Am 59.

Have longish hair. Recently with layer at front. Feel like it’s doing nothing for me, most days.

Any ideas for a change?

Do you think no-one will recognise that's it you with the line through your eyes? Grin
Your hair looks fab long. I love the colour

Gr4c3liz · 17/05/2021 19:41

I really love your hair! Long is great on you Star a fringe could be worth a try, although I personally think there’s nothing wrong with your hair atm!

JinglingHellsBells · 17/05/2021 19:45

You've been here before Grin
I recognise you! (The photos)

IMO you could do with a good 6 inches off and a long, wispy fringe.

I don't think that length does anything for you. Beyond a certain length, longer hair is a bit 'useless' and can look a bit like Alice in Wonderland.

honeybuns007 · 17/05/2021 19:46

@HeraInTheHereAndNow

Yes, I do have a high forehead! Have been trying to explain this because as I get older, it just seems to be a half of my sodding face! At 35/45 even 50+, it was Ok but now, I feel I look bald when my hairs up and just soooo OLD!

A fringe then. If it’s sweeping... won’t I be tucking it behind my ear the whole time so effectively, the same problem? What about a bob? “Lift” my face, as it were?

Try minoxidil. It grew my hairline back!

You look amazing for your age!

JinglingHellsBells · 17/05/2021 19:53

The people saying 'no bob'.

You can have a bob that is down beyond your shoulders, but not as long as your hair is now, which is beyond back bra strap.

Bobs now can be textured and 'undercut' to give bounce and volume- they aren't just all one length like the 1970s.

Personally, I think you could cut it so that longest length was halfway up your scarf- the wispy bits in the 1st photo that are midway, about 6 inches down from your scarf.

It would still be way past your shoulders and have some shape, rather than being straight and with no style.

HeraInTheHereAndNow · 17/05/2021 20:23

@JinglingHellsBells... yep, it’s a long running dilemma. Which is why I disguised myself!

Mumsnet has seen me through shirt, bob, long one length, back to bob then short, then ... now 😂

🤔 Minoxidil

HeraInTheHereAndNow · 17/05/2021 20:28

And... 6 inches off... it’s back to jaw length 🤷🏻‍♀️

passmethemilk · 17/05/2021 20:37

I still like it in the new angled picture! I don't think you need to change it

Twistered · 17/05/2021 20:40

Your hair is gorgeous long. Somehow you look much younger now than in the pics with your hair shorter!

A bit of a cut and a side fringe is the most I'd be advising

Pinkywoo · 17/05/2021 20:45

Something like this would suit you, keeping the length but disguising your forehead (I have a fringe for the same reason!).

Unrelated and no suggestions sorry but your skin is amazing

JinglingHellsBells · 17/05/2021 22:04

@HeraInTheHereAndNow

And... 6 inches off... it’s back to jaw length 🤷🏻‍♀️
What????

In the first pic, it looks, the way it's draped over one shoulder, as if you have at least 12 inches or more from your jawline.

6 inches would take it to the wispy bit that's kind of sticking out to the left, halfway between your chin and the ends.

JinglingHellsBells · 17/05/2021 22:07

Measure 6 inches :)

From where your scarf touches the centre of your chin to the ends of your hair across your bust, looks at least 12 inches or more. It's really long.

Taking off 6 inches it would still be 6 inches below your jaw.

HeraInTheHereAndNow · 17/05/2021 22:42

Ahh, have read about Minoxidil. It’s not that my hairline is receding and forehead getting longer... it’s ALWAYS been that way! 😂

And yes, @JinglingHellsBells.. it’s long isn’t it? I think it’s spent so long under a hat, rarely worn down, that I still think of it as shoulder length.

Just feeling old to have longer hair, I think.

blisstwins · 18/05/2021 03:07

I would take off 3-4 inches (but still long for sure) and have some layers, but no fringe. Your hairline and forehead are fine and the fringe will get annoying.

Bagelsandbrie · 18/05/2021 06:58

I would keep the length but I would lighten it - you’d look great with some pure white highlights.

JinglingHellsBells · 18/05/2021 12:59

I don't think it's always just an 'age' thing @HeraInTheHereAndNow but it's more about it not doing 'anything' for you. When hair gets beyond a certain length, it's just 'hair' and more isn't always better (IMO). :) You can still keep it long, but maybe just beyond your shoulders, rather than halfway down your back?
Long hair needs a huge amount of work to always look glossy and full and bouncy (think Duchess of Cambridge) and most of us don't have that time or dedication (or a hairdresser on standby)

What do your friends in real life say? They know you and your lifestyle better than anyone here.

lindyloo57 · 18/05/2021 15:09

Keep the long hair , just have a few inches off, I'm 60 have hair style like the one peakypolly posted.

5128gap · 18/05/2021 16:21

Your hair is lovely and looks much better long. I don't mean this rudely, but short, it's generic middle aged hair, whereas long, its eye catching and youthful. You look very young facially and can carry off very long hair. I love the style posted by Pinkywoo though, but with your existing length intact.

HeraInTheHereAndNow · 18/05/2021 16:33

@JinglingHellsBells... a friend who’s known me since I was 16 said it looks dark at the moment. I was blonder when younger and then did very light blonde highlights for years. She suggested a soft fringe, not to cover the wrinkles/long forehead just because she remembers me years ago with a fringe and said it suited me. My whole face shape’s changed a bit since then though! 😂

Then, there’s people who just say “have a bob, I liked you with a bob” 🤷🏻‍♀️

And... I’m a bit embarrassed that I’m giving so much thought to something so trivial, what with everything that’s going on in the world.

HeraInTheHereAndNow · 18/05/2021 16:34

Yes... DO love a fringe if it’s a proper one and not a “nearly fringe”.

How about a curtain fringe? I think they are flattering and low maintenance.
