WWW's six week 10 year younger boot camp Nov 2007, WEEK FOUR

WideWebWitch · 18/11/2007 21:59

This is week 4 of the ninth WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2007.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's autumn
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

I am currently focusing my energy on looking for a part-time job.
My progeny are not at all happy at the prospect of going to after school club twice a week, but stuff it - it won't kill 'em

Hello all. I have a very sharp headache ifkwim so I'll be brief.

Reasonably brisk hour-long walk with the dog in the pine forests this morning. Cold but fabulous.

I've eaten croissant, bacon flavour Wheatos (as post-walk pick-up), prawn & avocado salad with bread & butter, apple, handful of raisins & dried prunes , sardines on toast with cucumber, marshmallowy tea cake thing. 2 lites of water/squash/juice and having got out of the habit of taking Spatone iron supplement, I remembered today and will try to keep it up.

And I will be having another early night.

WideWebWitch · 27/11/2007 19:37

Batters, am in AWE of the steps you do, it's serious walking, well done. Oh I fancy Aldeburgh, I really do, must make it there one day.

Walk in pine forests sounds fantastic DofN

Iota, hmm, we can seeeee you! Good luck in your job hunt

Cod, ha ha ha you can#t quite bring yourself it ignore 'style and beauty' can you, so you must see this day after day, ha ha. We are all gorgeous, todally gorgeous.

Hello girls .

Just a quickie from me too. I have some work to finish before I start supper. Today I have walked, oh, about 50 steps over to my neighbour's and back. Loaded DD1 and DD2 into buggy board and buggy respectively, went to poorly neighbour to administer cake and sympathy, and DD1 fell asleep on her sofa. She had been quiet and a bit bleary all morning so I think she is under the weather. By the time she woke up it was peeing down so neighbour gave me emergency milk and bread, and DH will have to have take out tonight. DD1 aready asleep. Hope she makes it to nursery tom or I'll have to have a day off before I have even started .

Went to bed booze free at 8.30 last night. Lots of f and V yesterday, but felt a bit pants today so haven't eaten much. Will try to have something light from cheeky Thai takeaway to keep the healthy theme going.

Hope you are all well. Will be up at 6 tomorrow to get to work for about 7.45. WWW, I live in Dulwich and work near Russell Square. Bus goes door to door thank God. I always grout my face at my desk so look like the living dead on the bus. At least it's dark!

foxinsocks · 27/11/2007 19:40

aaah isn't it funny how many of us remember that place at Waterloo (I knew you lot would )

and marina, lol at Udder Place and I know exactly what you mean . Dh and I have not even managed to meet up at work yet because one of us is always rushing back to sort out the kids. I think spontaneity died for us when the children were born!

Well, yet another day and yet another evening of delayed trains .

We are now toying with the idea of an au pair. Where she would sleep I do not know (in, what is almost certainly, the smallest house in London) but the prospect of having someone here all the time who could sort out the kids is very appealing. Our current search for a nanny is proving fruitless - we have one lady who looks v good but for just 2 days a week, it will cost me almost £1000 from my after tax salary aarrghhh.

www - have I missed any news of the interview?

dollypops - glad your first day back was OK.

If anything, going back to work has aged me about 10 years! I keep catching sight of myself in the window of the train and thinking 'what the f is that old bint staring at' before I realise it's me .

WideWebWitch · 27/11/2007 19:41

Today

100g granola
apple
pear
cheese and mango chutney sandwich
apricot bar (99 cal)
and am now eating cottage pie
plenty of water
8000 steps
was in bed before 10.30 last night

WOW, I am an INSPIRATION to you all bwah ha ha ha

Hey, was in a meeting this pm (with HR, which wno't surprise you when you read the next bit) and a woman said "it's an incredibly powerful thing to pick up the phone." Without a trace of irony or anything. I wrote it down just so I'd remember to report it to you lot, but I suspect she thought I was impressed. The day I'm impressed by the idea of someone picking up a fking phone is,w ell the day hell freezes over. Anyway, I wanted to say "do you understand the definition of POWERFUL you numpty?" but didn't obv, as would have been fired.

