How much lip filler for a first-timer?

KhalliWhalli · 27/07/2021 06:31

I am booked tomorrow for lip filler as my lips have got very thin as I’ve got older. May I ask those of you who have had it, how much you would recommend? The options are 0.5 ml and 1 ml.

Thanks.

@charliebear78 Ignore the trolls! Are you happy with the procedure? How much did you have? I’m thrilled with mine Grin.

I'd love before and after photos. I'm a scaredy-cat but think this would suit me.

‘Assert my unasked for response’

Hmm. Interesting concept on an unmodified & public forum that encourages debate.

KhalliWhalli · 28/07/2021 22:29

Oh do go away @YellowandGreenToBeSeen. This is a very informative thread and you are spoiling it with your ridiculous posts. We get you do not like lip fillers. Fine. Leave the thread. Find a better use for your time.

I worked for 3 years in a salon doing lip fillers ( I was working on a completely different job in the same building). I have seen so many people with fillers. My very best advice is to take it very slowly. Have one at the lowest amount possible and see how you feel after a few months later. So many times people would be unhappy afterwards and not be able to do anything about it.
They can look OK but more often they look unnatural which is fine if you don't mind but it might perversely make you look older.

Capricornandproud · 28/07/2021 22:41

@NoCureForLove

But I do have an interest. And an opinion. Hence my post.
You are one arsehole of the highest degree.
Capricornandproud · 28/07/2021 22:44

I’d be so tempted…. How long would the effect of 0.5ml last for?

ArabeI · 28/07/2021 22:46

@Pinchoftums Sorry! Hope you don't mind my asking if bruising is commonplace after the fillers and how long any swelling takes to subside.

Horehound · 28/07/2021 22:52

So after you have it done you have to go around with swollen, unnatural looking lips for two weeks?!

crabbingbucket · 28/07/2021 22:55

I had 0.5 and liked it at first but after a week I wanted more. Left it 3 months and got 1ml and loved them

crabbingbucket · 28/07/2021 22:56

1ml is unlikely to make your lips look odd and 0.5 almost certainly won't as long as it's a good practitioner

Those you see on reality tv/ Katie price etc have had tons

PropertyFlipper · 28/07/2021 22:56

None. Have a look at the blogger slash Instagrammer Eimear Varian Barry for what happens when good lips go bad. Not a great look.

Pinchoftums · 28/07/2021 23:11

@ArabeI I'm not really an expert but from what I saw not everyone bruised, around 20% of people maybe. A few badly but many not at all. But it was obvious on many people (about 70%) that they had had work done.

Suzi888 · 28/07/2021 23:14

@KhalliWhalli not the border/outline of the lip, as such (like lip liner) but above that. Like they’ve filled around the lip I suppose Only seem to see it with top lip and not on everybody. Love Island’s Faye has it, whereas Heymicky doesn’t.

ArabeI · 29/07/2021 10:20

Thank you @Pinchoftums

I follow a beauty salon, you see, who recently posted an 'after' lip filler photo where there was significant bruising present. I think they possibly said that had been done in the 'Russian' style (I think that's the one where it's injected differently to emphasize the cupid bow area), hence more likely to bruise.

I find it interesting anyway!

charliebear78 · 29/07/2021 10:26

@KhalliWhalli I had 0.5ml and it really doesn't look too much different though they are swollen and bruised at the very corners(so only noticable if I pull my lip up to look)
Do you have a sort of white line on your skin at the top of the lip?
I do and am hoping that it fades away with the swelling and bruising.
I am tempted to have a bit put in my bottom lip now
(I can see how it becomes an addiction with people wanting and getting more and more)
I hate hate the look of almost every reality stars overdone lips so I know I wouldn't go that far but I can understand how it happens.
Once swelling reduced I will pop a pic on..

Janaih · 29/07/2021 10:46

People like Kylie jenner, Jessie from little mix etc have about 5ml built up and regularly topped up to maintain it. You won't walk out looking like that on 0.5 or 1ml.
First time I had 0.5 and another 0.5 2 weeks later, no bruising and minimal swelling. Second time (about a month ago) I had 1ml all in one go. Did have slightly painful swelling and bruising for 3 days. Looked liked Id been punched in the mouth. But hey, if face coverings are good for anything, it's covering your lip filler injuries Grin

ChequerBoard · 29/07/2021 10:57

What happens when you stop having fillers though? Over inflated lips won't be fashionable forever.

One of the Love Island contestants has said that she can't stop having filler in her lips even though she knows they are overdone because when she had the filler dissolved, her lips looked wrinkled and flabby. I think her description was that her lips looked like an old mans ball sack.

crazycatgal · 29/07/2021 11:07

@ChequerBoard Faye from love island has had a heck of a lot of lip filler though. That isn't comparable to the OP getting 1ml.

I'm sure Faye started with .5ml too. That's what happens with "filler fatigue" where over time, the filler stretches & weighs down the skin, which means you need more filler the next time, which in turn stretches the skin & tissue more.
