WWW's six week 10 year younger boot camp Nov 2007, WEEK FOUR

WideWebWitch · 18/11/2007 21:59

This is week 4 of the ninth WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2007.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's autumn
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Aah, bullshit bingo. The CJS has bullshit jargon all of it's own.

Sunscreen - yes.
No booze
45ish mins on the bike (not quite sure, lol)
Lots of water/weak tea.
Apply body cream as often as possible - no.
Use hand cream/foot cream too - yes.
Go to bed early - Lights out at 10.30. Couldn't sleep so read a bit. DS3 was coughing all night, and threw up at one point so came into bed with me, thus I had very little sleep again.
Eat healthily: was doing just fine until tonight when I pigged out a bit.
Be Happy: Apart from all three lads being offside again, had an interesting discussion with a colleague about DH's retirement (in less than 18 months, yikes) and he put a whole new slant on things, which was quite interesting.

tortoiseSHELL · 28/11/2007 21:51

Hi, haven't been on much this week, but wish me luck, got to go back to the GP tomorrow as have some sort of swelling/lump/something right next to my nipple (tmi!) - am trying not to google, and get frightened, and I know it's probably fine, but still get a little scared about it, just in case! In my head, I know it's probably fine, as it grew really quickly last week, and was really sore for a couple of days, GP gave me AB cream for it, but hasn't had any effect, said to go back in a week.

I hate google sometimes!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 28/11/2007 22:07

GOOD LUCK T/shell!

Marina · 28/11/2007 23:11

Oh good luck TS, my money is on an inflamed sebaceous gland from what you say, but that's a worry and I hope the dr can soon allay your fears
Dh and ds camp every year at Broadstone Warren DoNB

tortoiseSHELL · 29/11/2007 08:20

thanks duchess and marina, marina that's what I think it is as well, when I'm bein reasonable, when not it could be anything...!!! Will let you know how it goes.

Just back from GP - don't know if I'm reassured or not tbh - she said it didn't have any of the 'warning' signs, and she thought it was a blocked/swollen gland - she said it was very superficial, but not infected, so have got to go back in 2 weeks, just to see, and then she said she might get the 'breast people' to have a look just to be on the safe side, but she said not to worry, so I shall try very hard not to!

foxinsocks · 29/11/2007 10:34

glad it is not raising any alarm bells Tortoise. Glands are in the funniest places aren't they!

Batters, I too am munching granola now and blame www. DO NOT tell me if it is calorific.

Glad you are better marina.

I am at home as one of the children is sick AGAIN. 3rd time in 3 months and this is with dh and I sharing the sick duties arrghhh. Boss is understanding but ultimately, does not look v good. Roll on us sorting out childcare.

I have something on my eyelid. It feels like I've been stung and looks a bit like a stye but I don't think you can get them there can you? It's on the bit of my eyelid right on top of my eyeball (so quite near the top of my eye socket iyswim). Perhaps it's a giant spot or something Can you get spots on eyelids?

Marina · 29/11/2007 11:10

Tell em about the Pom Bear FIS and sorry about more child illness that's such awful luck
Your spot on your eyelid sounds like what I get when I sit in a centrally heated environment all day and don't drink enough. I get weeny blisters and they itch like mad.
TS, sorry she wasn't conclusively reassuring, but you're in the system now and if you do have to go back in a fortnight make sure you get a referral. I have several pals who have needed to get lumps checked out and the fast referral service is so fantastically sensitive and reassuring - and I speak here of our local NHS Trust which is not so great in other respects
I am not even going to utter "don't worry" but have all my bits and bobs crossed for you.

puddle · 29/11/2007 11:19

I must confess to a couple of glasses of wine last night. In my defence they were hot on the heels of a 2 hour governors meeting. Yet another school run in the pouring rain this am so, although I went out feeling Ok I arrived back soaked, cold and sneezing like a loon again.

T-shell how worrying for you. Hopefully it will just go down again. I have a mammogram next week and am worried about that (even though it's routine, due to family history). Just feel stupidly superstitious about going and having my breasts prodded about.

How old are your children Fox? Are they going through the catch-everything-that's-going stage? Mine have been v healthy recently given that it's prime bug time of year - hope that doesn't mean I'm in for a run of sickness just when I start work again. Am dosing them with vitamins every morning just in case it has any beneficial effects!

foxinsocks · 29/11/2007 11:27

They are 7 and 6 so well past getting everything but dd is a wuss. Ds is well hard and not often ill and also struggles on. You know he is properly ill when he says he is.

Dd's best friend has not been at school with impetigo and part of me thinks it's a ploy by her because she doesn't want to go in grr but she did have a v mild temp this morning (which has, of course, disappeared).

She drives me mad dd. Both dh and I are busy and she loves pulling fast ones. I have sat her down several times (as have the school) to warn her about skipping school for her penchant which is lying in bed all day reading books (because that's all it is - it isn't time with us, it really isn't!) but it seems to go in one ear and out the other.

Anyway, my bottom line is that I can't dispute a temperature and at 6.30, she had one and so no work for me (even though she is bright as a button now!).

puddle · 29/11/2007 11:30

It's maddening isn't it? My ds actually did have a day off now I think about it with a similar temp in the am which had disappeared by lunchtime.

It least with my ds I can tuck him up in my bed and he'll read/dose etc while I do some work. dd (5) needs constant attention when she's ill.

prufrock · 29/11/2007 14:31

Hope she gets better soon FIS. Yes - tell them about the bear. I get spots on my eyelids sometimes as well - swellings which turn into hard little white lumps. There a bugger to get rid of - I enede up poking my last one out with a safety pin after about 4 weeks.

