I do not tan. Naturally pale. Gave up on fake tan years ago as they always streak or patch. So on recommendation I tried Nivea firm gradual Tanner. Used it every day and NO change at all.

I then saw Utan and how amazing that is supposed to be. Yesterday used the tanning serum and the face spray. Supposedly fail proof yet today woken up with it completely uneven, streaks where it looks like I haven’t touched it but I did!! I used a mitt, worked bottom way up. Shaved the day before so that didn’t interfere, my skin is not remotely dry and I moisturise every single day. What is wrong with me?! Have tried SO many fake tans and gradual Tanners. Hate all st tropez, skinny tan seemed the best of them all but still bad! Has anyone been like me and struggled and come across an amazing one???

What should I do with the patches? Go over them again snd not touch the bits that tanned or leave it??

The Dove DermaSpa body lotion one is awesome. I’ve always struggled to find one that actually works without being streaky but this one is very good and the colour builds quite quickly!

Zampa · 05/06/2021 07:29

Personally, I'd leave the streaks well alone and either get some fake tan fixer or gently exfoliate until they're less visible.

I know you said you hate St Tropez but their gradual tanner/moisturiser is the best I've used. I'm very pale and use the dark one like actual fake tan. It's never streaked for me so far.

QueenofallNorway · 05/06/2021 07:32

I second the Dove Dermaspa. I’m very pale, but I use the medium/dark one as the fair one looks too yellow on me. This one gives a lovely natural colour.

globalwondering · 05/06/2021 07:34

Dove is brilliant and so is Garnier summer body, can't go wrong with either and a lot cheaper than most fake tans!

Dizzy1234 · 05/06/2021 07:34

I'm another vote for Dove for a gradual tan, it's great and smells lovely.
Also I really Skinny Tan, they do one for your face too which doesn't block your pores

kellyprincess5 · 05/06/2021 07:39

I'm a big fan of the skinny tan gradual Tanner, or the palmers cocoa butter one. Always get compliments x

Iliketeaagain · 05/06/2021 07:39

I know you said you hated all St tropez, but have you tried the in-shower tan - you put it on, wait 3 minutes and then wash it off. Repeat for 3 or 4 days in a row until you get the colour you want and then every few days. I'm also very pale and never had a streaky tan with it. I find it really natural - I need to be careful because I find even the gradual tan moisturers make me look orange.

Loserinlove · 05/06/2021 08:05

Ok I can get to Superdrug this morning, who sells the tan removers in there does anyone know?

It has blurred a little with a good scrub, this isn’t even dark, thank fuck I didn’t go for the dark mousse Grin

No I hate at tropez and used to admire the shower thing but I know it would do nothing for me. I don’t know what is wrong with my skin. I had lengthy email with Utan and they were great! Yet still it didn’t work out!

Ok I already have the dove derma spa but in fair to medium.... i tried a palmers gradual tan few years ago and was the same. Don’t know which one it would have been or if it has changed. Which one is the Garnier one? Yellow bottle?

UnreasonablyPissedOff · 05/06/2021 11:45

@QueenofallNorway interesting to read that. I'm v pale too & v recently used the dove dermaspa fair to medium. The tan is v even & non streaky but it's a little teeny bit yellow.
How dark does the dark skin make you as all I really want to do is take the blue out of my sink for sleeveless tops etc
Thanks

Hendalle · 05/06/2021 11:51

I agree with Garnier Summer Body (yes yellow bottle OP). I’m very pale and too lazy to use any other self tanners but I find the garnier works nicely, minimal effort to apply & no streaks. I use the light version just to take the edge off my glaring white legs Grin

paintedpanda · 05/06/2021 11:52

I am very pale and have just started using the isle of paradise tanning drops. You add a few drops to your normal moisturiser and it develops over about 4-6 hours. I love it. I got the light ones just to take the stark whiteness off my legs, but you can get medium and dark too. It's not streaky at all

Lj8893 · 05/06/2021 11:52

I’m currently using the vita liberata gradual tanner and really loving it!

RedLipsAndRosyCheeks · 05/06/2021 12:32

The isle of paradise drops are great. You can use them for your face too.

Readyorknot · 05/06/2021 12:38

Vita liberata here too. Mousse or gradual moisturiser are my current faves. I also use st tropez and like it too.

Tbh, if you hate all of those tanners, I think it's you and not the tan. I'm pale and I've used fake tan for 20 plus years and I think whatever it is, you're doing it wrong. Don't moisturise within 24 hours beforehand and use latex gloves rather than a mit. Maybe try a professional spray tan?

Loserinlove · 05/06/2021 13:25

But if it’s me and I’m following guidance with regards to when to moisturise and exfoliate and when to defuzz etc I don’t know what else there is I’m doing wrong @Readyorknot?

I haven’t tried latex gloves to be fair and do have some. I definitely covered everywhere as I watched in the mirror when doing the back of my legs! I have had spray tans but they are not practical for regular use. They also gave me very orange knees despite the beautician saying it would be fine.

The vita one I have not heard of before so worth a go. I bought tan remover and the garnier summer and the dove summer revived gradual Tanner whilst I was out. When can I try using them? Wanted to look nice for Monday, would it be silly to use it tomorrow night? The patches aren’t dark but they are there....

Faevern · 05/06/2021 13:36

Have you had a spray tan, how does that look, is it even etc?

I use Natio sun-kissed glow gradual tan, never streaks. Usually buy online but some Tesco superstores sell it.

When I’ve tried others I get streaks and I use baby oil or coconut oil with body scrub to remove them.

Loserinlove · 05/06/2021 13:42

Spray tan I looked orange (had both at tropez and sienna) and asked for lightest shade. Knees horrific. Wasn’t nice.

Don’t understand as my skin isn’t dry at all? I exfoliate etc.... I’ll have another scrub tonight and try this tan remover and see how much comes off and maybe try dove or the garnier one as I have those.

MrsDThomas · 05/06/2021 13:48

I use Dove the medium-dark one. Brilliant!

ladygindiva · 05/06/2021 13:49

Another vote for dove. Easy, subtle, even and feels nice on the skin. And cheap compared to others.

Readyorknot · 05/06/2021 13:50

Spray tans should not look orange ... the formulas have developed so much that the pro tans have purple or green undertones.

Knees should at worst be too dark/dirty brown.

My salon is a specialist spray tan/makeup/wax place and they are trained to go lightly on hands/knees/elbows/feet. I get a 6x tan spray pass - it takes ten minutes and wash off in 2 hrs. Way less effort than doing it myself.

But vita liberata or st tropez are good for in between.

SunshineLane · 05/06/2021 13:57

I love Clinique body tinted lotion. All
The others have made my orange/blotchy/too dark. This is perfect. It’s light and I mix a touch with me face moisturiser and it gives the perfect glow. A little goes a long way.

QueenofallNorway · 05/06/2021 14:00

@UnreasonablyPissedOff it’s not too dark at all. One coat for me takes the edge of the whiteness, and it would take 3 or 4 coats to actually look tanned. I find it isn’t actually darker than the fair/medium one, just a nicer tone.

Loserinlove · 05/06/2021 21:08

When using the dove do you wear gloves or use a mitt or hands??

OP posts:
Fluffbutt · 05/06/2021 21:12

What about the St Tropez gradual tan tinted? Because it’s tinted you can see exactly where you’re applying it and if you’ve missed any bits.
