WWW's six week 10 year younger boot camp Nov 2007, WEEK FOUR

WideWebWitch · 18/11/2007 21:59

This is week 4 of the ninth WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2007.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's autumn
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Today

100g granola! Of course!
2 apples
chese and mango chutney sandwich
2 hazelnut and sultana bars
few walnuts and brazils
and then at work at about 4I started itching like mad and my eyelids got a bit red and swollen so I wonder if I was allergic slightly to one of the nut bars? There were 2 different types, one a seeds of change, one a Tesco own organic, anyway, the itching's fading now so that's nice. Or maybe it was heat rash but I SO didn't want to say "is it me or is it hot in here" being as I am very likely peri menopausal and not wanting to draw attention to it

Came home and washed hair, took off make up, had
2 pieces toast
2 egg omelette with red peppers, tomotoes, rocket and balsamic vinegar
water

no wine, of course, for third night in a row.

And will be in bed by 10pm, dd came in at 4am and I didn't really get back to sleep so I am KNACKERED.

Oops sorry for posting twice

Oh no Marina on the cystitis, hope it's better soon, that sounds horrible. And Ts, sympathy, mucho, on the driving front. It's VERY annoying, I know.

No news on the job and I would have liked to have heard something today. So I am assuming I haven't got it as ime they are ultra keen to get hold of you when you have and leave you hanging about when you haven't. I came home thinking it went well but lay awake last night thinking of everything that wasn't perfect about it...

OP posts:
tortoiseSHELL · 20/11/2007 20:44

Hope you get some good news tomorrow www! It honestly took me over an hour to get down Baldwin Street tonight (do you know the one I mean - opposite the Hippodrome, other side of the centre), a distance of 100yards.

tortoiseSHELL · 20/11/2007 20:45

And ((((sympathetic hug))) to marina. x

WideWebWitch · 20/11/2007 20:46

I used to work in the Royal London Buildings in Baldwin St, many many years ago when you were a nipper and the street lamps were candles...

yes, I know where you mean, VERY annoying. Last time I was driving around there I noticed they've completely screwed up all the traffic in the city centre, totally and absolutely. Stupid (new) one way systems that help no-one, etc etc

OP posts:
Marina · 20/11/2007 20:47

Right back at you with the hug for traffic in the rain torty
You never know www - would you take it if it was offered, do you think?

WideWebWitch · 20/11/2007 20:48

Yes I would Marina! It's fairly senior, it's the right money, it's FIFTEEN MINUTES from my house, I can do it, it offers progression, it's a big company. The only thing is grotty offices but hey, I can live with that for a much reduced commute.

lol batters

btw, I walked 8,700 steps today

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 20/11/2007 21:13

Batters, do you ache all over from walking? Or not any mroe? I ache and ache (but realise it's only been 3 weeks)and feel like someone's been kicking me all over when I wake up at the weekend after 5 days of it. Will it get better?

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 20/11/2007 21:14

I now have white itchy spots all over my hands so I think it was an allergic reaction. Will take some Piriteze in the morning if it hasn't gone.

OP posts:
unknownrebelbang · 20/11/2007 21:30

Hope dd is feeling better prufrock, and that you have a better night.

I find the scans fascinating Duchess. Glad to hear everything's ok.

Moonshine - well done!

Sorry to hear you're not well again Marina.

grrr for you Tshell. How frustrating.

Hope the reaction settles by the morning, www.

My lovely colleague, exactly a year younger than me, keeps going on about how we're peri-menopausal - gee thanks K! (It IS rather hot in our place...but it IS the building, lol). Is Rebel convincing anyone??

Sunscreen - yes.
No booze
1 hr on the bike.
Lots of water/weak tea.
Apply body cream as often as possible - no.
Use hand cream/foot cream too - yes.
Go to bed early, by 10.30 last night, asleep by 11ish.
Eat healthily - had a good day, plenty of fruit and some salad too...except for the wispa and packet of rolos I can deny myself alcohol most of the time, alas chocolate is another story.

unknownrebelbang · 20/11/2007 21:33

And the boys are ok thanks. DS2's lump is simply a swollen gland which is a side-effect of the infection (although he's got to take more antibiotics because it's taking its time clearing up).

bamamama · 21/11/2007 02:10

Poor souls with icky dcs, icky selves and crap commutes, but awww, duchess is having a bootcamp baby! (I'm still holding out for someone to name something Ron or Lexi btw - Duchess??)
I have fallen victim to the vino again this week - I really am so weak willed. I have thought of a new excuse though....I am simply using a glass of red (or three) to mark the transition from baby time to adult time (usually at around 7.30pm). I realise it's not that convincing. I will try and think of a better one.
Anyhoo, everything else bootcamp wise going well. It's farking hot here so am eating a lot of salad and drinking loads of water.
t/shell - I take it your commute from hell is in Bristol? I used to drive from Clifton the Hartcliffe everyday. It was rubbish, Bristol traffic systems are really appalling. You have my sympathy.

bamamama · 21/11/2007 11:13

btw Duchess, I hope you're going to have TheDuchessofNorksGroom lined up to tell us when you've had little Lexi/Ron? Nothing like being prepared!

Right I'm off to bed. Not a drop of wine has passed my lips so I probably won't be able to sleep....

puddle · 21/11/2007 11:19

Have been away and computer-less looking after post-op mother. Managed to be in the Land of Many Desserts (AKA my mum's house) without caving in and, as was doing all the cooking, managed to stay on my detox programme, apart from one glass of wine round at a friends house.

