Am 59.

Have longish hair. Recently with layer at front. Feel like it’s doing nothing for me, most days.

Any ideas for a change?

You look fantastic! The long hair makes you look much younger. Get a long sweepy fringe, curtain bangs.
@dgirluk yes! Slap head. That’s me most of the time unless I make a point of using a bit of mousse/hairspray. Can you do a pic?

@Amdone123...you’re welcome 😊
Your hair looks fab in your latest pic, and if mine looked like that I’d leave it !

I did my best with photos, but I haven’t done a good job with my hair this am. But one shows my slap head look, and the white hair makes me look bald because you can’t even see the hair on webex/zoom. (I’m 45). Then the others I’ve tried to show the “grown out fringe”. It usually looks better but I was a bit rushed this am !

You look bloody gorgeous with the long hair, if I saw you in the supermarket I’d have hair envy.

Maybe just have it a bit blunter?. If you’ve got an aveda salon nearby ask for product advice. Their stuffs ruinously expensive but annoyingly effective so I have to keep buying it.

HeraInTheHereAndNow · 20/05/2021 17:52

@Fluffycloudland77, definitely will go blunter on the ends. It’ll make it look thicker.

@dgirluk... it’s a swine isn’t it, having a high forehead? I saw a woman I used to work with recently and she’d had a fringe cut in. It really suited her and she said “I have SUCH a high forehead... wish I’d done this years ago!” It was no where near as “slap” as mine 😂

In your case I would take a few inches off so it's still long but not "grown out". I might also try a side fringe.

Derailing slightly if I may, I have to say I'm incredibly tired of this "bobs are ageing" and "short hair is ageing". Ignoring the argument that ageing is a privilege that we don't all enjoy etc, the best haircut is a cut that suits you (as in "one").
I've had long hair a few times but it's never suited me. Shorter is much better on me now and always has been and perversely a good shorter cut does make me look younger: not because my wrinkles suddenly disappear - of course they don't - but because it shows I'm paying attention to what else is out there.

@StCharlottei absolutely agree. I loved my short hair. I had a pixie in 2015 and it was so, so easy. Washed it each day. No faffing about. Then I fancied a bob and... just carried on from there.

Have been sorting out my mum’s place and going through old photo albums. Found a pic of me as a teenager with long hair. Never realised it was that long! DS thought it was hilarious as apparently, my forehead makes up half of my face 😂