Hey, dh has gone to get ds from a tea and so I am ALONE in the house, in my pyjamas, having done all my chores (lunch for tomorrow, laying out clothes, putting granola in a container in my bag, taking make up off) and it feels fab! I should have pmt this week but feel happy so hey, that's good

FIS me too re bint in reflection in windows, scary isn't it. Int have heard they don't know what level they want so they interviewed me, someone junior to me and someone senior to me so it all depends and in agents words 'won't be to detriment of any candidate' - in other words they can only decide who they want when they decide how senior they want it.

an au pair, yes, when we buy a house that's my aim.

WideWebWitch · 27/11/2007 19:45

Dollypops, sorry about sick child, what does F&V mean?

OP posts:
TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 27/11/2007 19:50

it means fruit & veg, you numpty!

unknownrebelbang · 27/11/2007 19:51

Rebel forgot to confess to alcohol at 3.30 pm on Saturday afternoon, then continued to imbibe during the evening

Lol @ the mistype of my name - I often consider myself to be a bit of a bag, lol.

Sunscreen - yes.
No booze
60 mins on the bike.
Lots of water/weak tea.
Apply body cream as often as possible - no.
Use hand cream/foot cream too - yes.
Go to bed early - 10.30 pm tada!
Eat healthily: not too bad today. Plenty of fruit as ever.

Be Happy - hmmm pleasure/pain principle in force today. DH is unexpectedly around this evening, but is on full nights so we will all no doubt suffer tomorrow. Computer at work out of action so easy day, but will have to play catch up tomorrow. DS3 is being delightful, DS1 is being obnoxious.

Sigh.

DollyPopsOut · 27/11/2007 19:51

Fox, I am with you on the childcare. I work 2 days a week and my nursery is a cool £980 a month ! At least I like this one (at the moment). My last deeply awful one would have been £1150 for the 2 of them for 2 days.

Do you think as we age we choose our face or our figure? When I was about 10 years younger (so mid twenties) I looked very young. If I caught sight of myself in a mirror, I'd wonder who the fat girl was. Now I am about 2 stone slimmer, I wonder who the old bird is. The grey hair isn't helping (and the fact I am sporting an Eliz I 'do as I have lost loads post DD2) and I just look knackered. Even with slap on. DO you think I would look younger a bit fatter of face?

Must work, have a report to write.

foxinsocks · 27/11/2007 20:04

I work 4 days but at the moment, dh is covering 2 of them (he works weekends so doesn't work on Monday and works a half day on Tuesday for the same reason) but that can't go on for ever and it also means that dh and I never see each other.

I still have quite chubby cheeks but find rather than making me look younger (as they did for most of my life) they now just make me look like a chubby faced older person . I don't think you can win in those stakes.

Ooh nursery fees are so unreasonable aren't they - especially as they turf your child out the minute they are ill!

Marina · 27/11/2007 20:09

Fever and vomiting I suspect WWW
Glad the return to work is not too hideous Dolly and am LOLing at work grouting. If I leave it til then I always get distracted and only do half my face or something equally Miss Havisham-ish so I have to step out with full polyfilla in place. There are many worse places to work than near Russell Square, I love that part of town
London's suburban overground really is shite though isn't it fox
Would those be the pine forests of hot contention by any chance DoNB - I do love it round there, always have done
Plenty of walking (12000 steps, must do more) and water, cottage cheese and budgie food with fruit for lunch, grilled chicken, brown rice and carrots for dinner.
Dd has been serenading us with the Atheists' Carol "DON'T tell it on the Mountain" and insisting piercingly that these are the correct words. I think I am going to need a full dose of Kalms for next week's Christmas play
Good luck with the mother's help puddle, hope it all works out ok

Marina · 27/11/2007 20:11

Lines up with WWW in the Numpties' Corner

puddle · 27/11/2007 20:16

Feeling a bit better today although it has rained non-stop and not really got light all day. I suspect dp is laying a fire as we speak, ready for Spooks at 9!