Tshell - I had a lump on my breast whislt on holiday which worried me for a few days, and then it burst and it turned out if was just a ginormous boil! I ended up mentioning it to teh doctor after I got back, because I'd had red streaks spreading from it where teh d infection had got into the blood, and she said that because of teh composition of breast tissue/skin, whislt it's less usual to get spot/boil, when you do get them tehy are big. So hopefully yours is something taht innocuous.

tortoiseSHELL · 29/11/2007 14:33

Thank you! I think it's probably a blocked/swollen gland like she said - it came up so quickly. It's always so hard not to panic at things though!

DollyPopsOut · 29/11/2007 20:24

Tshell - am another one who has had a blocked boil thing in the breast. Way before i had children, found a lump and went a bit panicked, then the boob suddenly went soft and the pinkness came to the surface. Prufrock put it much better and it sounds as if I had the same. Fingers crossed that yours is the same too.

FIS - sympathies for your DD. It is so hard taking time off work for poorly children. When she is ill, DH always tries to pull rank and say his job is more important than mine so I should be at home. Drives me mad. Esp as it's not true.

Sympathies on the soaking, Puddle, but hope the wine was good.

Batters - do you live in Tulse Hill? You are probably very near me if you do. I am by Rosemead School. Not in proper Dul village as I don't have a spare £2m but like the area very much.

Hello to everyone else. Sorry not to write much today. Need to go and do some pooey old work. Starting at 8.30pm - great. No wonder I look 100.

unknownrebelbang · 29/11/2007 22:26

It was definitely a good slant, Batters. I'd been thinking along the lines of we can't afford for him to retire yet (all three boys will still be at school, and at least one should go on to university) but with his pension and ANother job, plus my wages, we'll be fine. Colleague was saying he should walk into quite a variety of jobs, one with less stress, no shifts, part-time if he wanted, etc etc. and be in a position to pick and choose really.

DH is 48 by the way, lol, just in case you were wondering...

FIS I'm intrigued by the pom bear, made me rofl. Sorry to hear about dd though.

TShell, I agree with Marina, you're in the system, and should get dealt with quickly should the need arise.

WideWebWitch · 29/11/2007 22:27

Hello all

Ts, poor you, that sounds scary but it sounds like your gp really isn't worried so I hope you're feeling ok.

FIS, sympathy on the sick children front. I haven't had any days off in this new job with sick children (only 5 weeks in mind you) but when ds was looking ill last week and dh had already had 1 day off with sick dd that week we really worrieda bout what we were going to do. In the end I phoned ex at 7.30am and said look, you're supposed to be collecting him tonight anyway, if he's ill can you go and collect him? I figure I've done 10 years of time off work, so he can help the odd time. It's very stressful isn't it, I hope you get au pair or something soon

No time to write much, muat go to bed
but granola (superfoods one is 400 cal for 100g)
cheese sandwich
wotsits
apple
pizza
bean salad
water
Moron has stopped working so no idea but prb about 7000
water
no booze and going to bed now!

Friday tomorrow, hurrah!

Retiring at 48?

OP posts:
unknownrebelbang · 29/11/2007 22:31

And now for the woe is me. I have yet another nasty cough and cold. Ended up coming home half-way through my day and getting into bed for a couple of hours.

I've not really been right since half-term, that's six blardy weeks. I don't understand, I've done more exercise since pre-children and eaten better than I've ever done! Think I need some strong alcohol, just to kill the bugs, lol.

Sunscreen - yes.
No booze
30 mins on the bike
Lots of water/weak tea.
Apply body cream as often as possible - no.
Use hand cream/foot cream too - yes.
Go to bed early - Lights out at 11 pm, and darling DS3 kept me awake half the night again.
Eat healthily: sandwiches and fruit mainly today, plus some chocolate.

unknownrebelbang · 29/11/2007 22:32

He'll be 49 and 8 months, lol, if he goes when he should, but even if he "retires" (and I'm not sure that he will) he'll have to do something else.

unknownrebelbang · 29/11/2007 22:33

Oh, and I'll be 42 and 8 months - always said I'd retire with him and travel....then we had the boys, and that put paid to that idea.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 29/11/2007 22:52

t/shell - good news, except for having a swollen sebaceous gland! Hope it clears up quickly.

unknown - your DH is police yes? Which would explain his youthful retirement age.

I'm very tired, have been baking all evening for the school Christmas Fair and I badly need to go to bed. DH has fallen asleep on the sofa and is snoring LOUDLY so I'm going to leave him there and sneak upstairs on my own.

I've no idea what I've eaten today but I did just make and eat a handful of parmesan cheese straws with the leftover pastry. Just as well I didn't make a whole batch as I would have eaten the lot!

moonshine · 30/11/2007 12:06

Hi all, am back (day off) and have missed so much have just skimmed the thread, I'm afraid as need to go and collect ds (from the nursery where I feel like a granny - the other mums are all so young).

The good

  • dcs are better
  • Have made several visits to the gym (including today),and I feel better already for it.
  • am still being very good food and booze-wise in the week
  • am well-moisturised

The bad

  • I still eat and drink waaaaay too much at the weekend which is frustrating my goals.
  • Have been getting headaches, which I never do usually
  • I am having a 'not enjoying work' week

Tonight I must finally put together the playmobil advent thingy (which took me hours the last time I did it 2 years' ago) so I will need fortification with alcohol and other unspeakable things, but 'tis quite fun.

Must now go and face the young yummy mummies (curse them!)

moonshine · 30/11/2007 12:07

Sorry, for the blunt post - have a good Friday all!
