Frock crisis - help!

Florabritannica · 18/05/2021 21:59

I have been invited to Glyndebourne - yay! - but have no idea what to wear - boo! I am early 50s, size 16, comedy bust, 5 foot 4. As against this, I’m happy to pay what it takes to find a frock that I don’t feel like the Incredible Hulk in. Please help me!

Depends on your preferred colours and whether you like prints, but the hush Kensington is meant to be good for bigger boobs and is flattering and a bit dressy. They have other colours too. (and there will be more on eBay) or try Other stories, Rixo or a boutique like Iris Fashion or Biscuit.

Florabritannica · 18/05/2021 22:15

That hush dress is gorgeous and I fear I may have just bought it, but for Glyndebourne I think I want something a bit more wow. Looked at Rico but couldn’t find anything that didn’t have a deep v or a high neck, both of which are problematic on the nork front.

Hi OP, how about something like this?

John Lewis has some lovely dresses at the moment.

Florabritannica · 18/05/2021 22:49

That is very pretty! Not sure it’s my colour, but certainly in the frame - should try it on

What is a comedy bust?

Does it giggle when you jiggle?

Cowbells · 18/05/2021 22:56

This ? It's stunning enough for evening. Sleeves are good if it gets chilly but you could wear it during the day too.

Cowbells · 18/05/2021 23:02

Or this ?

Florabritannica · 18/05/2021 23:38

Those are lovely - especially the first. Never heard of the brand before, so v grateful!

Florabritannica · 18/05/2021 23:40

@cowbells - animal print feels a bit urban for Glyndebourne and the second one would have sequins dancing over my comedy nipples.

TaraR2020 · 19/05/2021 00:00

Have you tried coast?

Florabritannica · 19/05/2021 00:10

Not clothes to wear near a naked flame

@Florabritannica

Not clothes to wear near a naked flame
You mean coast clothes?

Really?

NellietheNumpty · 19/05/2021 06:43

Have you seen this recent thread?
Fellow big breasted women, I need YOUR help! Let's find flattering Summer styles.
There were lots of suggestions there.

NellietheNumpty · 19/05/2021 06:44

The anthropology dress was stunning.

Cowbells · 19/05/2021 07:37

@NellietheNumpty - it is, isn't it?

permaconfused · 19/05/2021 07:45

Your posts have made me chuckle. You sound like the kind of person I would really like, with your personality - I reckon you dress beautifully and always look fab....

Have fun!

UnreasonablyPissedOff · 19/05/2021 07:48

That Anthropologie dress is amazing! I'm very tempted though I have nowhere to wear such a beautiful thing!

Squiz81 · 19/05/2021 08:13

There’s also this on Anthropologie if you like a bold print?

I have no boobs, so I have really no clue how to accommodate them. Are wrap style dresses better?

Florabritannica · 19/05/2021 08:14

@NellietheNumpty - I have been watching that thread but haven’t seen anything in quite the category of glam I’m after.
@Cowbells - gorgeous Anthro dress but I happen to know my hostess is wearing something similar!

@Florabritannica
This I am wearing is by a company Ooh Betty. They sell off the peg and made to measure.

@TaraR2020 - I guess the Coast dresses are a bit bridesmaidy and look as though they’re mostly polyester.
@permaconfused - you are very kind!!

OP :o glad you got a dress out of my suggestion!
What about Toast (lots of dresses that make you look like a medieval fisherman but the occasional stunner) of Ghost?
