WWW's six week 10 year younger boot camp Nov 2007, WEEK FOUR

WideWebWitch · 18/11/2007 21:59

This is week 4 of the ninth WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2007.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's autumn
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

unknownrebelbang · 23/11/2007 21:10

Well he bought me rolos again tonight, lol.

I'm another one who wants/needs to have a fitting but is waiting to lose "just a bit more weight".

Sunscreen - yes.
No booze
45 mins on the bike.
Lots of water/weak tea.
Apply body cream as often as possible - no.
Use hand cream/foot cream too - yes.
Go to bed early - I lapsed, after midnight.
Eat healthily - ish. plenty of fruit and some salad leaves. Am about to make some crispie cakes for the autumn fair tomorrow so will no doubt be picking...quality control dontchaknow.
Be Happy. Not really. DH was greeted at work (7am) with news of a colleague's death - 35 fgs - he was playing footie at the time. It's all a bit of a shock tbh.

WideWebWitch · 23/11/2007 22:24

Oh so sorry about that sad news unknownrelbang, how awful. I heard today aobut a colleague's wife who died, leaving a 6 yo, she was in her thirties

re interview I heard: they don't know how senior they want so they've interviewed

me
someone less senior than me, wants a lot less £
someone more senior than me wants more £

so until they decide what level person they want they can't decide. Tbh, from what I know of the job they want the more senior than me person so I really doubt I'll get it. But I have decided that the commuting is bearable as long as I do leave dead on 5pm every day, which I do and as long as we all continue to be as organised as we are, i.e. I cannot drink in the week, I HAVE to be asleep by 10 ish, I have to have clothes laid out the night before, packed lunch and breakfast made, I HAVE to have a riveting book for the journey etc. Given all those conditions it really is ok. The job is fine, enjoyable even . And I've decided that if they ask me to stay beyond April (entirely possible) I will say yes, fine, if I can do 4 days. Because that would change things UTTERLY. And still bring in a decent amount of cash. So if I don't get the other job it doesn't matter that much, in fact staying where I am really might end up being the best thing from a cash and my cv pov.
Thanks for listening. Started typing this and ex dh and ex mil turned up and she's just come back from India and brought dd some GORGEOUS clothes, all sparkly and filmy, and includiing a sari. Most wonderful. I do love her.

OP posts:
tortoiseSHELL · 23/11/2007 22:26

That sounds fantastic www - my cousin got married in a sari, and looked so beautiful. Glad the commute is getting better, and 4 days would be good!!! Yes, Radio Bristol. Total awful local radio!!!

Sorry about your sad news unknownrelbang.

DeckTheHallsWithHollyhobbie · 24/11/2007 18:31

Hello all,
I keep losing you... something to do with going to bed before 10.30 each night means less time for MN!

Sunscreen - yes.
Booze - no.
Lots of water - getting better.
Body/hand/foot cream - getting better.
Go to bed early - yes, see above.
Eat healthily - got one more week of no sweet things in November. After that will try and eat sweet things only on weekends (except Xmas, of course!). Still don't feel the craving-sweets-after-tea-habit is broken, even 24 days on!
Exercise - doing ok, walking more and got a new programme at the gym.
Be Happy - also ok, went to the zoo this morning and to a cafe this afternoon, which is the most sociable Saturday I've had in ages!

Marina · 24/11/2007 21:46

Hello all, just catching up really quickly here - am finally feeling better after a fortnight of low spirits and immunity
Have been drinking lots and not eating so much, but have also been a bit lacking in zip so cheating on the walking some days
Your ex-ILs sound lovely www, how thoughtful of them to think of dd on their trip You never know with the job, fingers still crossed here - and good luck with the party. Went to a fab one this afternoon with the best entertainer I have ever seen, Gilbert Giggles. He was superb and even dd "I vant to be alone" loved him.
Very sorry to hear about your dh's colleague unknown and your colleague's wife too www
Prufrock - your hotmail account is spamming people my love I think it has been hijacked
Hmmm, is the run-up to Christmas a good time to try and lose weight...
Manuka honey is the dog's www and it's going in my porridge at the mo. Also, that Good Oil from Waitrose in salad dressings/sprinkled on pasta instead of olive oil
And we are no longer quinoa virgins! The jury is still out, but am reeling at the memory of my two shrimps consuming organic salmon with quinoa and wilted spinach earlier this week. Superfoods ahoy

WideWebWitch · 25/11/2007 09:04

Morning all! Marina, I'm so glad you're feeling better at last. Quinoa huh? Hmm.
Well done deckthehalls, that sounds good
Ts, I got married in a sari first time round too, it was dark deep green and silver.

