Sorry if there’s already a thread, couldn’t see one.

Just seen a pic of the happy couple here

All other issues aside, I love her style! I though she’d become a bit less boho and casual in recent months but the dress is a return to form :o

As for him, I think we can conclude from his wedding look that his hair physically cannot be brushed.
@Serpenta "serfs" sniggering at someone's dress is not in the spirit of style and beauty. As has been discussed at length in recent threads. But if you want to drag everyone down, go for it.
Thanks.

midsomermurderess · 01/06/2021 16:15

It has become very draggy, hasn't it. And comments line she is very plain, with an over bite etc. Come on, that is entirely unnecessary.

Lookingforacleaner · 01/06/2021 16:41

@Plumbuddle

Yes, in terms of tailoring they both look equally as if they had been dragged through a hedge backwards only with the flora ending up on her head and the fauna on his. Neither of them seem to have any visual flair, regardless of how much they have tried to spend on acquiring it. But what attracts me about her as a bride in the photo is the way she is as tall as him, she leans into him, she takes hold of him almost commandingly and there is that frank and intimate but non-seductive gaze right into his eyes. I think that behind the scenes, she has disarmed him in some way and taken the offensive within this marriage. I suspect she has a different approach to him from any woman he has known and he is slightly floored. There is something genuinely free about her spirit, or so her presence comes over in this picture. Which is why it is drawing reactions even despite the ill fittingness of all their clothing and of course the beauty and the beast contrast in their ages.
That’s what struck me too. It’s interesting from a psychological point of view. She won’t put up with being cheated on, I’m sure.
Plumbuddle · 01/06/2021 16:54

And for me, it is even the case with her relationship to her clothes. Someone has described her as lamb dressed up as mutton in her other outfits. And there is a lot of comment here about the bridal gown being kind of of thrown on or draped on her like curtains. But she carries all this off with aplomb IMO (pardon the pun). She just bears herself so well almost despite her wardrobe. This is why this wedding gear looks so great, I really do think that despite hating Boris myself, she has got herself and her child(ren) a really lovely wedding shot to mark the occasion. And I think the pics of Wilf are the same. Someone remarked about how it was twee and coy to have him pictured from behind, but that view of him amongst bluebells in a spring wood was just heart melting. I love the pics we have seen of her cuddling him as a mum. You cannot doubt she feels the greatest love for him.

The same happens with Melania Trump and the Duchess of Cambridge. Unnecessary digs and slights. I don't particularly like Carrie but to make hideous comments about a bride because you hate her husband is nasty. I thought she looked lovely.
Plumbuddle · 01/06/2021 17:16

Yup. She comes over in the pic as non vain, non pretentious and just direct and frank. There is something so unaffected about her as a woman that no matter what bitching goes on, it looks as if it cannot get to her. She is not demanding the camera adore her -- the camera helps her go out toward others.
Great pic.

midsomermurderess · 01/06/2021 20:06

Plum,, I,thought she looked lovely. It comes down to personal taste. So, the 1970s style doesn't tick every ones' boxes now. I wore those Laura Ashley-style dresses when I was 13 or so. I even have photos of me then. I looked quite cute, although wouldn't wear that style now. But to be so unkind and sneery. It makes me feel a bit sad and tired.

Plumbuddle · 01/06/2021 20:38

It's a combo of posters being unable to put aside their political views (which I quite get, I have never gone on this part of mumsnet before) and people judging her against impossible internal standards of their own. She never put herself about as a supermodel or a fashionista she is a political intellectual of quite some stature who just so happens to be really quite attractive physically. I don't get why this upsets women or why they have to tear that down. I accept and sympathise with all the political commentary but not the personal here other than that the dress/headdress is not what the poster would think was fashionable or well fitting. When it moved on to she is unattractive, that seemed strange. Boris is lucky to have her, I hope for his sake he does not trample on his good luck.

Tehmina23 · 01/06/2021 21:10

I like her dress, it's very pretty & I like her hair.

I dislike her husband intensely also if I were her I'd be disappointed that he made no effort with his appearance..

The dress might have cost £45 per day to hire, but the minimum hire period at the place @ZaraW linked above is 4 days. So, at that rate the cost would be £180.

Not thousands, though.

My wedding dress cost a lot more than £180 over 20 years ago. Renting is genius, what a great way to get an amazing frock without spending a fortune.

I didn’t like the head band, it looked too heavy and clumsy to me and it was much too low over her eyes but the dress was lovely. Thank God the ubiquitous strapless number has finally bitten the dust.

RedRiverShore · 02/06/2021 08:56

If I had had a wedding dress I would have hired one (I didn't, I got married in a normal smart dress) as wedding dresses usually end up taking up vast amount of space in wardrobes or resigned to the loft. I guess the 4 days is to get a reasonable amount from the low hire price, no-one is going to rush out to collect and rush back with it on their wedding day anyway. There is great choice and the one she wore was good value at £180 and looked lovely.

Plumbuddle · 02/06/2021 10:17

I read yesterday that she hires all her posh frocks fir functions in this way out of eco commitment. Good for her, so different from the typical First Lady syndrome of owning loads of expensive crap.

Serpenta · 02/06/2021 10:22

Are people really trying to turn her into a 'First Lady'? Oh dear.

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 03/06/2021 11:38

The Queen is Britain's First Lady.
She is also very thrifty. Although she rarely wears the same outfit twice, she keeps everything and has her dresser remodel things and reuse fabrics. All of her tiaras come apart and can be worn as other pieces of jewellery as well.

Oh wow that's amazing about the queen. I saw a really interesting piece in the papers some time ago about the meaning of her jewellery and how some of it was convertible. I love the way it is loaned out to other family members too.
Lookingoutside · 03/06/2021 13:05

Putting aside my political views.

I absolutely love that dress. Beautiful!!!

DontLookEthel · 03/06/2021 15:19

They look like they both decided to wear what they felt happiest in and not give a shit about the inevitable naysayers.
Good for them, I wish I had that confidence.

Nicolastuffedone · 03/06/2021 19:52

I thought she was lovely...very boho. I wish them well.

Oh come on! We are supposed to believe that old chestnut about the Queen being thrifty. She loved the Royal Train that was scrapped because of the huge cost of each journey. She wanted a replacement for the Royal Yacht, and Boris Johnson has commissioned one. She is happy for large amounts of taxpayers money to be spent on her and her family. But pretends to be thrifty so as not to annoy the public.

And yes she wears clothes twice. What does remodel her clothes actually mean?