I must report I had a biscuit today. And didn't eat half - just didn't like the taste. Have I morphed into someone else? Am I now to be the kind of woman who picks at a sticky toffee pudding and says 'oooo I'm so full now' after four spoons of it?

Dolly I fear you are right re: choosing face over arse. I look ok but have definitely aged over the last year - since turning 40 in fact. Have had to change make up and everything. I have quite a thin face anyway and have developed bags over the last year I never had before - am not yet expert at covering them up.

LOl www at the POWER of the receptionist. I have had a break from the work bollocks-speak, will be quite amusing to get back into it again. Sitting in meetings with seemingly normal men who then say things like 'let's run this one up the flagpole and see how it flies' COMPLETELY straight-faced.

Bama are you in Oz?

Marina · 27/11/2007 20:37

Yes, I LOLed at the powerful phone and then forgot to acknowledge it. Honestly www where did you put yourself?

I was at a course at JAGS a few weeks ago at the height of the Autumn leaves - gosh, Dulwich is lovely
Good luck with the job-hunting Iota - does your mummy know you are posting on here btw
I think I can probably imagine your dd's carol somehow batters is ladies' underwear featured?
Rapid Transit Yogurt (although I am not going to do a DoNB and share) for brekkie, trot up from London Bridge with Maddy Prior and the Broadside Band droning and thrumming their merry way through some Advent carols on the old pod, have managed to deter MLM (Mad Line Manager) from attending staff meeting, I'm feeling good today. No water yet, must go and find my flagon
I honestly didn't see any wrinkles the last time we met batters, you are looking fabulous. OK, so it was dark and I was trollied, but nonetheless

bamamama · 28/11/2007 09:32

hello. In my pre-baby life I used to be an HR Manager and did lots of management training. I knew I had to get out when I used to have these out-of-body experiences whilst training and would take a step back, listen to myself and think "what utter bollocks". Bullshit bingo is a good way of passing the time in meetings as I recall...

Bootcamping in danger of being overlooked as we're off on our hols on Friday morning. Yes, I know I'm on my hols for a year as it is but this is our first proper family holiday - 3 weeks in NZ. So as I haven't even hunted out our passports let alone considered how ds is going to cope with living in a motor home I shall catch up with you all just before Christmas.

happy bootcamping!

Marina · 28/11/2007 10:49

Oh, what a lovely prospect bama (yes even the motorhome bit) hope you have a wonderful time, and commiserations about the HR background. I am a librarian so know all about good professional image
You'll have to log in from time to time and keep us posted

I miss bullshit bingo so much. I used to have a boss who was lovely, but we used to joke he had the companies name rolled inside him ike a stick of rock and he tried so hard to speak "management speak" so he could prove how "on-message" he was.

Dd sings "sing a sanna" - but can't tell me what a sanna is. And I think it was mb's ds who coined "I am the lord of the damn settee"

I am drinking lots of water, and no alcohol, but faling down on many other rules. Days seem to go wrong if I don't have breakfast, and I've been skipping it far too often. I am walking more as well - I have to take the dogs seperately still as Apple can't manage as wlong a walk as Roger, so I'm tending to walk to school rather than throw the ids in teh car.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 28/11/2007 19:51

marina - the pine forest is part of the Ashdown Forest.
batters - 20000 steps is awesome! Since I have almost given up running I seem to have stopped wearing my Moron. Must get back in the habit if just to see how much I slow up in next few months.
bama - have a lovely holiday.
sobernow - glad your enjoying your week.
pru - lots of water, no alcohol and twice as many dog walks - sounds perfectly OK to me!

I had miserable dog walk in drizzling rain. I am exhausted from the numerous school runs but finding life easier if I cook dinner before the last 3.15 pick-up - after that I'm completely shot.

I've eaten no breakfast [bad], cottage cheese, salad, pickles, bread & butter for lunch, 2 chocolate biscuits, 2 fruit pastilles and half of a cherry tomato & mozzarella pizza for dinner. Lots to drink and still getting to bed before 11pm everyday.