God I love the weekends. This morning dh brought me a bacon sandwich with homemade bread he put in the breadmaker last night. I love waking up to the smell of bread. Didn't get up til 7.45 this morning and about the same yesterday.
Not good on the bootcamp front,

yesterday
bacon sandwich in a cafe with dd
2 pieces toast with lots of butter
a PE pizza
a pink iced bun
wine a go go
2 more pieces of toast
Quality St
a brief walk to put my car into the garage
but I did remember sunscreen

Still, high on happiness, it's been lovely. And I think I'm going to have a long bath with my new Eve magazine in a minute

OP posts:
TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 25/11/2007 19:44

Evening all.

Quinoa is delicious - I cook mine in chicken stock and the DCs all love it.

WWW - hope you hear about the job soon but sounds like you're getting to grips with the commuting.

I'm having another bout of insomnia so haven't had the most enjoyable weekend - too many chores and not enough relaxation. Hardly any exercise all weekend, I'd like to run tomorrow morning but I have to get on with the Christmas shopping as we start visiting family in 2 weeks time.

I've eaten a bowl of muesli, roast chicken, roast potatoes, leeks & mushrooms, broccoli, green beans & carrots, strawberry gateau, cheese sandwich and 2 chocolate biscuits. Not enough to drink through the day so I feel dehydrated - particularly as DH has lit all the downstairs fires and the house is roasting. So I'm off for large glass of ice cold water.

DollyPopsOut · 25/11/2007 20:19

Glad you are better Marina.

Unknown I am very sorry to hear about DH's colleague. Makes you very conscious of your own mortality doesn't it when someone of a similar age dies.

Duchess I am amazed at your energy given that you are in an interesting condition. Sorry you can't sleep. I have a lavender pillow which helps a bit when I am unable to sleep, and it was esp good when I was pregnant. Would this be worth a try?

Fingers crossed for the job WWW. It aint over til the fat lady sings....

Fox I remember the HITW (which is still there I think) and the grotty place above the concourse. Always good whilst waiting for late trains back to guildfrod. No chance of a sneaky beer on the way home now as I have to be at nursery for 6 and before that is too early even for me.

Lots of nice food and drink here. Lots of walking too. I have tried to be happy but DD1 is being stressful and I am going back to work tomorrow so have had a few tears. I am sure it'll be fine but I just love being with the kids so much that I can't bear someone else having them 2 days a week. Still needs must eh? I am very lucky to be part time.

I am descending into self pity now so will go. Hello to everyone else, hope you have all had a good weekend and hope everyone has a good week next week. Only 4 weeks til Christmas - where is the time going?

WideWebWitch · 25/11/2007 20:42

Good luck for tomorrow dollypops out. I hope it's nicer than you expected

DofN, you do seem to have loads of energy, very impressive, sorry to hear of insommia, must be horrible.

I've had a lovely day, late start, long bath with a magazine, cooked cottage pie for later in the week, made fairy cakes to freeze for dd to take to nursery on her birthday, did lots of tedious filing and shredding and, joy, managed to get our old cleaner to come here on Friday in advance of dd's party on Saturday to clean. I've asked her to do as lng as it takes so probably 5 or 6 hours, given that we haven't had a cleaner for a month but wow, that'll be nice to come home to on Friday night. Plus I bought all dd's presents and pary bag stuff months ago so there isn't that much to do, other than an online party food shop and some crafty stuff for the guests to do. I'm thinking making crowns as suggested by TS I think on another thread and pin the wand on the fairy and princess colouring in and then tea, cake and some dancing. It's only 2 hours so fingers crossed that'll do it.

I also cooked a roast and omg, the rare roast beef was heavenly. Very fattening mind you and I ate LOADS of it but lots of veg too and only, get this, 1 SMALL glass of red wine with it. I can do it on a Sunday lunchtime for some reason. So high on happiness and relaxation and another week beckons.

Christmas is frighteningly close isn't it? A month in fact! But hey, I get 10 days off so HURRAH

Have a good week everyone. I should start a new thread shouldn't I?

prufrock · 26/11/2007 00:05

haven't read all, will do tomorrow. I survived a weekend with my mother. (And if you do read this, it's your own fault if you see stuff you don't like) And because I didn't want to have an argument with her, i didn't drink at all. So apart from one beer on thursday (went out for a burger before a comedy show) I haven't drunk any alcohol all week. And I feel rather good. And I survived a weekend with my mum! And because I wasn't reacting to anything she said I noticed anew just how often she tries to belittle me. But it's not working anymore. Every time she said "Oh come on can't you take a joke" I just made a non-commital sound and changed the subject, and I feel so proud of myslef. I managed to not even let it all kick off when she was falling over drunk having had 2/3 bottle whisky. Onwards and upwards

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 26/11/2007 09:45

Prufrock - bloody marvellous, well done you. I'll even let you off for the burger!

