Asked for blonde, got ginger again.

My hair is dark brown and grey. I've been trying to go blonde for 3 years and achieved a good colour prior to covid most of the time. I have foils.

My last hairdresser didn't do a good job last time and it was really warm and gingery. Just tried a new hairdresser and it's even more golden. What's going wrong? Am I being unrealistic? I'm asking for ash, bright blonde.

Roots look shit too.

You may be being unrealistic- ask the hairdresser, they might be able to do a 2nd bleach and then tone it

She promised no warmth or yellow. They all do. I've had toner put on. I don't want it redone yet as I'm worried about it snapping off.

I'm not sure you'll never get ash bright blonde from dark brown hair. Light ash brown might be closer to bring achievable

MoltonSilver · 09/07/2021 17:30

That looks way better than I was expecting from your description! It's not bad at all.

Carrott21 · 09/07/2021 17:31

Thanks. I did have a lovely ash for a few times, but since covid it's really gingery. Wonder if growing such long roots with the hairdressers shut ruined it.

Not what you are asking but it looks lovely from the side pic and not gingery at all x

WhereDidIGoNext · 09/07/2021 17:32

That’s not gingery!

Barwell76 · 09/07/2021 17:33

That looks very blonde and not ginger at all.

pinkcattydude · 09/07/2021 17:33

Have you got a dodgy mirror no hint of warmth

Carrott21 · 09/07/2021 17:33

Look at those roots! Looks about a month in, not a day!

Going blonde is a process. It should take a couple of salon appointments to get your desired colour.

Blueskytoday06 · 09/07/2021 17:34

It doesn't look ginger from the photos anyway. Roots could be better but are definitely not awful.

MoltonSilver · 09/07/2021 17:35

I agree with you about the roots but the rest looks good.

Miseryisabutterfly · 09/07/2021 17:37

You don’t look ginger!

PrincessConsuela12 · 09/07/2021 17:38

I had my hair dyed recently, went from brown to 'blonde' however some parts are orange so I've been using a blue shampoo and it's lightened some of the orange

steakandcheeseplease · 09/07/2021 17:38

You need to find a hair dresser that is brave enough to big chunks of foils and go for what your asking.

Ive got dark blonde hair naturally but like it much lighter. My old hair dresser just went for it and I loved it. Then she stopped doing hair and ive found some one else, that I like but she wasn't brave enough to do what I wanted at first.

Me - Can I have a full head colour
HD - no lets put lots of high lights in, it will look like a full head colour
Me - hmmm I'm not sure I really like this picture here and ive had it before..
HD - Honest trust me, it would look really light..

2 hours later...

Me - I love the cut but it still a bit dark at the back...
HD - when you come back in six week only need to a half head
Me - why when I want it a full head
HD - honestly it will build it up it will make it look lighter

six weeks later

Half head done -

Me - I love the cut but its still dark a bit at the back
HD - when you come back in six weeks we can do a full head
Me - Hmm

You should absolutely be able to get to platinum from that colour

Get some good quality purple shampoo and conditioner which will take any brassiness out although it looks very blonde to me. I like Bleach London Silver or Smokey.

Janaih · 09/07/2021 17:41

That looks very blonde and ashy to me! Not at all ginger.

BumCat · 09/07/2021 17:44

It’s not gingery. But with the base colour you have you shouldn’t have any trouble getting ash. They are either not leaving the bleach on to lift to the optimum level or not using the correct toner. Probably a mixture of both.

BumCat · 09/07/2021 17:44

The front certainly looks like it may have been washed off prematurely.

Carrott21 · 09/07/2021 17:46

I think it's hard to get the light to show it properly.

@steakandcheeseplease are you me?? I'm sick of having the same conversation over and over again. I know my last hairdresser gave me olaplex and peroxide and it was great. She then reverted back to muddy blonde. I just don't really understand it all.

I do use fudge purple shampoo.

Doesn't look ginger to me!
She could have done it closer to your root.
Did you have a toner put on?

Carrott21 · 09/07/2021 17:49

Yes a toner. Apparently a mix of 3. Can somebody in the know give me a script of what to ask for next time please? I'll screenshot it!

Thanks for all the comments. There are about 4 ginger streaks at the front alone. Without those it might be more tolerable.
