What can I wear on my legs that aren't jeans?

I can no longer wear jeans. A blood/skin condition is getting worse and anything that slightly rubs against me hurts. I've had jeans on today and I'm covered in hives Sad
Leggings don't hurt but I'm short and fat so don't wear them out of the house. I look terrible in joggers and chinos make my legs look like sausages. I also can't wear a belt as it gives me hives. I have a couple of pairs of Jersey wide leg trousers which are OK.

I like dresses/skirts with trainers when I'm wanting to be a bit smarter, but I don't know what to throw on when I'm running around to clubs, on school run etc.

I would love some ideas for soft, casual clothing that will look OK on a size 18 short arse!

Culottes, tapered trousers, cropped trousers?

Notaslimshady · 03/07/2021 22:41

Like these?

Linen or linen/ cotton or linen/ viscose mix trousers? In summer anyway. There seem to be loads about with elasticated or draw string waists and straight or wide legs.

Eleoura · 03/07/2021 22:45

I too was going to suggest loose, linen trousers. I got some from asda! I've got full length, also 3/4 ones. Cheap, comfortable, but can be dressed up or down with tops and different shoes if needed.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 03/07/2021 22:47

I like the idea of cropped trousers but they never seem quite cropped enough on my stumpy legs so I think I look a bit odd in them! The navy tapered ones could work thank you, I never think to look in Evans I always think of it as being middle aged. I am 46 so I'm not sure why I consider that a problem Confused

I've tried linen but unfortunately they rub a bit too. Its a shame as I quite like the wide legged ones but after a couple of hours I find they rub around my waist.

Sorry I know I sound awkward I'm utterly fed up of normal clothing being uncomfortable! I wore a linen dress with short sleeves at work recently and the edges if the sleeves against my arms caused hives 🙄 If I could live in pyjamas that would be perfect

midi skirts with trainers in summer and DMs in winter?

katplva · 03/07/2021 22:54

Harem trousers can be very comfy - tapered at the bottom to give a bit of shape but very loose otherwise. Like these:

Or loose culottes are great for the summer too. Thought clothing have some lovely ones

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 03/07/2021 22:55

Go for midi skirts. I don’t wear trousers much at all- not comfortable for me. Love a floaty midi skirt with a white pump or natural leather sandal. No prep on legs needed.

Gillybobs · 03/07/2021 22:56

Boden harems are lovely and soft (and not baggy despite the name). Saint and Sofa do lots of lovely jersey ponte trousers that look smarter but are v comfortable to wear. Some are definitely smart enough for work wear.

Flippetyflipok · 03/07/2021 22:58

Bamboo trousers? I've got a few pairs, very lovely and soft, including some dashka trousers from Thought, mine came up big, @but feel like a dream! www.wearethought.com/women/breathable-bamboo/?product_category[]=Trousers

EnglishGirlApproximately · 03/07/2021 23:00

I do like skirts with trainers and have a few, maybe I just need to get more. I really want pockets though!
I'll check out the harem options and the saint and sofa- it isn't a brand im familiar with at all.

I was also going to suggest hareem trousers with the cuffed bottoms. I’m 5ft 0 and they’re never too long. You can get some lovely soft material too.

FindingMeno · 03/07/2021 23:01

Harem trousers or bootcut " leggings".

Branleuse · 03/07/2021 23:02

Wide leg linen sumner trousers.
Loose cotton trousers - lagenlook /gudren sjodren style

EnglishGirlApproximately · 03/07/2021 23:06

Ooh I like a lot of the Saint and Sofia clothes, definitely my style and I'm jersey too so should be soft enough.

I think I need to try some hareem trousers on. In my head I think of MC Hammer which isn't helping me to like the idea Grin

Jersey dresses with trainers/Birkenstocks. Comfy, easy to wash, nice and soft

I’m younger than you and used to think the same but I’ve gotten some lovely things from there.

How about something like magic trousers, inexpensive and not as restrictive as jeans - such as these, some other loose styles here too. www.susiesboutique.co.uk/collections/trousers-1

AttaGirrrrl · 03/07/2021 23:19

I’m glad you posted that @fitflopqueen

Wtf are magic trousers? I keep seeing them on Facebook.

Cocolapew · 03/07/2021 23:20

I have these and they are really comfy. Very soft and don't rub anywear, plus I sized down and they fit perfect 🥳www.matalan.co.uk/product/detail/s2825141_c211/linen-tapered-joggers-green

I looked at these in a shop this week and they were sooooo soft

Er, get skirts with pockets then? Grin
Nervousdave · 03/07/2021 23:22

I have magic trousers and they definitely rub, mine are a little scratchy too! Might not be your style, but I love these dungarees with a plain white/black tee underneath. Comfy and slouchy but not leggings 😊

I don’t wear trousers much as they are uncomfortable for me. Stretchy jersey midi skirts and dresses are fine for what you need to do in my view.