Have come home with a shocking cold though - feel v grotty.

I used to get cystitis all the time Marina - so much so that I can no longer look a glass of cranberry juice in the face. Much sympathy, hope you're feeling better.

OMG at being peri-menopausal - how old is everyone then? Are we all post 40? (I am just about to be 41). What on arth is Angus Cactus batters?

moonshine · 21/11/2007 11:30

Oh yes there is nothing like that first glass of wine especially in a toasty warm room after being out in the cold with fractious dcs(wistful sigh). Or anytime really. I can't do one glass only and so am trying again to forego it during the week and resign myself to its lure on a Friday and Saturday (and Sunday if truth be told!). My sad confession is that as soon as Strictly Come Dancing starts on a Saturday I try and lock myself away in the kitchen with the portable and my first glass of wine (to cook tea ) - and I'm sure that programme is starting earlier and earlier!

Marina - you've reminded me tht I have a Stiff records compilation which I have just dug out! Some of the other fantastic bands that feature are Tenpole Tudor, Department S and Wreckless Eric! I shall now have to listen to it for a little nostalgic wallow.

WWW - I lived in Shepherd's Bush for a long time and had a good friend in Ealing/Northfields. My stomping ground was mostly Notting Hill/Chiswick/Kensington and I have now moved to Ruislip so not too far away. I don't envy all the horrible commuting (which I used to love) as I work in Harrow, a car journey which takes me between 20-35 minutes usually so fairly civilised.

Day off today so I can do a fair bit of walking and I have just discoverd that the nice bakers has closed down which is actually a v good thing as it removes some temptation (and opportunity) from my path. Sunscreen has been applied and will try to enjoy the sun which is shining here - hooray!
(I'm over-exclaiming today aren't I!)

moonshine · 21/11/2007 11:32

I am 41 so am in the peri-meni club, but I used Angus Castus to help me get pregnant both times (worked a treat) - it's supposed to help regulate your hormones isn't it?

prufrock · 21/11/2007 14:39

Oh batters go, take them.

dd still vomitty, and I have to close pre-school tomorrow as staff have either got the bug or have kids with it. It's vicious - only 2 out of Y6 have not had it, and school sent round letter syesterday to everyone on how to manage a gastro bug. But she was able to slep until about 4am, so we both feel a bit better, andshe has just eaten a slice of toast, so fingers crossed it stays down.

foxinsocks · 21/11/2007 16:52

oh sorry to hear about your illness marina and all the sick children.

good luck for the job www!

Well, Wednesday means only 2 more days to the weekend! Yipee! Have almost got the hang of finding a train where I'm not squished against someone's armpit for 45 minutes (ggrr) but it does mean leaving stupidly early in the morning to guarantee a seat. Have decided that it is worth my sanity to do that!

Have got to start interviewing nannies and don't feel like it at all. Luckily, most of them sound far more clued up than me!

Oh and I am fully peri-menopausal, I'm sure. I have also developed horrendous skin - I'm convinced it's revenge for never getting acne as a teenager!

WideWebWitch · 21/11/2007 19:57

Hello everyone!

Unknownrelbang, well done, that sounds like a good day

Bama, know the feeling wrt wine, are you a sahp or do you woth? I ask because when I was a sahp with a toddler a friend and I used to open the wine about 5.30pm in fact one of the thread titles I remember from when I first came here was "what time can we open the wine?" iirc the consensus was 'whenever you need to' Quite right. Mind you, I am v smug on the wine front the last 4 weeks

Oh batters, so you can't report on granola thing? Glad to hear you ached too. Do you not notice it at all now? It shows you're really used to it if not. Agree, oi Duchess, give us a crack at some names!

Puddle, welcome back and well done on resisting cakes. I am 41, so er, yes, surely peri-menopausal. How old is everyone else? Feel sure we have some whippersnappers on thsi thread, Torty for one!

Moonshine, ooh yes, I lived in Chiswick for a while too, in Turnham Green, I liked it. Hope you enjoyed your walking today

Prufrock, I hope dd's better soon, poor love.

FIS, where are you commuting from and to if you don't mind my asking? Sorry it's hard, are you over the shock of the 4 days yet? Ikwym about thinking it's WEDNESDAY, hooray, NEARLY FRIDAY. I can't bloody well wait.

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 21/11/2007 20:01

Well,

100g granola
apple
homemade sandwich with proscuitto, chilli jam and rocket
another apple
packet Wotsits
another apple
Strawberry smoothie with strawberries, banana and orange
packet Frazzles at petrol station, had a feeling dh wouldn't have food on the table when I got in and he hadn't so thank goodness I did have it
a bit of dark chocolate
and dh is making spaghetti bolognase which will be fattening but I don't care
walked around 8,000 steps (going on prev commutes, forgot to put Moron on)
Forgot sunscreen
and not as much water as usual as was in back to back meetings and couldn't top it up as much as I usually would
was in bed by 10pm last night
no booze last night or tonight

woke up this morning with eyes like I'd been punched, took piriton and looked a bit human by the time I got to work, albeit swollen. I had to take my wedding ring off my fingers were so swollen. Anyway, it's gone now, more or less back to normal, must find out what I'm allergic to, suspect hazelnuts in cereal bar yesterday

Off to eat now, well done.