Hi all

Good luck today dolly, it's so hard going back to work, I wish no-one who didn't really want to had to, IYSWIM

What a lovely weekend batters perfect light for a trip to the sea, glad dd was on such great form

Am feeling much more energetic and keen to eat well and drink well this week so onward and upward for me too

Fox, my after work dive of choice was a noisome little basement in Milk Street, called, inevitably, the Udder Place. From there dh and I would usually stagger off to stuff our faces at Jimmys and then catch a film. God I miss all that so much sometimes it hurts

Prufrock, well done from me too. Not Playing Your Mother's Game is extremely hard to sustain. Mine can press my buttons in about three minutes

puddle · 26/11/2007 11:10

Morning all

Still have cold, still feeling quite rough. It's moved into sinuses and ears, damn it.

Am OFF the detox - hurrah! Mananged four weeks and v proud of myself. Have discovered I can cope perfectly well without wheat and dairy so will try and cut back on normal consumption. But celebrated with some wine on Saturday when friends came round to dinner, plus dauphinoise potatoes - yum. And DH made me a mean hot toddy last night,,,,but that was Medicinal. Back on the wagon today for the week.

Am just about to go and cook Motherinferior's Soup Of Virtue for lunch.

Dolly I sympathise with the work - I am about to go back after a few months at home and ds (who is 7) has really strong opinios about in (along the lines of "WHY do you have to work, XX's mum picks him up every day, I hate it when you're not here ). We have potential mother's help coming to meet the kids today and he has already decided he isn't going to like her. So any tips on dealing with that one gratefully received. DD on the other hand is determined to love her ("is she pretty mummy, does she do making?)

Glad you're feeling better Marina

WWW your dds party sounds like my dd's kind of thing. We did a great princess hat making activity - cardboard cones, with lots of crepe paper streamers and jewels to stick 0n - went down extremely well.

DollyPopsOut · 26/11/2007 19:48

I survuved! And it wasn't too bad. Am absolutely EXHAUSTED now though. DD1 was very confused as I put on smart clothes and left at 6,45 this morning. She also couldn't understand why DD2 was at nursery too. Never mind she'll get the hang of it.

Puddle, it's so hard leaving them isn't it, esp when they can tell you they would rather you didn't. I suppose with the mother's help you just have to decide if she's right for you and set a relatively long probation period. If she's any cop then she should have a strategy for dealing with a recalcitrant 7 year old. Where did you find her?

Well done prufrock - sounds like you had an iron will in the face of deep temptation. I wish my resolve were as firm.

How was the commute today WWW?

Very envious of your idyllic weekend batters. Where near the sea were you?

Hello to everyone else. Hope your weeks have got off to a good start.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 26/11/2007 20:14

batters weekend!

puddle - my sympathy. marina - glad you're feeling better.

Dolly - so pleased it went OK. I'm sure the girls will soon settle to the new routine - children usually do.

I had a cracking morning. Didn't go running but bought tons of animal feed, a fair amount of Christmas shopping, did the banking, got petrol, went to the bakery and was still on time to collect DD2 from pre-school.

I've eaten bowl of DCs 'hoops' cereal, cheese croissant, orange, eccles cake, a vast steak, chips, peas & sweetcorn and mushrooms followed by Cornish Yarg cheese - which I know I will pick at for the rest of the evening as it's so lovely and I haven't bought any for months. Lots of orange squash.

And sorry to share but I'm quite delighted by it, I've had 3 enormous poos today after a er, barren weekend and I feel SO MUCH BETTER!!!!

WideWebWitch · 26/11/2007 20:22

Dollypops, well done, well done. It is tough the first day. 6.45am is an early start, have you a long commute too? Mine was fine, I am becoming quite philosophical about it, tube was stuck on the platform for ages and I just blithely got the timetable out, decided to think positive and used the time to visit the loos in the first class lounge and to hand in a voucher from The Times (free on the train, I don't buy it!) to WHSmith, who handed over a childrens book about Egyptians. So there you go.

Puddle, oh sympathies. Ds is 10 and I KNOW he doesn't like me not being able to drop him off or pick him up. I also know he doesn't like after school club and lots of his friends have parents who collect them so I think he's envious of that too. I don't know what to suggest other than maybe suggesting a horrible alternative but that's not terribly constructive. Ahh at your dd, she sounds so sweet. I have had fun making a list on the rain of food for dd's party, ideally pink - so far have prawns and pink (marie rose) sauce and marshmallows and other little food like quails eggs and smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwiches cut into heart shapes, oh I am enjoying indulging my inner girliness! It's not on display often.

