Anyone else's Summer wardrobe/clothes rubbish?

Teddy1970 · 30/05/2021 19:28

Or is it just me? My Winter wardrobe is great, no shortage of thick jumpers and boots, gorgeous coats etc, but Summer? Rubbish! I have a pair of white trousers and some t shirts but that's it, I don't feel comfortable in skirts or dresses...anyone else? What do I need to look stylish in the Summer?

No. I have loads of summer clothes. I have dresses that I can't wait to wear, a couple of pairs of shorts, some new linen trousers I haven't worn yet, loads of strappy tops and a a couple of summer skirts.

Why don't you like dresses or skirts?

HopeClearwater · 30/05/2021 19:36

Why don't you like dresses or skirts

Speaking for myself, chub rub. And no pockets.

Teddy1970 · 30/05/2021 19:38

I live in jeans and I'm slightly overweight so feel a bit self conscious, daft I know because I know I'd be far more comfy in lighter stuff! It doesn't help that I actually love the Winter.

I'm the opposite; great summer wardrobe, shite winter wardrobe. I prioritise warmth in the winter, which means I don't pay too much attention to style. I'm all wool jumpers and jeans with coats and boots!

My summer wardrobe has many dresses, shorts and t-shirts with lightweight jackets. Also some light jeans. Sandals, heels and flats footwear. I love it! Sadly this year, I've been in winter gear till now! I'll be back in it in October.

If I had the choice I'd have a better winter wardrobe tbh!

Teddy1970 · 30/05/2021 19:47

I don't wear shorts except by the pool or at the beach, no way would I wear them to the shops!

OP posts:
Teddy1970 · 30/05/2021 19:50

I feel that Winter clothes hide a multitude of sins but Summer draws attention to the bits I don't want on show!

greyinganddecaying · 30/05/2021 19:53

I agree!

I stick to lightweight wide leg trousers/palazzo pants, nice sandals, fitted tops/tshirts

If you can find trousers with pockets, then even better

Standrewsschool · 30/05/2021 19:58

Don’t know what shape you are, but I’m a pear shape and love a maxi dress. I can dress it up or wear it casually. It’s so easier to wear.

Teddy1970 · 30/05/2021 21:27

Maxi dresses might be the way forward..thank you everyone!

Yes, I've got trousers like that, I wore them to death last Summer.

I’m the same

But self conscious in summer clothes as I’d rather my arms and chest covered

Since I’ve started running my legs seem a bit too muscly and I am now self conscious of them being too chunky in dresses or skirts too

I need to find a maxi dress that’s suitable for a short person

I’m 12/14 and 5ft4... can anyone help?
Sorry for hijack!

May I recommend Popsy to you. All of their dresses have pockets. They also sell anti chaffing shorts.
CurbsideProphet · 30/05/2021 21:32

I'm the same. I really struggle with what to wear when it's over 20C. Jeans are too hot, linen creases, and I'm 5ft so wide leg / palazzo pants swamp me.

RampantIvy · 30/05/2021 21:36

I find jeans uncomfortable in hot weather. I love maxi dresses.

Hummingbirdblue · 30/05/2021 21:37

This thread is quite sad actually. So many women out there are uncomfortable all summer long because they are ashamed of their bodies.

I love my summer wardrobe. I like dresses. I do wear chub rub shorts underneath and I also like sheer tights to avoid some shoes rubbing. Otherwise, I like knee length shorts with a t-shirt.

Lots of places have culottes this year rather than palazzo trousers. Next do stay loyal to their linen trousers as well.

I’m wearing jeans and men’s Hawaiian shirts love the colours they are baggy and comfortable. Me I don’t care. Loud and proud this summer but of fun.

Amdone123 · 30/05/2021 21:44

I hate winter so have very few clothes for it. I refuse to spend lots of money on clothes I hate ; jeans, jumpers, tights !
Summer I love. I am happy wearing very little. I'm overweight but quite toned and am very body confident. I'm 54, love playsuits and vintage type dresses. Hate shorts, not because I hate my legs ( my best feature), but because I hate having to find clothes that match. I'm happy in flip flops, nice sandals and converse.

Do you have any recommendations of places to get dresses? I don’t even know where to look anymore!

When I was younger I’d buy lovely patterned dresses from high street shops but none of them were cotton abs I can’t be dealing with polyester fabrics in summer now

Ikeameatballs · 30/05/2021 21:46

I struggle in Summer because I’m always cold, so someone else’s shorts and tee day would jeans and a long sleeved top for me meaning that I rarely look “Summery” and struggle to find new clothes that I like and will actually wear!

dudsville · 30/05/2021 22:07

That used to be me, but I shopped through lockdown and now have a fabulous choice of dresses and skirts and sandals as it was a main choice of clothing for video calls and being comfortable at home. Mine all have pockets and they are midi length so capri length tights stop the thigh rub!

I agree. There are summer clothes for every shape and size. I don't think that summer clothes are less flattering than winter clothes regardless of what size you are. I think many people make the mistake of thinking that all summer clothes have to be skimpy.

I'm only slightly taller than you and love that all the midi dresses are in fashion: they are all basically maxi dresses on me (which is more flattering for me). They usually come down to just above my ankle, although the shorter midi length is more lower-calf length.
Teddy1970 · 30/05/2021 22:40

Some great recommendations on here tonight, thanks eeryone, I think I need to embrace Summer clothes more and stop hiding in jeans.
