I do not tan. Naturally pale. Gave up on fake tan years ago as they always streak or patch. So on recommendation I tried Nivea firm gradual Tanner. Used it every day and NO change at all.

I then saw Utan and how amazing that is supposed to be. Yesterday used the tanning serum and the face spray. Supposedly fail proof yet today woken up with it completely uneven, streaks where it looks like I haven’t touched it but I did!! I used a mitt, worked bottom way up. Shaved the day before so that didn’t interfere, my skin is not remotely dry and I moisturise every single day. What is wrong with me?! Have tried SO many fake tans and gradual Tanners. Hate all st tropez, skinny tan seemed the best of them all but still bad! Has anyone been like me and struggled and come across an amazing one???

Dove gradual tanner is the best one I've used for sure

QueenofallNorway · 06/06/2021 01:36

OP I use my hands, then wash them, then apply to the backs of my hands with a cotton wool pad. Then add hand cream to blend it. Seems to work!

thesootherfairy · 06/06/2021 16:11

Seconding Isle of Paradise drops!

Brilliant! No patches or streaks and looks natural

Also v pale, no tan and prone to streaks. This stuff is great.

Loserinlove · 06/06/2021 17:27

@thesootherfairy all over your body?

OP posts:
thesootherfairy · 06/06/2021 17:37

Yes. Put it into your body lotion. It's brilliant and easy to use.

kritigirl · 06/06/2021 17:51

I have had the same problem as you OP and I have tried everything. Notting works that great on me irrespective of what I do or don't do. The only one that has been better than the rest is tan luxe. They do tanning drops and they have been the most natural and the least streaky.. I feel your pain!

Loserinlove · 06/06/2021 21:18

@kritigirl just had a Google and they have quite a few products, which do you use, the tanning drops?

dementedma · 06/06/2021 21:21

I use Nip n Fab tanning drops mixed in with my moisturiser. Looks very natural

Loserinlove · 07/06/2021 06:40

Ok I like nip and fab so that’s an option.

Right last night I put on the dove gradual Tanner in light to medium (I already had this in) and it’s not bad. Not much colour but no massive streaks just the odd patch where no colour has taken.... SO do I put another later on tonight??

hopeishere · 07/06/2021 06:54

Yes put some more on. I use a bondi sands mitt and it's definitely helped with the streaking.

Bluesheep8 · 07/06/2021 07:40

What about the St Tropez gradual tan tinted? Because it’s tinted you can see exactly where you’re applying it and if you’ve missed any bits.

This. I am so pale that one application of this is enough to give plenty of colour.

Loserinlove · 07/06/2021 07:43

@Bluesheep8 I haven’t touched st tropez for quite a while as I hate it. Hate the smell, hate that it never works well. I’m sure I have tried their gradual tan but years ago. What does it smell like? I have showered and the dove doesn’t smell at all?

Watching with interest, I need to get my pasty white legs out soon - I've also tried everything over the years and never had much luck, but I think I build it up in my mind to be this super-complex exercise.

I can't understand how anyone can use the stuff and not get unevenness or streaks, it seems impossible to me!

Weird because I remember spotting my mum's fake tan in the bathroom cupboard when I was about 12 (in the 80s) so I curiously slapped some on without a clue what I was doing.

Came out lovely. Grin Got a bollocking for using it though.

The St Tropez gradual tinted doesn't smell at all. just remembered I mix it half and half with body lotion, not because it smells but I don't think it spreads very easily, it's quite thick.

Capricornandproud · 07/06/2021 09:10

I don’t scrub or moisturise and whack He Shi liquid on with a mitt. I think you’re overthinking it! Also, I can be a bit streaky on the first go, then I have a light shower and wash that off, then put another layer of tan over the streaks. I too used to be very pale in my teens but I persevered with sunbeds (I know! Etc etc) but it has saved my skin countless times throughout my life and I’m now 40.

OP - not advocating the sunbed AT ALL by the way, but I’m saying I understand how it is to be pale. I’m sure everything streak or line wise shows up! I also second Garnier yellow bottle tan. Mitts, gloves, hands… I personally prefer mitt.

Capricornandproud · 07/06/2021 09:12

And I also don’t like a mitt thats too clean. Leave a bit of crap on it! Its too absorbant otherwise

Bluesheep8 · 07/06/2021 11:19

Agree with this but definitely don't smear crap on your legs 🤣

Loserinlove · 07/06/2021 12:22

Ha maybe I’d get a better tan with some crap Grin

Ok so the dove has given me a minor glow, no one else would notice but takes the white off but I do have some patches. I will go another layer tonight and assess it in the morning I think...

Get some Rimmel Sun Shimmer and blend it over the streaks. It is a wash off one but so you can remove it if it looks bad, but I have done this loads of times and it works on my pasty, Scottish streaked legs

Loved this when I was a teenager. Didn't know they still made it. Off to Google....

HumousWhereTheHeartIs · 07/06/2021 12:41

Also I agree with the previous recommendation of Isle of paradise drops (Clarins do some too). I like them because you can blend them into good quality face or body creme. I have really sensitive skin so I find these work better.

HumousWhereTheHeartIs · 07/06/2021 12:42

@MapleMay11Used to be made by Coty now it's Rimmel.

WellTidy · 07/06/2021 12:50

I don't tan either, and I have never ever found a fake tan, whether it is a gradual tanner or a leave on and then wash off one, or a prep product that you put on before the tanner, or the drops that you add to your normal moisturiser, that doesn't give me patches.

I've tried loads and loads. They simply don't 'take' on parts of my body such as my shins. But they do take beautifully on my feet, so I end up looking really patchy.

I've given up trying. I use the wash off ones if I know that there is no chance of rain or me getting wet, because there is no rescuing it if I do. I splashed myself with water from a very forceful tap in the dentist's loo once and it made a complete mess of my made up legs! And then had a grim experience on a commuter train when someone else's sweaty legs were against my made up legs. Truly awful!

SorrelForbes · 07/06/2021 12:51

I'm very pale too but have had success with Tropic (and no, I don't sell the stuff!) Summer Skin gradual tanner. I also like Perfect Legs by This Works which isn't a tanner but just makes your skin look nicer!

ShowMeTheSugar · 07/06/2021 12:55

I noticed you said you moisturise daily, are you applying moisturiser before you tan? That might account for the colour not taking in some places, and going streaky in others