Anyway, said girl was asleep when I left this morning AND when I got home tonight so I haven't seen her at all today. The air was blue as I thought about the woman who was the cause of my resignation - she leaves bang on 5 and gets home at 20 past, to HER child, meanwhile... whinge whinge. Anyway, anyway, no point moaning. I could have stayed and worked for her. Not. My choice so I should shut up about it really, thanks for letting me moan though.

Marina, oh, do you and your dh never get to do that? IIRC you don't have anyone who can have your 2 so you can get away do you? Could you plan a sitter and do it one night? I'm glad you're feeling a bit better.

Batters, that sounds like a wonderful weekend, wow. I miss the sea, we're soooo far away from it. Well done on all that walking and well done for your beautifully behaved dd too.

Prufrock, a medal for you my love for not rising to it but also for quietly keeping note of it, well done and good for you. Alcohol is not always the answer, I realise this more the older and wiser I get. Not that I always practice it mind you but anyway. Good for you, really well done.

Right, will post this and then do my daily list!

DofN and lol at the poos, thanks for sharing!

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 26/11/2007 20:27

So

100g granola (imagine your surprise!)
apple
rare roast beef and horseradish sandwich
packet of Wotsits
cottage pie, big portion. Plenty of olive oil in it but also lots of carrots, red pepper, tomatoes, tomato puree, onions, garlic.

It was great to come in and just heat it, must keep to that cooking at the weekend business

8,000 steps
plenty water
no sunscreen but barely outdoors
no booze
and went to bed FAR too late at 11.15 last night so will be in bed by 10 tonight.

sorry I haven't started another thread, shall we stay here for this week? I thought about it as I was about ot leave at 6.24am and then I thought, no, I must use the time to renew my ticket instead...

Good evening everyone.
Thanks for your kind words.

WWW, you sound like you're getting to grips with the commute etc.

Glad you're feeling better Marina.

Well done for surviving the weekend Prufrock.

Good to hear your day went well Dolly.

Thanks for sharing Duchess, lol.

And I think I've lost a 1lb.

Sunscreen - yes.
No booze
45 mins on the bike.
Lots of water/weak tea.
Apply body cream as often as possible - no.
Use hand cream/foot cream too - yes.
Go to bed early - I went before midnight (had to finish something off) but then DH woke me when he came in at 2ish - I'd locked him out, oops - and I couldn't get back to sleep.
Eat healthily - ish. plenty of fruit and some salad leaves.

Be Happy - just glad to have got through the day without dropping off to sleep, lol.

puddle · 26/11/2007 20:53

Mother's help didn't come! After we had got ourselves all ready and jollied ds out of foul mood she was delayed by a traffic accident so have had to reschedule - ds then chirp up "oh, I really wanted her to come"

Found her on gumtree Dolly. At the moment she looks like the answer to all my prayers but must wait and see. It is HARD though when they are older and have opinions. HAve just had a lovely cuddle in bed with my boy though and he told me all abut his day and said 'we can still do this when you're back at work'

Here's my list of food for today, to keep www's company

Porridge, sliced banana, goats milk yogurt, blueberries
Lentil and spinach soup
Apple, macadamia nuts and dried cranberries
Roasted veg pie and peas
Am about to go and make myself another hot toddy.

Can I recommend the new neutrogena handcream which is called something like 'quickly absorbed' or something - it's lighter than the original (which is great but I can only put on before bed as so heavy) - this is really light and good for use in the day.

Also got some body shop cocoa body butter whch is Fab-u-lous (as Craig would say on strictly. So am well buffed!

bamamama · 27/11/2007 01:44

Morning all, hope everyone is enjoying the count down to Christmas. I just can't get my head around tinsel and garden furniture in the same display.
Batters - you're weekend by the sea made me homesick! We usually live by the sea and I really miss it. I tried explaning to some aussies that true sea living involved a big coat and a lean into the wind but they weren't having it. One even said they didn't think Britain had any beaches [indignant glare emotion]. Anyway, batters weekend by the sea and the duchess's open fires (although not her bowel movements) are making me a bit misty eyed about home. ah well, onwards and upwards!
Bootcamping going ok although hindered slightly by the fact I've started baking bread so it's a bit of a toast fest.
www - enjoy indulging you're inner glittery princess! Just don't take it to work with you.
marina - glad you're feeling better.
pru - well done for dealing with your mother in such a mature way. I suspect I would have got drunk and snippy. (btw, why do mothers do this? didn't they vow to not turn into thier own mothers??)
Dolly - glad you survived, now lay off the sherry 'til the weekend!

I have not been bootcamping lately. No gym, no water drinking. Am well off the rails.

I seem to be going through a period of apathy - too complacent now that I've lost a few pound.
