Couldn't see a new thread?
Hope this one is OK!

@alwayscrashinginthesamecar1

I'm new to the thread, and wonder if you lovely perfumistas can help me out? I am looking for a perfume with a beachy smell, but I just haven't found the one yet! My ideal would smell like an Australian beach on a hot summer day, but I realise that's a bit specific! So, I'm not really looking for fruity or coconutty, just more salty, ozoney and maybe a bit herbal. Does such a thing exist? Any recommendations gratefully fully received.

Hello 👋
Hmmm. Those type of scents aren't really my thing but hsve you tried mmm replica beach walk or Heeley sel marin?

@alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 Welcome! You're in the right place.

Try:

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess
MMM Replica Beach Walk
Lady Million Fabulous (solar, sunny, beachy)
Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt
Jil Sander Sun
Kerosene Walk The Sea
Avon Tahitian Holiday (very coconutty)
Molton Brown Coastal Cypress and Sea Fennel

Hi @Always.
Yes, I think James Heeley's Sel Marin is the closest one to your brief. It's the best seaside scent I've ever smelt. Jo Malone Sea salt & sage os the smell of an autumnal British Beach, but a dupe of this by Jenny Glow is stronger and virtually identical to my nose.

Goldfieldfield & Banks are an Australian perfume company with a beach perfume that may be worth a try.

Atelier des Ors do a couple of ocean inspired ( though more Riviera) perfumes that I really like - Riviera Drive & Pomelo Riviera that are worth a sample. Profumum Roma and Italian brands are worth investigating too.

(Formerly a regular on these threads) I thought some of you might like an enabling nudge... today, the perfumes Jo Malone has done for Zara are on special offer at £18 for 100ml. I need a summer-y citrus, so have bought Citrus Meze and Bergamot and Leather, completely unsniffed. Fingers crossed, but interested to know if any of you have tried them out?

There you are! Was happily chuntering away to myself about Shazam! and hippies and White Queen and incensed carbohydrates Grin until rescued by Fragrantly - thank you.

Sorry to hear about your Mum, Mrs08. Hope her recovery continues to be swift. It isn't Ambre Sultan by any chance - there's a 70s patchouli note they have in common?

Hi Xing - welcome back. That's a good tip off. I like Citrus Meze the best out of all of the ones I've tried. Solid citrus, bright and aromatic, siting on a pleasant laundry musk. Good summer staple. Not so fond of Bergamot and Leather - bit more going on, but not in a very coherent way on my skin. Will be interested to hear what you think. Anyone tried the rose one?

SotD is Scherzo. Cheapest way of trying this was to by a fragranced tattoo pen on eBay - so I now have attractive black scrawling all up my arm Hmm - trying to imagine the design meeting at MH. Anyway, as you lot probably already all know, Scherzo turns out to be exactly the pretty rose oud her notes on Fragrantica suggested she might be (and that so rarely happens!).

Scherzo makes me think of muscat grapes, NR and Passage D'Enfer for some reason. Of the F Scott Fitzgerald pair (and what an interesting duo they are), I much prefer Tender, who is such an unconventional beauty, with her green vegetal notes and velvety inky-saffron. Duchaufour strikes again!

Inspired by Fragrantly's compelling description, I am redoubling my efforts to find some Aramis Devin.

Devin is supposed to be similar to Estée Lauder Aliage, MrsRLynde, but as I haven't smelled Aliage I don't know if this is true. I got mine very cheaply from < whisper it > Amazon. If you're after vintage though that's obviously no good. Smile

And, I agree, please keep chuntering. 😁

I personally love hearing everyone's thoughts on different fragrances. When you all paint pictures with words (am I mixing metaphors here?), I feel I get a better sense of the scent than I would from just a simple note pyramid. It sort of brings the perfume to life, so that I can almost smell it around me (in my imagination, obviously), which is the next best thing if I haven't got a sample or bottle. Part of the fun is wondering what a perfume will smell like, and finding new favourites that I wouldn't have tried (or even have known existed) without you all sharing your knowledge (I was a lurker before I started posting).

(am going to stop rambling and get ready for bed now.) 😊😴

@MrsR I'm glad your Mum is at home & recovering nicely. Your stress-induced buying sounds like fun however.

I'm feeling completely uninspired by my perfumes at the moment. I've bought a couple of secondhand ones and they don't seem to smell the same as my memories ☹️

I also don't know what to wear in this sudden wet cooler weather.

Glad your mum is home Mrs08. Smile

The weather here (London suburbs) is really strange. I'm actually snuggled under a blanket at the moment (🙈), as its quite chilly and damp.

I tend to reach for bitter green, earthy scents or fragrances with a richer floral note when it's rainy during the summer, as I feel they match the cooler weather, when it's not actually cold cold. Also fragrances with that petrichor note, or something ever so slightly powdery when I want to feel safe. However, I'm a big amber/vanilla fan and it doesn't take much for me to bring those out when I need something really comforting or warming, although I try to keep them for autumn/winter. I'm currently on a quest to find the perfect summery amber.

@fragrantlyscent Have you tried avon timeless? Lovely ambery chypre. £5 a bottle.

If you can get any EL youth dew Amber nude thats a beautiful light Amber.

If you haven't got any I'd recommend 4160 Shazam! :) lighter version of LADDM imo and lush:)

@Fragrantly I had already sprayed myself with some vintage Private Collection when I'd read your post. I love the bracing bitterness of it. @MissBattleaxe Dryad is stunning, but the fern note in it doesn't like me as it goes from stunning to stinky. For want of a better turn of phrase 😊.
Are there any more bitter green pungent perfumes? I really want to sample Providence Moss Gown but they don't ship to the UK.
Tobacco Rose is a good call. Of course with the Oakmoss & Ambergris. It's one I often forget to wear for some reason.
