savers because the box is a bit battered. its lovely and soft and comforting. Ive not been around much as im havign intense therapy atm and its realyl dragging some stuff up and i dont like to trauma dump to people who arent quailified to handle it!!

As for dupes, i dont mind them as long as they arent copying the whole thing. i dont see how smells can belong to anyoen in particular but bottles and packaging etc can so as long as they arent trying to fake a whole direct copy, i dont mind them . Im the same as soemone else said, iw ouldnt buy fake bags or clothes, id rather go without but i think smells are soemhow different and tbh, even the very best copies of fragrance are always slightly different imho

I'm sitting here trying to work up the courage to get ready for a f2f yoga class. I've only ever done yoga at home via YouTube videos 😬

My brother has got covid (he went away last week to whitby and thinks ge got it there) so mum will be beside herself. Sigh.

Flowers, chocs and anything else comforting (perfume) for @OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack Prada L'eau ambree looks fab. Amber is very comforting.

Hope your brother feels better soon. @Artdecolover.
Your yoga class sounds good. It will probably be fab when you get there.

I miss testers @FloraMacDonald. No stores around here put them out anyone. I would definitely go crazy too.

Im also wearing Chanel 19 today @Judystilldreamsofhorses!
Job interview this afternoon. Wish me luck. It's beautifully crisp and refined and green.

Sorry to hear of therapy and trauma @OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack. The trouble with good therapy is it stirs everything up and you can feel worse before you start to feel stronger. Hang in there.

@FragrantlyScent I would def try Paloma Picasso, it is really affordable and is such a varied and engaging scent.

SOTD Invisible Ben 4160 Tuesday. I put this on first thing but topped up just now. I can hardly smell it and it's pretty inoffensive but also nothing in particular to like. Just a sample and won't be buying a bottle.

Oh I'm so fed up of it @OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack
I've got a choroid nevus but sadly it's caused a retinal fluid leak right in my central vision so can't have laser therapy as it would burn out my macula.
Happened just before 1st lockdown so getting it looked at/tests was very stressful.
I'm now under Sheffield Eye hospital as I have to have scans every 6 months.
It's sore, but there is no point going to Dr even if I could get through so I'll see what the optician says Tomorrow
I have a feeling it may be a referral to the local eye clinic who were pretty rubbish last year :(
Just heard Sean Lock had died - very sad news.

ohhhh,y ou cant be too far away from em then if youre under Sheffields eye clinic!! Im a sheffield girl born and bred Grin but yes, eye problems absolutely suck, mine are unexplained though very apparent and they just keep monitoring me because they dont know if it will deterorate more or stay as it is

I'm an hour away:)

But the local eye hospital is 30 mins away and a bit rubbish so not too bad

The main issue I have is frustration that someone else always has to take me because of the eye drops 😫😬

I rather like invisible Ben but it's not very strong for saying it's 20% sandalwood!

@Artdecolover, hope your eye is better soon. Flowers

I also found my local eye hospital rubbish and couldn't wait to be discharged, because my opticians wouldn't deal with me while I was under hospital care. The optom at the hospital was very nice to talk to, but rather ineffectual, she would just prescribe lenses without even checking if I could see through the glasses! Consequently, I had glasses like the bottom of a Cola bottles, and they were vv expensive, but completely useless to me. This must have happened three or four times. The Moorfields eye hospital was great though, so maybe the big regional hospitals are just much better/more skilled.

Good luck for tomorrow. Flowers

SOTD YSL Libre.

@madamceladon I hope the job interview went well?

Sorry to hear of all the 👀 problems. Do we need a new Venn diagram?

I had a bloody migraine today. Being back staring at a laptop all day after six weeks of holiday is no good. We are doing “blended learning” this semester, so I will at least have some time on campus when the students are back.
