Cams at my absolute lifesaver of a hospice. Frankly I don't care what she looks like while she here. Just glad she's supporting Helen and Douglas house. But miffed I missed my invite!

Fergie has written a novel! Clearly cashing in on the popularity of Bridgerton and Victoria but it actually looks quite interesting.

Maireas · 15/07/2021 22:20

How lovely to see Cams visiting the hospice, that's really nice.
Leti looks appropriate for the event.

Honestly, that novel looks a bit all done before and bodice ripping..but I'm a Jilly Cooper fan, so what do I know?!Grin
Really nice to hear that Cams has visited your local hospice, @paradyning - lovely photos of the visit.

Horsemad · 15/07/2021 22:48

Leti's dress is gorgeous, love the colour and style.

I'll check on the name of the book. I've given it to DM to read.

She was unsuited really for the royal life she married into: before the queen had all her children and they grew up her cousin, the DOK was quite high profile.

It hasn't been a happy marriage, and her children haven't been easy. She had one miscarriage, and lots of bouts of depression over the years.

KillingMeDeftly · 16/07/2021 07:02

Not a miscarriage @MrsFin, a stillbirth at term and a TFMR.

Interesting that among the bridesmaids for their wedding were Princess Anne and Jane Spencer, now Fellowes, Diana's sister.

Serenster · 16/07/2021 07:56

I’m sure I read recently that Princess Marina wasn’t keen on the idea of her son marrying a commoner, and forced them to separate for a year (in the hopes that the relationship would die out, as had worked for Princess Margaret and Peter Townsend). Only they were still very keen to get married at the end of it. It’s a shame it turned out to be an unhappy marriage in the end.

I've always liked The Duchess of Kent, she's one of my favourite royals
When we had a careers session at school I had no idea what I wanted to do when I grew up (and at pushing 50 I still don't). My teacher said well can you think of anyone who has a job you'd like to do? So I replied the Duchess of Kent (she was a Wimbledon every year and the FA cup final - it was my idea is heaven).

Not a miscarriage *@MrsFin*, a stillbirth at term and a TFMR.

I clearly remember reading about her having a miscarriage - I just wonder if that was considered the correct term at the time - back in the 70's? Not meaning to offend, just interested in how terminology changes over the years. Awful for her - and every other woman who suffers a stillbirth.

My mum used to say that she came from a wealthy background, I think her family owned a mill - DM always thought she was lovely and beautiful. Sounds like she's had a pretty sad life.

RickiTarr · 16/07/2021 10:37

Didn’t she have both a stillbirth and a miscarriage, poor woman? At least one of those was in her early 40s, IIRC. So she ran out of time to try again.

RatherBeRiding · 16/07/2021 11:01

DoK hardly a commoner - her family are aristocracy although certainly not on the scale of the Spencers.

KillingMeDeftly · 16/07/2021 11:34

Interview with the Duchess where she talks about her stillbirth and abortion.

paradyning · 16/07/2021 18:18

Her wedding dress was gorgeous

Maireas · 16/07/2021 18:52

Thanks for those pics, paradyning it's a really gorgeous dress. They look so happy - Edward is absolutely smitten! I know that Princess Marina really disapproved as Katherine wasn't aristocratic enough and she favoured a European Princess for her son. (At least her second son would wed a European Baroness!).
When Edward was allowed to see her again, he was so excited he fell down the stairs!

I really enjoyed reading about her dress, thanks for posting.

Lovely new photos of the Dutch RF taken at Huis Ten Bosch at The Hague. Princess Amalia looking very glam in her heels! I've been reading how she's turned down getting an official allowance from the state when she turns 18 later this year:

Lovely picture, MotherofPearl. They look like such a happy and relaxed family! I'm glad to see that they're embracing their mum's love of colour!

There’s something so relatable about the Dutch royals. They look so joyful and carefree.

The Duchess of Kent’s dress was glorious. So elegant. The groom looked so proud and happy.

KillingMeDeftly · 16/07/2021 21:09

Relatable yet more expensive than the British royals!

Eaumyword · 16/07/2021 22:27

Max in her trusty yellow! They look like a nice family.

TSSDNCOP · 16/07/2021 23:21

I rather like of kent 2019 the fact she wore trainers to Meghan and Harry's wedding.

Love the DoK's hat
