Garment steamer... My life has been changed

I figured you lot would appreciate my excitement! I'm awful at ironing... Like absolutely shocking!

Bought myself some summer dresses and established after the first wash that they are unwearable without an iron! Also discovered that dd's school dresses need ironing.

this arrived today and my life has been changed forever!!! How have I got to 34 and not realised that such a thing existed?!

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for clothes steamer recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best clothes steamers page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful.

Any chance you could repost the link please - the one in this post doesn't appear to work?

I have this swan brand one - £35 but might be codes about for 20% off if you have a search

Deathraystare · 31/07/2021 07:13

I have one but have not used it yet. But it has got to be better than my ironing attempts!

I once did some ironing while mum was out. She came back and ironed what I had just ironed........

Is it any good? I've seen an Instagram influencer put codes up for this one and considered it
ElaineMarieBenes · 31/07/2021 09:11

I bought a cheap one from Argos after reading this thread (£25 and said to be best value steamer!) - and yes much better than ironing so thank you 😊

ElaineMarieBenes · 31/07/2021 09:13

I now want the Sabi one too!

Rollerbird · 31/07/2021 21:13

I've just ordered this one www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01MTYPC1H?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I used to work in a charity shop and really wanted a steamer when I saw how fresh they made clothes look. The one they had was the size of a vacuum cleaner but after reading ti's thread I'm so pleased to realise that portable ones exist!

Promptly bought myself one from Argos yesterday and I've already used it, to get rid of shop creases on various items. Love it!

Chocolateteabag · 01/08/2021 18:29

@JamieFrasersSassenach - it's the only one I've used and it's been good so far
I think the professional ones with more powerful steam will also be good but £££ but for a quick 3min go over of an outfit it's sooo useful

Mumski45 · 01/08/2021 19:06

Thank you all for the links. I have ordered the Philips one from Amazon and it should arrive tomorrow. Looking forward to having a go with it.

Neondisco · 01/08/2021 19:08

My steamer has changed my life too.

Rollerbird · 01/08/2021 20:36

Just used mine for the first time.
I LOVE IT
I will definitely be wearing more of my wardrobe now
Just steamed 2 shirts I hardly wear because I can't be bothered ironing

Rollerbird · 01/08/2021 20:37

I don't normally iron t shirts
Just steamed one. It's ridiculously quick and makes it look so good!

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 01/08/2021 21:07

The brand of the one in the OP was Dodocool and it was from Amazon. I know because I ordered it Grin it looks like it’s no longer available.

Milomonster · 01/08/2021 21:35

Great thread. I can’t be arsed with ironing and this looks great. How do these cope with hard water?

Mumski45 · 03/08/2021 06:24

Wow. Tried out my new steamer last night and I think it's fab. I really didn't expect it to work as well as it did. I ended up getting right to the bottom of my ironing pile in about half an hour.

It's definitely a keeper and will be handy for use on DD's wedding day morning when everyone arrives here with their fancy outfits.

.

bongbigboobingbongbing · 03/08/2021 07:59

I ordered the Swan one and it's great! Thanks to whoever mentioned it.

@Milomonster if you're in a hard water area (I am too) you're mean to use filtered or bottled water in it.

MissKittyKitty · 03/08/2021 09:28

Aldi and Lidl sometimes have them in their aisles of tat. I bought one from there years ago and use it daily.

Danielle8p · 03/08/2021 11:35

@ElaineMarieBenes what one did you get please?

noenergy · 03/08/2021 11:44

The link isn't working.

Which one is it?

HmmmmmmInteresting · 03/08/2021 11:46

Don't diss the aisles of tat- there are some amazing bargains to be had! Grin
