Garment steamer... My life has been changed

I figured you lot would appreciate my excitement! I'm awful at ironing... Like absolutely shocking!

Bought myself some summer dresses and established after the first wash that they are unwearable without an iron! Also discovered that dd's school dresses need ironing.

this arrived today and my life has been changed forever!!! How have I got to 34 and not realised that such a thing existed?!

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for clothes steamer recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best clothes steamers page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful.

Interesting. I hate ironing!

Ticklemycarpets · 04/07/2021 21:11

I'm not an ironer either.
Are these a lot less hassle?

Nobranothanks · 04/07/2021 21:23

God yeah. By miles! I'm OK at ironing if it's a t shirt or square with no pleats or shape haha and must be in the mood however that's rare and most things aren't.

I have no iron at the moment because I got the hump and threw it 😂

As per my OP none of my summer clothes look OK without an iron (I've just discovered) and my daughter is now old enough for school dresses which defo do not look OK without an iron wwhich is why I bought this and It really has blown my mind and I'm probably quite clueless in regard tto how you use iit properly. I just hung the dresses in the back of the door and swiped at the from the middle outwards and it seems to have worked!

My steamer has changed my life, I detest ironing and I’m terrible at it so being able to steam clothes in moments is a dream.

HandsSpaceArse · 04/07/2021 21:34

I bought similar but it was so s .. l .. o .. w ..

Is thus one speedy enough to do a pile of ironing?

HandsSpaceArse · 04/07/2021 21:34

Nobranothanks · 04/07/2021 21:44

@BangingOn it's awesome isn't it!! My OH was pissing himself listening to me talking to it and telling it how wonderful it is 😂

@HandsSpaceArse erm imot the best one to ask tbh. A wash basket of ironing takes me about 3 hours. If I have a smock style dressor anything with a pleat etc in this will take me aaaaages to iron.

I did a very creased cotton smock dress in 3 mins with the steamer. Daughters school dress literally took a minute so for me it's sooooo much faster!!!

I am with you op, I love mine. Don’t iron - never did - a steamer is great though

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 04/07/2021 21:54

I discovered magical spray which de wrinkles clothes. It's a game changer.

Nobranothanks · 04/07/2021 22:01

I'll have to have a look - I hate ironing. But also hate looking like a crisp packet!

You can't leave that post there and not tell us what it is!
alrightfella · 04/07/2021 22:18

I bought some Lenor crease releaser spray this week but I've not actually tried it yet. Thought it could be good for when I forget about the school uniform!

GalaxyGirl24 · 04/07/2021 22:21

I discovered a garment steamer last month and I now can own sophisticated shirts! It's a game changer.

I seriously refuse to do any ironing that is not high level essential, like job interview or v v special occasion. Any other cleaning or chore is fine just not ironing 😅

Balaur · 04/07/2021 22:24

This is seriously tempting me.

Aquamarine1029 · 04/07/2021 22:27

I've been using a steamer for over 20 years and I honestly have never understood why more people don't use them. It's not like they are some great secret, they've been around forever.

Walkingtheplank · 04/07/2021 22:31

Is there such a thing as a cordless steamer?
And what sort of plug do the corded steamers have?
The sockets in our bedroom are all at one end but if the corded ones worked from a 2 pin bathroom socket, that could work.

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 04/07/2021 22:34

I have an even cheaper version. Its like a travel kettle
I haven't ironedfor over 10 yrs. I shake and smooth and use the steamer if I have to.

mostprobablyyes · 04/07/2021 22:35

Which one have you got @Nobranothanks ?

DukeofEarlGrey · 04/07/2021 22:36

I shouldn’t read these threads. This steamer (and elusive spray, once revealed) is going straight on my Mumsnet-made-me-buy-it list.

imacuddler · 04/07/2021 22:38

I have one too! Don't iron or even a steam much.
I think they are kinder to clothes that would get a shine when you iron them.
I found it didn't work well if you need to iron down turned up hems on the bottom of my trousers so keep the iron for that.

MerylSqueak · 04/07/2021 22:43

I want to know what the spray is too!

Phoenix76 · 04/07/2021 22:50
