No sign of Kate so here's a dodgy royal connection for you this morning......if it helps, my friend and I were discussing her appearance and saying how shabby she looks next to the other cruise ships in port!

I like that you travel in style, frugalkitty!
Pictures in the Daily Mail (yes I know) of Charles visiting Lerwick fish market. Love the socks. No sign of Cams.

Yes. Definitely prefer the legs on Charles.

You know what I'll post Wink

What! Aren't we going to give Charlie's knees a squuueeeze? Wink Wink

Charlie is wearing the Rothesay hunting tartan at Lerwick there I think. He's known as the Duke of Rothesay when he is in Scotland.

Maireas · 01/08/2021 17:46

Good ID on the tartan, Ada. Do we think he has a mobile phone down his right sock? A packet of chewies?

Charles never looks quite at home in a kilt does he? He's a three-piece suit man for sure. Has William ever donned a kilt on his Scottish visits? We all know Kate loves a bit of plaid but I don't recall him ever kilting up.

AdaColeman · 01/08/2021 18:31

I seem to remember photos of Wills & Harry in kilts when they were boys. It must be a summer hols at Balmoral thing.

There is a room at the top of a dark tower there, where Morag, an ancient retainer, wraps the young (and not so young) laddies in yards of tartan after ceremoniously stripping them of their Calvin Klein boxers!

The Duke of Rothesay title is an ancient one, held by the heir apparent to the Scottish throne. It had fallen into disuse, but was revived by Victoria for use by her son when in Scotland. So Charles as heir apparent now uses the title.

MotherofPearl · 01/08/2021 18:58

I could only find this. Nothing of William (or Harry) as adults in kilts.

MotherofPearl · 01/08/2021 18:59

Wait.

Are those Mary Janes Charles is wearing with his kilt in the photo with W & H?

Maireas · 01/08/2021 19:08

Indeed, MotherofPearl. With a bow on the front. Confused
Since they were boys, William and Harry have wisely avoided kilt wearing. I'm hoping that the royal practice will die out. It's a strange thing to do - we're north of the border, we'll dress "Scottish" Hmm

Eaumyword · 01/08/2021 19:30

Well I'll go to the bottom of our stairs - how can Mary Janes be a thing with a bloke wearing a kilt?!
I've always assumed brogues would be worn?

Maireas · 01/08/2021 19:40

A quick search of kilt shoes....

Mostly brogues come up on the search, but I've found some ghillie shoes

I'm afraid those kilt shoes aren't my favourite. I agree brogues are the best option.

AdaColeman · 01/08/2021 20:15

The Scottish version of espadrilles!

Maireas · 01/08/2021 20:16

Indeed! At least he was wearing brogues in Lerwick...

DH (and most men I know) wear the kilt shoes with the criss cross laces (ghillie brogues)but never tied up the leg, just around the ankle. I can honestly say I've never seen a man pair his kilt with Mary Janes. I think ghillie brogues are considered more formal so evening wear or wedding party. For daywear, plain lace ups would probably be the norm. I prefer the trend of showing a bit more leg with chunky boots and slouchy socks. Maybe Kate could suggest that to William should he ever feel the need to don some tartan. And also Kate, if you're reading this at that point could you hide the fleeces and woolly pullies or he will look like Archie the Inventor.

Maireas · 02/08/2021 14:51

Thanks, @chesterelly, interesting. I like the ghillie shoes, tying round the ankle is probably a bit more practical. When I was in Edinburgh i saw men wearing hiking type boots with the kilt, paired with a sweatshirt or rugby shirt, which I think looked good.
I'm laughing at the Archie the Inventor look ! Grin

Leti looking super glam at the Mallorca film festival. This is a skirt and top rather than a dress, according to the info on NMR. It certainly drapes beautifully. I rather like the gold shoes for evening - old school glam!

I love that blue silk with gold shoes. Gorgeous. Very elegant.
I think they spend each summer in Mallorca.

RomainingCalm · 02/08/2021 16:45

That's a gorgeous outfit on Leti, I wish I could look that elegant.

Agree about the kilt with boots and slouchy socks being a good look for sporting events. DP tends to wear the formal brogues with the ties for weddings/dinner parties etc. When DSs were small they had kilts with the Jacobean shirt and looked very cute. Now they are older they quite like a pair of tartan trews for formal events.

Maireas · 02/08/2021 17:37

Leti's top and skirt are Galcon Studio - the top is €119, the skirt €129, so not high end. The shoes are Magrit, a brand she wears a lot. The sling back adds to the elegance I think.
