Is this a suitable outfit for summer wedding?

I am going to a wedding in a few weeks and cannot find a dress I like so I'm leaning towards a top/skirt combo. I know black isnt really the done thing for a wedding but can I get away with it as the skirt breaks it up a bit?
Would appreciate any input!
Also I'm not tall just average, top is just an example of the bardot style I like Smile

Appreciate the input everybody!

@Graphista the ceremony is taking place in a country house, same venue as the breakfast etc

Other Stories is usually my go to for dresses, alongside H&M and Mango, I usually live in black so I think this is why I'm finding the hunt so hard!

Looks a bit too casual to me but again it depends on the type of do it is and how casual and relaxed the wedding is.
Definitely not for a church.

Atalune · 25/06/2021 20:34

Yes. You’ll be in al the pics! Something to bear in mind.

I went to a wedding a couple of years ago and one of the women wore the most amazing statement dress. It was a silver batwing wrap dress. And now it looks like fancy dress in the photos!

Classic is definately a good watchword.

Atalune · 25/06/2021 20:35

Get the Reiss dress! Grin so elegant. Send us pics!

I love that dress x

Graphista · 25/06/2021 20:36

LOVE that second one of yours waterlane

But I am big into 60's/70's styling anyway

That sounds fairly formal op. Big do? Lots of planning gone into it?

If you're usually in black I can understand why you're having difficulty. I'm guessing these aren't you're usual styles too?

Navy and cream is a classic combo that skirts the black faux pas while not taking you too far out of your comfort zone or even a dark chocolate brown and cream combo.

What kind of style do you usually wear?

Let me go browse you're preferred retailers which I'll admit I'm not familiar with all of them and see what I spot

Blabbyblab · 25/06/2021 20:36

That's gorgeous @Graphista but I cant wear white or cream can I?

OP posts:
Mossymossy · 25/06/2021 20:37

Will you wear a hat/fascinator? That might make the first combo more chic?

Graphista · 25/06/2021 20:38

The Reiss dress could work but I would recommend a cover up of some kind at least for the ceremony.

Anything from a formal jacket to a cardigan a shrug or a wrap could work well.

Eleoura · 25/06/2021 20:40

Sorry, but all the posts look far too casual IMO. Esp as your OH will presumably be dressed up in a morning suit/formal wear, I wouldn't want to be wearing a sarong! I'd always go for something more structured and lined. If you wore that black top, take a pashmina/shawl if it gets chilly or if its a church wedding.

Graphista · 25/06/2021 20:41

You can't wear solid/only white or cream but white zone colours are ok as a base. If you were worried again you could wear a cover for the top half during the ceremony

You could pick out the cornflower blue in the dress I linked and wear a jacket etc in that colour. I think I would go with a wrap with that dress draped asymmetrically

DingleyDel · 25/06/2021 20:44

I agree that it’s way too casual for a country house wedding where your partner is best man. I also think block black is a bit of a faux pas at a summer wedding. I have a wedding in August and I absolutely hate dresses, very rarely find one I like that suits me. I’ve just order 2 from nobody’s child and I love them both. Maybe worth a look? They definitely had some black background but floral type prints that I think would be acceptable if you like dark colours.

Blabbyblab · 25/06/2021 20:44

I love love love that scarlett dress @waterlane, definitely a toss up between that and the Reiss one so far Grin

Yes it has been postponed twice @Graphista due to Covid, and yes lots of planning! I usually wear Jean's, t shirts and cons, with the odd Lucy and Yak dungarees thrown in, I have a DD who is two so I'm usually covered in food and mud Grin

Blabbyblab · 25/06/2021 20:48

Thanks @DingleyDel I will have a look!

OP posts:
Blabbyblab · 25/06/2021 20:51

@AdriannaP oooh the first one is really nice! Is it too bridesmaidy?
I will have a look on there too, thankyou!

Cleverpolly3 · 25/06/2021 20:55

I love this dress.
It is statement but not too try hard. A nice length, not low cut but also got an edge.
If you’re a size 8 it will look fantastic. There are a choice of colours but the wine red or the blue I think would be lovely

Graphista · 25/06/2021 20:55

Ahh op bless you! It's hard to work out what to wear for such occasions when you're in toddler freindly gear mostly!

Sounds like the bridal couple have had a tricky time too so it's nice to make the effort for them.

Graphista · 25/06/2021 20:56

The powder blue could look too bridesmaids BUT it's in how you style it. Add some navy and bronze or gold accessories and again a wrap or similar and it could be perfect

waterlane · 25/06/2021 20:58

@Blabbyblab

I love love love that scarlett dress *@waterlane*, definitely a toss up between that and the Reiss one so far Grin

Yes it has been postponed twice @Graphista due to Covid, and yes lots of planning! I usually wear Jean's, t shirts and cons, with the odd Lucy and Yak dungarees thrown in, I have a DD who is two so I'm usually covered in food and mud Grin

I might order it myself, I've not seen it on their website before! Could easily be dressed up or down too. Love the shape of the Reiss one but you'd need a jacket I think as it's a formal occasion and it's strappy
Graphista · 25/06/2021 20:58

I meant the strappy powder blue

That shocking pink one is also stunning you would look amazing in that op and you could wear black or silver accessories with that you'd likely wear again?

Graphista · 25/06/2021 21:01

What's your colouring op? That can lead to some ideas too eg cleverpolly3's Dress also comes in a gorgeous dark green, that would be perfect for me (redhead, peely Wally freshly skin Grin)

waterlane · 25/06/2021 21:02

I just got this from Zara and it's so nice on and feels very luxe as it's a gorgeous drapy satin fabric. I'm wearing to a christening with a smart little Chanel type jacket from river island but could wear with flats or wedges for a more casual vibe so it's v versatile

Graphista · 25/06/2021 21:03

The royal blue of that dress would look amazing if you're dark skin/hair colour.
