How much lip filler for a first-timer?

KhalliWhalli · 27/07/2021 06:31

I am booked tomorrow for lip filler as my lips have got very thin as I’ve got older. May I ask those of you who have had it, how much you would recommend? The options are 0.5 ml and 1 ml.

Thanks.

Oh also drink plenty of water. Much easier to inject hydrated lips.

@brittleheadgirl
Who says I'm not interested?

No one. Try actually reading my post that you quoted

I'm extremely interested in a procedure that makes a women's face look so odd and keen to identify why on earth someone would do it to themselves. I'm afraid the unnatural looking photos shared on here haven't helped my feelings about the procedure!

Yes it's very clear that you're very interested in policing the choices of strangers on the internet. As I said, it's weird Confused
I don't expect anyone is particularly interested in your feelings despite your determination to share them

And please don't try and dress it up as being about a 'women's choice'

Well thank goodness you're here to tell us which of our choices are appropriate and police our looks. That's definitely what feminism is about Hmm

Look in the other direction. The porn industry, pressures social media, influencers etc might be a good starting point.

Yes they very likely do influence societal beauty standards. FYI there's a specific feminism chat discussion for such topics - feel free to start a thread. S&B isn't the appropriate board for it and it's poor MN etiquette.

@NoCureForLove

Ah. Women with different opinions. Always annoying...
Totally fine to have a different opinion. Rude to judge and police someone else's choices when they've not asked you for your opinion.

See the difference?

I have no interest in gardening. I wouldn’t go on the Gardening Board telling them not to plant flowers.

And I wouldn’t go onto the Conception Board and tell a woman deciding whether to have 1 or 2 children, not to have any at all.

If you have no interest in lip fillers, then don’t open a thread about lip fillers. Simple.

OP posts:
NoCureForLove · 27/07/2021 14:57

But I do have an interest. And an opinion. Hence my post.

Mackiemackie · 27/07/2021 15:22

I think @HeyMicky looks really great.

Most movie stars, pop stars, TV stars etc have had some kind of work on their faces. Too much filler can look strange, agreed, but the right amount can look amazing.

Good luck OP. I haven't had any myself (yet) so can't advise but I hope whatever you have done, you love it. And if not, it doesn't last forever anyway.

KidneyBeans · 27/07/2021 15:25

You don't have an interest in lip fillers. You have an interest in policing the choices of strangers on the internet and sharing your irrelevant personal preferences that do not answer the question asked.

Odd that you can't see the difference.

BordelDeMerde · 27/07/2021 15:30

Can I ask, when you have fillers, how long does the swelling last?

I love your lips, @HeyMicky!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 27/07/2021 15:45

@NoCureForLove oh bore off Biscuit

OP I think .5 is good advice and maybe the same a few weeks later. Less is more and all that. I'm seriously toying with doing the same myself, more to blur fine lines forming around my mouth though.

@HeyMicky interesting to see how swollen they are immediately after, how long did that last for? They look great in the first pic, v natural.

HeyMicky · 27/07/2021 16:51

Swelling was gone by the next day

More generally, I would suggest following a few instagram accounts for injectors near you to see what they do and what the results look like. If they tag their clients then take a look at them at them weeks later too. That will give you an idea of recovery time and outcomes

KhalliWhalli · 28/07/2021 18:59

I’m back! Yay! I took your advice and went for 1 ml. It looks a bit wonky. Is that normal?

OP posts:
Bellyups · 28/07/2021 19:04

Yes that’s normal. Give it 2 weeks for ALL swelling to go

Janaih · 28/07/2021 19:05

Yes that's normal don't panic. Ice and ibuprofen and keep hydrated.

KhalliWhalli · 28/07/2021 19:12

My top lip seems to have a lot more in that than my bottom lip.

OP posts:
whatthejiggeries · 28/07/2021 19:15

Post a pic

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 28/07/2021 19:23

‘Bore off’ is such an infantile response.

It’s a public forum and, like it or not, fillers are polarising. The pressure on (mostly) women to be ‘better’ via tweakments is becoming more and more commonplace. People are going to have an opinion.

For what it’s worth, I’m not a fan and see so many bad jobs (and @HeyMicky, whilst yours are absolutely on the more ‘natural’ end of the scale, the upturned vermillion line does give it away. You may not care & I agree my opinion should be irrelevant to you. Only mentioning as you put the photo online, ITMS?).

I’ve also seen so many bad jobs where the filler (which is cross linked and therefore immovable) is injected into the wrong place. Hence trout-pouts and bulbous lips.

As a result, I'd advise you go for the lowest amount possible.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 28/07/2021 19:25

Oh goodness! I misread the date…!

Apologies OP. Do post a photo though of you want. But don’t of you don’t!

KhalliWhalli · 28/07/2021 19:32

@charliebear78 How did you go?

OP posts:
Suzi888 · 28/07/2021 19:45

So tempted as feel mine have shrunk, now I’m older. I had a consultation and they advised 0.5ml -I was too nervous so cancelled! Blush I’m worried about where they might put it, why do some people seem to have a ridge and others don’t? Is that technique or preference….

KhalliWhalli · 28/07/2021 19:53

@Suzi888 Waht do you mean by a ridge? At the border?

OP posts:
YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 28/07/2021 19:56

OP, it’s the raised vermillion border I mentioned. An upturned ridge on the top lip. It’s the instant giveaway. Someone people do have it naturally (Rosie WH for example) but it was SO rare as to be cherished. When it’s natural, it’s beautiful. When it’s injected, it’s obviously so…

KhalliWhalli · 28/07/2021 19:57

@YellowandGreenToBeSeen I agree actually. The lady who posted her pic on this thread didn’t have that and her lips looked lovely.

OP posts:
YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 28/07/2021 20:02

Without wishing this to be about the poster who posted photos, I can see an upturned line / unnatural volume at the Cupid’s bow.

But if that what was requested, all good for her.

charliebear78 · 28/07/2021 20:04

I had mine done today at 3.
I had 0.5ml put in my top lip, I hardly felt a thing but now the numbing cream has worn off I feel a bit tingly and sore.
They are a bit swollen, so will be interested to see how they look once healed.
Even with the swelling they still look natural to me.
I was scared of the shelf look-So told her I did not want that, I think it depends on how much you have injected.(and I had the least I could)
How are you feeling @KhalliWhalli
